Flip the Coin [BL]-Chapter 164. Why always me?
Well, what can I say to that? Yeah. I would have to flip the coin on Henrietta because I really wanted to go home and wasn’t as relaxed about it as Henry seemed to be.
Though, I didn’t have to wait for Henrietta. I took Henry’s hand when we stood on the plateau leading to the little garden.
I flipped the coin, yet it didn’t turn black. I decided to look into his incorrect future and past to see what his nearest counterpart was. It should be one of the orbs inside the trash world, but let’s play it safe.
It didn’t turn black again, but it worked out with the past.
Palm, gold, incorrect past of Henry Devin. Eyes and ears uncovered.
The black-haired man with a mole under his eye hugs a woman.
"Don’t worry, I’ll come back, I promise." He leans down and kisses her deeply.
"You have to promise, Hannibal. What should I do about the kids if I don’t have you?" The orange-haired beauty looks at him with tears in her eyes.
"I know. Don’t worry, but they need me, and this dungeon should be an easy one." He strokes her hair before giving her one final kiss and turning to leave for the car that waits in front of his house.
"What did you see?" Henry asked me curiously.
"Your nearest counterpart is older than you and has a wife as well as children... And she called you Hannibal, what the fuck?" It was strange seeing Henry as some devoted husband, bidding his wife farewell.
"Ah, there are dungeons in that world; I bet they call the parallel worlds that. Let me look into it later."
"What the hell?" Henry chuckled.
"If Henrietta can only open portals to the nearest worlds, we could end up there."
"Yeah, fantastic. Four hundred fucking people who probably have an older counterpart of themselves there." I conjured up the ladder, but Henry had already jumped down, so I took it myself, though I could probably jump such a distance now as well. I’d like to test it if we weren’t about to fight four shadows.
"But if they are more proficient with the parallel-world theme, it could be good to gather information." Henry said, and suspiciously, he didn’t delve into the name thing.
I narrowed my eyes, and when we stood in the garden, I remembered that Henrietta had two first names and that she was using her second one.
"Hannibal Henry Devin?" I looked at him, and his whole body shrank when he heard that.
"Hm?" He asked, turning around and pressing his lips together unhappily.
"HAHAHAHAHAHA!" I pointed at him. What the hell? Who names their kids after Mr. Lecter? He was bound to become twisted that way.
Henry chuckled as well, gripped my finger, pulled me to him, and grabbed my jaw.
"That’s a secret between us; don’t let anybody know."
"AHHAHAHAHHA!" I blurted out and was gripped tighter.
"Don’t laugh too much or you’ll get a hiccup." His smirk was too close, and the moment he reminded me of the time inside the tunnel, my smile faded, and I didn’t find it funny anymore.
Not. at. all.
Pushing him away, I climbed through the window, where I found my grandmother sitting at the table, drinking something. 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺
"Finished with flirting?" She asked with disgust.
"Yeah, yeah. Is everyone ready?" I asked, not wanting to receive any more jabs about that topic.
"Mr. Howard!" Ethan stepped out of the kitchen with a metal plate and something to eat on it.
"My attorney." I nodded at him. Good; I wanted to talk to him anyway, and we still had some time.
Motioning for him to take a seat and sitting next to my grandma across from him, I ignored Henry, who sat on my other side, languidly crossing his arms and sliding down the seat like a kid throwing a tantrum.
"How are you?" Ethan asked before he started to eat when I gestured for him to begin his meal.
"Fine. I have a question: now that we have the miracle child of the justice system having witnessed the parallel worlds himself, can you get me out of prison?" Ethan finished chewing, meanwhile contemplating.
"No."
That wasn’t what I wanted to hear.
"And why is that?" My grandmother asked sharply on my behalf.
"I can’t say how our world will react to...this." He waved around.
"But there will probably be new laws established regarding this whole matter, a new organization will be built, and besides every country being busy defending itself, there will simply be no time for your case. And even if there were, every prisoner can claim something like this, right? ’My doppelgänger from another world did it’, etcetera."
"Yeah, but Kenny and I said that before anybody knew of anything," Henry interrupted before scoffing.
"What miracle child..."
Ethan only looked at Henry fleetingly before turning back to me.
"When we go back, you will have to tell them about your ability, and we will make a deal with them. Their interest in your ability will be piqued when they interview the four hundred people who witnessed you making a ladder appear and disappear out of nowhere. That is your ticket to get them to pay attention to you."
"His ticket to get cut open." Henry grumbled, and my grandmother snorted in agreement.
"We will work out a contract regarding the ins and outs. You, Mr. Howard, have the privilege of a wealthy grandmother who watches over you, and a good attorney, like myself." He looked at Henry before addressing me again.
"And now, with four hundred people, we will have witnesses and can amplify your story significantly, we can now threaten them with the press. That will help in negotiating a possible deal."
"Okay, let’s do this." I said, glancing at the people entering the dining room: Athena, Red Hair, Glasses Guy, Anti Guy, Mr. Devin, and Chelsea.
"We just have to do this, then we can go home?" Red Hair asked, and I nodded.
"Ethan, leave now." Henry commanded, and the poor man left with his plate, which he would have difficulty balancing while climbing the ladder down to the other rooms.
Athena stepped forward and placed the taser and knife on the table.
After we all sat down, and I flipped the coin in my mind, we waited and talked about everyone’s tasks. This simply involved my grandma and Chelsea waking Mr. Devin, Athena, me, and Henry up one after another so we could slit our throats.
We waited for another two hours when the coin turned eerie. I instructed those who would be targeted to stay together, while the ones who would get possessed in their stead stood in front of them in a circle.
"Now." I warned, seeing four figures materializing not far away.
One sprinted toward me and entered my body. However, the moment I thought everything went as planned, the second shadow entered me, then the third, and finally the fourth.
Before I lost consciousness amid Henry and my grandmother shouting something, I asked myself why the hell this kind of crap always happened to me.
