First Immortal of the Sword-Chapter 2022: Suppressing a Ghost God
Boom!
The clouds churned beneath the dome of heaven.
With the bony old man at its center, the sky filled with countless strange, blood-red talisman markings. The markings caught ablaze, then formed a divine ring behind him.
Wu Lingchong and the woman in the conical hat, Li Shuang, suddenly felt irrepressible horror. Goosebumps arose all over their skin.
There was no need to even question it. The bony old man had to be a powerful Ghost God!
He was even more terrifying than the leader of the evil spirit army, Yu Qian.
“‘Petty tricks?’” The bony old man laughed, stretched out his hand, and grabbed.
Clang!
The charcoal fire transformed into a putrid green bone saber and landed in the old man’s palm. The blade blazed with blue flames, while the hilt resembled a skeletal hand.
Bone saber in hand, the old man transformed, his imposing presence suddenly forceful and imposing. The divine ring formed of blood-red markings slowly revolved behind him, shattering the surrounding air into pieces.
This terrifying pressure made both Wu Lingchong and Li Shuang let out muffled grunts. Their souls and minds were under terrifying suppression.
But then, Su Yi waved his sleeves, instantly blocking the ferocious majesty emanating from the old man.
“Don’t tell me you disagree?” Su Yi asked flatly.
His calm composure made the gaunt old man narrow his eyes and sigh. “Throughout the ages, even the gods foolish enough to enter the City of the Lost have been unable to fend off its ancient curse, yet you, a paltry little Great Realm cultivator, don’t fear it in the slightest. It’s truly baffling.”
His eyes silently blazed with imposing divine radiance, and he stared intently at Su Yi. “Little fellow, might you tell me just which power of the Grand Dao you’ve mastered?”
Su Yi put his jug of wine away and said, “If you can survive against me, I wouldn’t mind chatting with you.”
The gaunt old man’s expression filled with dense murderous intent. He was obviously enraged.
But then, a low voice boomed through the air. “Papercrafter, Grandmother has commanded that if you cannot defeat him, I am to fight in your place.”
A figure appeared in the distant, fog-shrouded street accompanying this voice. He was a massive, hundred-foot man covered in thick white bone chains. His eyes shone like imposing golden lanterns.
A bronze staff rested on his shoulders. It was over one hundred feet long!
The ground shook as he approached, and the fog dissipated. His bone chains clattered as he moved, and a ferocious, baleful aura swept outward.
This was yet another Ghost God! And from the look of things, he was even stronger than the bony old man.
“Hmph! What need is there for your intervention?” The bony old man, the Papercrafter, glowered. “Open those dog eyes of yours and watch carefully—but get further away first!”
“Oh? You’d better not just be showing off,” the massive man said with a grin.
He stood in the distance, and indeed, he took no further action.
Wu Lingchong and Li Shuang felt their hearts sink. There was no doubt about it; the Ghost Gods of the City of the Lost had been tracing their movements this entire time. That was how two of them had appeared, one after another, to block their entrance to the Fog-Shrouded Street.
Su Yi, however, thought nothing of it. He just glanced at the enormous man and said, “I urge you two to attack together.”
The massive man froze, stunned, then burst into sputtering laughter. “Hear that, Papercrafter? This young man looks down on you! If you don’t hurry up and attack, I won’t hold back any longer!”
The bony old man’s expression was as dark as could be. He shook his blazing bone saber and suddenly vanished into thin air. A moment later, he reappeared above Su Yi’s head, saber swinging.
Crunch!
The air split and caught ablaze with a boom.
The saber was swathed in dazzling green flames, strange and terrifying to behold. A single slash made heaven and earth quiver, and the Grand Dao itself wailed.
Bang!!
Su Yi swung his palm, colliding with the saber qi. A current of destructive power swept outward like a hurricane.
The gaunt old man staggered on his feet.
Meanwhile, the ground exploded beneath Su Yi’s feet, and the saber strike forced him into the ground.
“Wowee, he actually managed to block the Papercrafter’s saber? No wonder he was so arrogant. He… really is perversely strong!” exclaimed the massive man watching from a distance.
He’d only just said this when the Papercrafter launched a follow-up attack. Streaks of dazzling saber qi fell like a pelting rain, each strike as quick as a beam of flowing light. It was as if the waters of heaven had burst through a dam, explosive and calamitous.
Green flames surged amidst the saber qi, and countless ghostly figures appeared. Some bared their fangs and waved their claws, while others roared. All of them were terrifying beyond measure.
The ground had already caved in beneath Su Yi’s feet, and the raging saber qi had torn the surrounding skies to pieces.
Su Yi, meanwhile, was repeatedly forced back!
The bony old man really was fierce. The power he controlled was strange, malevolent, and fierce. He was far more dangerous than a newly advanced god like Jiang Tai’e.
Wu Lingchong and Li Shuang had long since moved further away. It wasn’t that they were cowards, but that with their cultivations, the mere aftershocks of the battle were likely enough to scatter their souls!
When the two of them saw Su Yi pummeled and suppressed, their expressions shifted, and their hearts were instantly on tenterhooks.
Su Yi was up against just one of the Ghost Gods, but he was already suppressed. Meanwhile, another, even more terrifying Ghost God was watching the battle from not far away!
“Impressive! Impressive! Throughout the ages, what Great Realm expert has ever wielded such power? It’s simply… unreasonable!” The massive man clucked his tongue in amazement.
