Flip the Coin [BL]-Chapter 125 - . Settling in
Chapter 125 - 125. Settling in
Henrietta also used the ladder, even though she couldn't hold on to anything. Instead, she put her forearms through the holes and clung to the ladder, managing to get up and down that way, which was good because lowering and lifting her with a rope would take forever. Her parents watched the process, heartbroken each time, but they no longer complained to me.
When we came to the fallen church tower, where the corner of the mansion peeked out of the ground, I put Henry down. I asked the others to drag one of the destroyed cars over to the corner so that it would be hidden. It wasn't easy, but when my grandma helped as well, we managed. The car we chose was already destroyed and no more than a carcass, so it perfectly concealed the corner.
After an even longer walk, we arrived at the place where the baldies should lie; only, there were no bodies. My theory that the corpses had fallen victim to the roots was practically confirmed. Or, we had monsters running around here and dragging them away, which I doubted greatly, given the destroyed ground on which they should be unable to move with their uneven legs.
Maybe the mansion, because it was so deep in the ground, had destroyed the roots in that area—so they didn't evade it, but only came up through the ruined asphalt to the surface or something. Everyone was already exhausted when I led them inside the building, to the plateau. I put Henry down and conjured up the ladder, which everyone would have to use because the little 'garden' where I had found my grandmother was too far down.
"There are a few corpses, as you already know. Additionally, the mansion is upside-down, but I think nobody has any qualms about that; as long as it's safe." I motioned for them to step down.
"That's too high..." Jeyjey said while on Baggy Jeans' back when he stepped forward, she apparently did not want to risk falling.
"We can lower you down with a rope," I said, and she nodded.

Glasses Guy went first.
"Ah, there is also a monster corpse, just ignore it. We won't remove this one because the deer monsters don't approach corpses of their kind." At least, Henry told me so.
Everyone exchanged glances, but eventually, they climbed down.
Baggy Jeans helped me by first getting Jeyjey down using the climbing belt and rope while she went through a world of pain because of her broken leg.
Then we lowered Henry the same way, but it was a bit more challenging due to his unconsciousness, so he swayed, turned and went reverse; throwing me into an untimely laughing fit.
Finally, he made it more or less safely to the ground, and then we all started to climb from the little garden through the window inside the mansion, and finally, FINALLY, we had arrived, for fuck's sake.
But the work was not over. The smell wafting in our direction told the tale of decaying corpses.
Under my command, we brought them outside and got them up with a rope, this time simply bound and without a climbing belt because they wouldn't complain anyway. Then we threw them on the street, where the baldies' corpses had lain.
I have to say, the torso hills had trained my stomach; meanwhile, I didn't retch or anything contrary to Baggy Jeans, Anti-Guy, and Glasses Guy.
This way, we got rid of seven corpses, and everyone was dead tired.
"Good work!" I said when we returned to the big dining room, where the Devins, the girls, the dragon, and the unconscious Henry had waited for us.
"I will lead you to the food; you can go ahead and take as much as you need, there will be no limitations. You can also steal a big load and run away. Just know that if you do that, the loot will probably weigh you down, and you will become dinner for the monsters. If anyone steals and runs away, they won't be let inside again." I cleared my throat; I hate speaking in front of people.
"You can use the water for bathing; I would say, once a month, use as little as possible. Who cares about smelling when we all die of thirst? Then.... Ah, yes. You can leave and come back to the mansion anytime, but you have to tell me, and you can't go out alone because of safety reasons and because I don't want to come out and provide a ladder constantly."
"Clothes will be supplied. Choose a room; do what you want; but don't kill each other and be nice. That was all; any complaints?" I asked, looking around.
Red-Hair lifted her hand, and I raised my eyebrows at her for behaving so well. I pointed at her.
"Yes?"
"When will the second portal appear?" she asked.
"We can't talk about going back as long as the shadows are running around, or we all get dragged in front of military court for bringing danger back. So, just to explain, there are shadows in this world now. Chelsea, as well as Mr. and Mrs. Devin, have the details, just ask them. After we find a way to kill the shadows, we can take on the portal.... I would say we won't stay longer than a few months." The first part was a lie, but it should have shut them up and given them a good enough reason for our prolonged stay. Well, the last part was also a lie; I have no idea when the portal will open again.
"That long???" Red-Hair asked indignantly.
"Well, worst case, yes. But you have food and water and a floor over your head." I pointed at the ceiling and chuckled at my joke, remaining the only one who laughed.
I bet Henry would have laughed with me, given that he already found orange underwear hilarious.
"And you are in no danger of dying, isn't that good?" Raising my arms, I looked at them in question. There were no answers, and most didn't meet my eyes.
Henrietta did though, but soon looked away.
"Where are the clothes?" I asked my grandma.
"First floor, look through the rooms yourself." The first floor was equivalent to the first floor underground now.
"You heard her. Now I will show you where the food is; follow me. Grandma, please watch over Jeyjey and Henry."
The old dragon was dissatisfied that I gave away everything she owned, making a face, but she didn't speak and simply took out her gun.
With the help of a ladder, I got them to the attic, including the Devins, and when I opened the door, it felt as if everyone collectively exhaled.
Naturally, food and water provide security.
"I am sure there is a ladder somewhere; there should also be candles and things. Just look around and call for me if you need to go up. Let's stay on the floor closest to the attic so you can get food anytime." I pointed above us, and a few nodded, while others went to the water to finally quench their thirst before looking for food.
"Do what you want. Be nice," I emphasized again, and as I was about to leave, I found Chelsea grabbing my jacket.
I turned around, and she smiled.
"Thank you, Kenny!" she said, and the others turned around to thank me as well, a few with more enthusiasm than others.
I grinned at Chelsea and nodded.
"No problem."
As long as they didn't eat monsters, which they wouldn't manage to kill anyway, and became stronger than me and Henry, and, as long as they didn't turn cannibalistic, they could have whatever they wanted. My circle was smaller than theirs, and I didn't want to risk them acting out.
Additionally, there had to be some water source available in this world because the monsters also needed to drink; I had seen that fact in my vision. And there was enough food around in the form of the monsters. So there is food and water in this world anyway.
This time, I had thought it through and wasn't just acting on a male lead syndrome popping up; I think I have grown too paranoid for that.
