Flash Marriage With Mr. Sheffield: Go Away, Cheap Man!-Chapter 150: She Suspects Thea Tate
Once inside the car, Clara Sterling finally removed her hat and mask.
"You’ve lost weight." Silas Sheffield looked at her small face, his gaze filled with concern. "And you look tired."
Clara Sterling pressed her lips together, "No way, it’s just been a few days, nothing that exaggerated."
"You don’t need to put on a brave face in front of me." Silas Sheffield pulled her into his arms. "These past few days have been tough on you."
"It’s not tough at all." Clara Sterling wrapped her arms around his waist and obediently leaned against him. "You’re the one who’s had it tough, flying all day must be tiring."
"Not tired." Silas Sheffield lowered his head and gently kissed her forehead. "Seeing you makes everything worth it."
The driver tactfully raised the partition.
Silas Sheffield kissed Clara Sterling’s lips passionately, as if unwilling to part.
"Did you miss me?" he murmured beside her ear with a magnetic, seductive voice.
"I did." Clara Sterling lifted her face to respond to his kiss.
The man’s warm, large hand tightly grasped her waist, deepening the kiss.
Back at Prospect Hill, Clara Sterling was carried out of the car by Silas Sheffield.
Clara Sterling felt shy, burying her face in his chest, whispering, "Put me down, the driver is still here."
Silas Sheffield smiled but didn’t set her down.
The driver followed behind, dragging the luggage, making every effort not to draw attention to himself.
After placing the luggage, the driver quickly made his exit as if his feet were on wheels.
Silas Sheffield carried Clara Sterling upstairs.
The bathroom was filled with steam.
Under the shower, their bodies fit seamlessly together, the woman facing away from Silas Sheffield, leaving handprints on the misty glass.
...
That night, Clara Sterling and Silas Sheffield slept embraced in each other’s arms.
Silas Sheffield was exhausted from his journey, having barely slept in days to quickly wrap up work in Arctica.
Clara Sterling also hadn’t been sleeping well, often waking up startled at night.
Having just exerted themselves in the bathroom, both were physically and mentally exhausted, and they quickly fell into a deep sleep in bed.
Sleeping in the arms of the one she loved, Clara Sterling had a particularly restful sleep.
She slept through until ten in the morning.
When she woke up, the space beside her was empty. Clara Sterling glanced at the time, thinking Silas Sheffield must already be at the office.
After washing up, she went downstairs, only to find Silas Sheffield sitting in the living room with a few familiar faces beside him.
Kevin Kensington: "Hello, sister-in-law!"
Ethan Fuller: "Sister-in-law."
Zachary Lynch: "Good day, Madam."
Clara Sterling: "..."
So many people!
She had assumed no one was downstairs, so she had come out in her loungewear with her hair down.
"Hello there, uh, carry on with your chat." Clara Sterling greeted them quickly and scurried back to her room.
Thankfully, she had worn long-sleeved and long-pant loungewear and not some silk camisole nightgown, or it would have been mortifying.
This man, really, having guests over and not even giving her a heads-up.
Clara Sterling changed into something appropriate to wear outside, tidied her hair into a clip, and went back downstairs.
Silas Sheffield spotted her and beckoned her over.
Clara Sterling walked over and sat beside Silas Sheffield. "What are you guys discussing?" 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦
Silas Sheffield: "We’re talking about the recent exposé."
Clara Sterling slightly furrowed her brows, "Have you found anything?"
Ethan Fuller said, "Found out it was Jonah Shaw, but he’s clearly just a scapegoat."
Clara Sterling looked up at Silas Sheffield.
Silas Sheffield gave a slight nod, tacitly agreeing with Ethan Fuller.
"Who do you think pushed Jonah Shaw to take the fall?" Kevin Kensington asked.
Ethan Fuller glanced at Silas Sheffield. He had his suspicions but couldn’t say for certain.
They had no evidence right now, so it was pointless to speculate.
Silas Sheffield’s deep-set eyes were cold. "Hard to say, it could be Isaac Sutton, Julian Hawthorne, or Sheffield’s competitors."
Clara Sterling furrowed her brows, thinking that Silas Sheffield might have missed someone.
Thea Tate.
Ever since Thea Tate arrived in Veridian, she had been causing trouble.
Silas Sheffield wasn’t at the auction and didn’t know about her confrontation with Thea Tate.
He also wasn’t aware of the things Thea Tate said to her during the anniversary celebration.
Maybe Silas Sheffield never suspected Thea Tate because she was always so convincing in front of him.
Besides, the Tate Family and the Sheffield Family have a significant connection, and Thea Tate is currently the deputy general manager of The Veridian Branch. This trending incident inevitably affected Sheffield negatively.
If it truly was Thea Tate pulling strings behind the scenes, she would not only face external repercussions but, as a company executive, would also need to take responsibility internally, giving Sheffield ample reason to fire her.
However, Clara Sterling wasn’t certain if it was indeed Thea Tate; she had no evidence.
Besides, the other suspects Silas Sheffield mentioned also had motives.
Until evidence was found, she didn’t know what to say.
Zachary Lynch spoke up, "When I went to check the surveillance, I found that the data from that day had been tampered with. Someone hacked the system, and even with several tech experts, we couldn’t recover it."
"That’s almost like proving Jonah Shaw is just the scapegoat, right?" Kevin Kensington said, "Is there really no way to find out the truth?"
Ethan Fuller rubbed his chin, "Hard to say, we’ve investigated everything we can. The only piece of evidence has been destroyed."
Silas Sheffield coldly remarked, "If someone did it, there must be flaws."
Listening to their conversation, Clara Sterling sank into thought.
They were trying to uncover evidence directly from the incident, but since the evidence was destroyed, they hit a wall.
If she approached it differently, tackling it by starting with the suspect instead of the incident, wouldn’t that simplify things?
Silas Sheffield suspected Isaac Sutton, Julian Hawthorne, and Sheffield’s competitors.
But she thought differently.
She suspected Thea Tate.
Considering Thea Tate’s previous words and actions, it was clear that Thea Tate hadn’t given up on Silas Sheffield and was intent on causing her divorce from him to marry into the Sheffield family herself.
Clara Sterling calmed herself to organize her thoughts.
Julian Hawthorne, before knowing she was married, had shown an interest and planned to confess on May 20th. Coincidentally, Thea Tate was present that day too.
The box photo must have been taken by Thea Tate and sent to the Sheffield matriarch.
At the anniversary celebration, Thea Tate acted with such authority, as if she was Silas Sheffield’s wife.
When Silas Sheffield announced, Diana Dawson suddenly feigned a fainting spell.
Diana Dawson didn’t know who Silas Sheffield’s announced wife would be; she attended the event in formal dress, and her sarcasm toward Clara was evident, showing Diana was genuinely clueless about Clara’s identity.
Since Diana was unaware of her identity, she had no reason to fake a faint when Silas made his announcement.
There had to be someone prompting Diana’s odd behavior.
If she recalled correctly, Thea Tate was close to Diana that day and possibly promised Diana something in return for her act.