The Papercrafter wasn’t the strongest of the Ghost Gods, but here in the City of the Lost, he could unleash more than enough power to suppress and kill Lesser Gods.
Yet now, he was struggling to take a single Great Realm expert down. How could the massive man be anything but surprised?
“So, that’s it. That kid controls a mysterious power of the Grand Dao that can suppress the Curse of the Ancient Gods. That’s what lets him contend with the Papercrafter…” The massive man quickly picked up on a few hints, and he couldn’t help but be solemn. “No wonder even Grandmother was startled into action. That kid really is special!”
“Die!” The bony old man suddenly bellowed and swung his saber like mad. He’d attacked for a long time, but he’d yet to take down his opponent, and he was starting to get frantic. Now, he drew upon the full extent of his power, hoping to suppress and kill Su Yi in a single strike.
Boom!
Heaven and earth swayed as the sky was stained an unearthly shade of green.
When the bone saber descended, it brought with it a river of blue flame, enveloping the ground around Su Yi completely. The entire area exploded and caught ablaze.
Wu Lingchong and Li Shuang panicked. Don’t tell me that… Brother Su is going to lose?
Off in the distance, the massive man grumbled, “Is he dead? What a let-down. Doesn’t that mean I came all this way for nothing?”
The bony old man exhaled and said, “Qiu Man, you can head back and report to Grandmother. Tell her that the boy wasn’t as troublesome an opponent as she predicted and that she can relax—”
He’d only just said this when he visibly lost his composure, and his eyes almost popped out of their sockets. He couldn’t help but blurt, “How is this possible!?”
When the dust and smoke cleared in the distance, a tall, upright figure appeared out of nowhere.
It was Su Yi!
Boom!
Forceful sword intent seemingly unparalleled throughout the heavens appeared, sweeping away the green flames filling the sky. It was like a hurricane sweeping across the land, destroying everything in its wake, down to the last blade of grass.
Su Yi’s long hair fluttered around him, and reincarnation sword light flowed around his tall, upright frame. It was as if he stood over a dark, impenetrable abyss. His power and momentum were starkly different from before.
“This…” The massive man stared, his eyes wide.
Wu Lingchong and Li Shuang were so excited that they almost screamed. They’d almost thought that Su Yi had been defeated!
“I’ve roughly figured out the source of your power,” whispered Su Yi, his gaze inscrutable. “You’re just manipulating the Curse of the Ancient Gods placed on the City of the Lost. ‘Undying?’ ‘Indestructible?’ Nonsense! Seems to me that you’re just prisoners of the curse, trapped in the City of the Lost forever, unable to die no matter how much you long for it!”
He then took a step closer to the bony old man. “You ought to celebrate having met me. After all, only I can erase you from this world and grant you true release.”
Boom!
Before his voice had even finished echoing through the air, he leaped forward and attacked the bony old man, his sword force connecting heaven and earth.
The bony old man snorted coldly and swung his saber.
Su Yi raised his hand, grabbed the blazing bone saber, and twisted his wrist.
Crunch!!
The blazing bone saber snapped. The bony old man visibly freaked out. Su Yi suddenly seemed like a completely different person!
He was just about to flee when Su Yi seized him by the shoulder, picked him up, and flung him to the ground, hard.
Bang!
The ground split, and numerous tears appeared all over the old man’s body. He let out a muffled grunt and struggled with all his might.
But it was ultimately to no avail. Su Yi stepped on him, pinning him in place, then seized his arm and ripped it clean off.
This brutal, tyrannical scene stunned everyone present.
The bony old man cried out in terror, “Qiu Man, save me! Hurry!”
Boom!
The massive man in the distance now took action. He took a step forward and swung his hundred-foot bronze staff at Su Yi.
The force was so immense that it shattered the sky. Strange, baleful energy wrapped around the pole, and it seemed as if heaven and earth might well sink when his strike landed.
But then, Su Yi swung his sleeves.

Bang!!!
A muffled impact rang out as both the massive man and his bronze staff were forced back.
At the same time, Su Yi pressed down with his feet.
Crunch! Crack!
The bony old man broke into pieces, shattering like porcelain!
“You’re seeking death!” The enormous man took to the skies, both hands gripping his bronze staff. He attacked once more, as ferocious as a true primordial barbarian god.
When the staff fell, it exploded the skies beneath it. Everything quivered on all sides.
But before it landed, Su Yi condensed a hand seal and struck the air.
Bang!!!
The bronze staff shook violently, its mournful wails shaking the heavens. A moment later, the massive man was flung backward, his bronze staff almost flying from his grip.
All of it happened in a flash, so quick that it seemed unbelievable. Wu Lingchong and Li Shuang stood there, wide-eyed, tongue-tied, and rooted to the spot. He just single-handedly suppressed two Ghost Gods!?
Meanwhile, Su Yi swung his sleeves, and the now four-foot-tall little monkey appeared out of nowhere.
“Hey, you rascally monkey. What do you think of this food?” Su Yi proffered the arm he’d ripped off the old man to the monkey.
The monkey didn’t say anything. It just stared at the severed arm, its eyes shining with excitement, until suddenly, it opened its mouth.
Crunch!
The severed arm shattered into a bundle of baleful power, which the monkey sucked into its stomach.
Su Yi nodded to himself. It seems the little monkey is quite pleased with its meal.
