FLASH MARRIAGE; CHARMED BY THE RUTHLESS BILLIONAIRE CEO-Chapter 364: Every Man For Himself
Chapter 364: Every Man For Himself
Regina didn’t remember how she and her daughter managed their way home after receiving the beating of their entire life.
All she recalled after enduring twenty excruciating lashes on her back, was seeing blurry images of people, the sound of moving cars and different doors opening and closing before darkness took over.
When she opened her eyes again, she saw Agnes standing beside her bed, holding a warm towel in her hand and wearing a pitiful look on her face.
The choking smell of antiseptic and some menthol ointment filled her nostrils, making her scrunch her face a little.
However, this was nothing compared to the stinging pain radiating from her bare back. She reeled in anguish, her body trembling with each breath.
Her back was torn with angry purple-black welts, some still bleeding a little and others swollen beneath her broken skin.
She was forced to remain in one position, lying face down like a lizard suffering from stomach ache.
When Regina inquired about her daughter and who brought them home, she got an earload of how Tyler’s men brought them home unconscious with torn clothes and gruesome-looking bloodied whip marks on their backs.
Regina also realized that she had been sleeping for the past twenty-two hours since the previous day.
"Why is all of this happening to me?" Regina broke down in tears while Agnes acted the part of a comforting housekeeper.
"For the past six months, I’ve been in prison, suffering every manner of torture and humiliation. I thought gaining my freedom would change my situation for the better. How can I enter from one problem to another?"
"Hmm... I’m so sorry madam. Please, stop crying. It will only make your wounds hurt more." Agnes said softly while applying more stingy ointment on Regina’s stripy bruises.
"Ouch!" Regina bit down on her lower lips, groaning in so much pain as the menthol stung her bruises. "When will this nightmare end? First, my husband kicks me out of his house without a penny to my name. Now, I am made to suffer the sins of my sister."
"About your sister, Madam Regina, no one has heard from her. Where could she be?" Agnes asked innocently, her tone laced with feigned concern.
Regina instantly froze when she remembered how Pearl had been acting all crazy due to whatever drug Harriet had fed her.
"Oh my god!" Regina looked up at Agnes.
"Where is my daughter?"
"She’s in her room sleeping, ma’am."
"What about her boyfriend, Tyler! Is he around?"
"Mr Young is not in town. It was his men who brought you two home yesterday when Madam Gwen called for help?" Agnes explained standing up.
"Quickly go and wake Gwen up. We need to....ahh..." Regina winced, gritting her teeth as she managed to roll to the side in an attempt to sit up on the bed.
"Madam Regina, you shouldn’t stand up from the bed. Your wounds are still very fresh and sore. You aren’t wearing anything either." Agnes tried to stop Regina but the latter screamed in pain.
"Just help me stand up, you foolish woman, and stop talking nonsense."
"I’m sorry, ma’am." Agnes grabbed Regina roughly by the arm, where a sore bruise was and yanked her out of the bed without mercy.
"Ouch...you old witch. Are you planning to kill me?" Regina screeched pulling her hurting arm away from Agnes, scowling at her.
She patted her hurting arm, her face twisted in agony.
"I am so sorry, ma’am." Agnes grinned inwardly in satisfaction while pretending to be outwardly remorseful.
"Sorry for yourself." Regina hissed, pulling the sheet to cover her body. She hunched forward, arms trembling as she tried to steady herself, but the pain kept surging through her like waves. "Get me something very loose and light to wear."
"Yes ma’am." Agnes left to carry out Regina’s instruction while the latter reached out for her phone which was sitting on the nightstand. She unlocked the phone and scrolled to her contact in search of Pearl’s number.
She dialled Pearl’s number, hoping against hope that the latter’s number would connect. Sadly the automated electronics voice informed her that it was switched off.
"Oh God...Pearl, where are you?" Regina dialed again moving away slowly from the bed.
Each movement sent fresh fire through her spine. Her silent sobs came in sharp, ragged gasps–raw with suffering.
After dialing severally with no luck, she decided to contact Matt for help and revenge. But the number didn’t connect on the first ring.
"Ma’am, you do not have any loose-fitting clothes in your wardrobe. But I bet madam Gwen has a lot of big clothes that you can borrow." Agnes reported, holding some fitted cotton dresses.
"Are you indirectly trying to insult my daughter?" Regina spat out, her tongue as sharp as a razor for someone in a lot of pain.
"No ma’am. I was just saying you do not have any loose clothes in your wardrobe except these fitted ones."
"Fine." Regina raised her right hand up hissing. "Go to my daughter’s bedroom and get me something to wear. Also, wake her up and tell her to come to my room right now."
"I am afraid Madam Gwen is in a worse condition than you are. Because of her soft and plum body, her bruises are more deep and extensive than yours. It was a Doctor who attended to her and administered some pain relieving injections and sleeping medication to relax her nerves. Disturbing her would only worsen her condition." Agnes explained, watching Regina’s face transform from pain to pure rage.
"This all your fault, Harriet."
"Harriet!" Agnes raised a brow? "Isn’t she your brother-in- law’s wife that you all went to visit yesterday?"
"Get out of my room and do as you’ve been instructed you nosy old maggot." Regina bellowed and Agnes quickly hurried out of the room, stifling a chuckle.
"Oh, Harriet, you have just made the biggest mistake of your life. I will make sure I return this favour tenfold." Regina swore under her breath, dialling Matt’s number again.
This time around, the line connected and Matt picked up on the third ring.
"What do you want?" Matt barked from the other end, his voice cold, vicious and filled with venom.
Regina hesitated for a second, unsure if this was the right time to lodge her complaint and plan a revenge attack. She could hear the sound of honking cars in the background, which told her that Matt was probably in traffic.
"I don’t know if you’ve heard what your sister-in-law did to me and Gwen?"
"What f*cking sister-in-law are you talking about?" Matt growled, his anger and hostility taking Regina by surprise.
Regina paused, peeling the phone from her ear and wondering whether or not to end the call. But on second thought, she decided to go straight to the point.
"I’m referring to Harriet, Desmond’s wife. She invited us for dinner yesterday evening only to have us beaten by some thugs and Pearl drugged. Currently, Gwen and I are home nursing our wounds. But we have no idea what she’s doing to Pearl."
"Well, you should have seen that coming when you encouraged your sister to keep f*cking her husband."
"What?" Regina’s jaw dropped.
"It’s every man for himself b*tch. Do me the favor and get the f*** out of my phone. I have enough trouble on my plate to deal with." The call disconnected leaving Regina in complete shock.
