Chapter 1258: What Now?!

Mateo knew that most people, when they thought of him, would only think of him as a monster.

And perhaps, that part was true. But that was only because they had never seen true monsters at work.

As Mateo hovered in the air, he surveyed all of the damage done by the dragons in the wake of their attack.

The problem was that there was no damage. There was nothing. It didn’t even look like a city had once stood here anymore.

All that remained was water. Nearly as far as the eye could see.

The ocean was almost completely still and tranquil. Not a ripple disturbed the surface, not a wave rushed onto the shore. Sea-life had not even been introduced yet.

It took mere minutes to transform the world into this. As Tatiana’s waters flooded the world, they washed away the unpleasantness of all that had been here before.

The waters eroded sand, concrete, dirt, and debris for over two miles underground, and spanned enough land to qualify as a fifth ocean basin.

It would be quite a quiet, peaceful scene. That is, if it were not for the brooding of the coiling loong overhead.

Abaddon was still giving off a rather negative aura, and Mateo was trying to give him ample time to calm down before he talked.

As such, Mateo turned his gaze downward to check on the progress of the others.

His vision cut deeply, far beyond the surface of the water. All the way to the bottom of the seafloor.

Tatiana was constructing an underwater city atop the dust of what once was. With Valerie’s assistance, they were creating a genuine spectacle.

It was something pulled directly from the pages of science fiction. Beautiful buildings that were designed for openness as well as comfort. It encouraged community. Togetherness.

With so few of them in number, having them be together as much as possible, with an abundance of resources at their disposal, would hopefully foster a society that would fight for each other to prevent further tragedy.

Mateo glanced overhead.

Out of the blue, a white snake with beautiful golden horns flew overhead and dove into the water to join the rest of the girls.

’I suppose they’re going to have their own magic as well... What a lucky people they are.’

Mateo didn’t know if a race had been this loved by a god since the birth of humanity.

"Should I ask what you told my husband to make him unleash a huge army of custom-made horrors into the world?"

Mateo looked over his shoulder and found Sif approaching while carrying Seras around her waist like a baby panda. They were almost cute if you didn’t notice the giant iceberg containing hundreds of monsters that they were walking away from.

"What are you going to do with them?" Mateo nodded toward the captives.

Sif shrugged casually. "Analyze them on a case-by-case basis and then decide on a sentence from there... There were a few who were just eating to survive, but others seemed to be enjoying different... privileges. They’ll be dealt with appropriately."

Mateo almost pitied the souls. Sif’s frosty disposition toward outsiders was well known. And if Laialh decided to include herself in the judgment process, not even prayers would be enough to save them from what was to come.

"... What’s wrong with her?"

Seras let out a small whimper as she buried her face deeper into Sif’s neck.

"...My darling is... just a little bit upset that things didn’t go like she planned." Sif shrugged. "Your turn."

Mateo let out a deep exhale as he stuffed his hands back into his pockets. "That.... I’m actually not very sure myself. He peered into Radu’s mind and seemed to find something that was worth this level of retaliation."

A shadow passed overhead, and the group find a very large dragon breathing down on them. Abaddon’s reddish-purple eyes burned with resentment. When his voice came, it was gravelly and restrained. He was trying to prevent himself from having another episode.

"...It seems that while we were away, those I have spawned have forgotten my temper. I will take special care to remind them." 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢

Sif tilts her head. "Easy there, Mr. Destroyer. Why don’t you start by telling us-"

"BABEEEEEEEE!!!"

Seras flung herself onto the bridge of Abaddon’s nose and held on for dear life. She bawled her eyes out as she rubbed her nose on a patch of his scales.

"I-I-I-I didn’t get to do anythinggg!!! I was so excited, but all of these weak assholes might as well have been tissue paper!"

Seras lifted her head and revealed a stream of snot running down her nose. "A-Are they right?? Am I just a housewife now with her best days behind her?! Will I never again know the thrill of battle??"

Abaddon shrank into a much smaller appearance and held Seras like a princess. He blinked slowly as his rage slightly subsided.

"You’re being a bit overdramatic, dear... And who said your best days were behind you?"

"Satan and our fat-head son! (Apophis)" Seras wept.

Abaddon was glad his current form did not have a mouth, because he would be unable to suppress his smile if he were still in his human form. "Pay those fools no mind. You’re still an admirable warrior, you just have to find some enemies who are worth your ti-"

The dragons felt it before it happened. But they were still unprepared.

A furious shaking suddenly seized the world.

Abaddon instinctively held on to Seras with one arm and pulled Sif into the other. At the same time, he created a duplicate body to join Tatiana, Lailah, and Valerie underwater.

"My loves, look!"

Sif pointed up at the sky with a stunned expression.

Abaddon and Seras soon shared her looks of shock. Right before their very eyes, the planets hovering around Earth were being pulled in, and the sky was becoming impossibly bright.

Magic poured into the land in absurd quantities. So much so that the dragons reached the instant realization that the world was not yet done changing. But Abaddon had no clue what could have possibly been in store for them next.

Bashenga floated in his realm slightly, lying on his back as if he were sleeping.

His infant brother circled him overhead, paddling through the boundless black space and giggling as if he were having the time of his very short life.

Agheel burped and a small gout of fire spewed past his lips, sending him tumbling back onto his brother’s head.

"...Must you put your bottom on my forehead like this? It is very unbecoming of a prince."

Bashenga lifted his brother off his head as he opened one eye.

"Is it not time for you to go and rejoin our mothers yet? I can feel one of them lurking just outside the door now."

Miraculously, Izanami’s presence suddenly vanished.

Shaking his head, Bashenga closed his eyes once again was if he were going back to sleep.

Agheel crawled across his brother’s chest to reach his face. Using his tiny hands, he attempted to peel back one of his brother’s eyelids.

"I am now beginning to see why some species of animals eat their young. You all can be very infuriatin-"

Suddenly, Bashenga sat up, his eyes wide open and aglow with a disbelieving light. His breaths came in shaky intervals as he turned his head toward the door, and the world outside.

"...Gaia?"
