Flip the Coin [BL]-Chapter 171. Wife
(Henry’s POV)
I woke up with an immense fury crawling through my veins.
They really just knocked us out. Where was Kenny? One thing was sure: he wasn’t where he was supposed to be, and that was right by my side.
I was inside a clean white room, lying on a hospital bed, with some bandage around my wrist that didn’t hurt anymore, and the most disturbing thing was that there was an orange-haired woman sleeping on a chair, slumped over to the hospital bed, holding my hand.
I flung my hand out of her grasp, being disgusted beyond words. On the ceiling were cameras, and the door didn’t seem to be a normal one; it was one with quite a few locks. The windows were barred.
"Hannibal?" The woman woke up, and tears shot into her eyes.
"And who are you?" I asked her coldly.
"Who am I?" Her lips quivered. She had golden brown eyes, and her long orange hair was exquisitely styled.
"I am your wife. The mother of your children." She tried to grab my hand again.
I snorted.
"What love can you have for a husband you are unable to even recognize?"
She looked shocked, taken aback.
"So? Where am I? Where is Kenny"?
After being frozen for some time, she answered, finally, FINALLY.
"You are in the hospital. The doctors here are the best regarding corruptions.... He will make you alright again."
I again snorted at the nonsense she spouted.
"Where the FUCK is Kenny?"
"...Are you speaking about the man with the red eyes?"
"Mhm." Should I just kill her? Try my shadow hand on her throat? Why is this taking so long? Is Kenny in this building? Is he near?
No, hold it together. First information, then violence. Don’t make dumb mistakes.
She leaned back in a fluster.
"He is where he should be, in prison."
Ah, my head hurts. My head hurts so much; there is also a tremble inside my body. Had I ever been this angry? I don’t remember.
Time to get Kenny. I flipped the blanket back and stood up, walking to the door.
"Wait, Hannibal, honey, please. You can’t get out of—" She stopped speaking when she saw my hand wrapped in black smoke and started screaming instead.
I put my hand against the first lock, watching as it corroded until I could push it through the door easily, and so I did with the rest of the locks.
That woman still screamed, and I opened the door, for which I needed around a minute. I walked outside; there were hospital clothes on me, but who cares? A few nurses came running, and one had a taser gun.
Easy.
I sidestepped the thing that came flying at me and ran to the emergency exit; after running down the staircases and leaving the building, I came to a big lawn. Turning back, I noticed that this was a rather old and beautiful big building, all in white with exquisite embellishments.
I looked around and found a car, yet without keys it would be useless. This hospital or whatever was on a hill, and I had no idea where the prison was. Additionally, I couldn’t just march in...or could I? I don’t think I’m fast enough to sidestep a bullet.
I was in the midst of contemplating when I was shot at, this time with a tranquilizer.
"I’m sorry, Commander.... You can’t just leave Maxi and the kids behind. You have to get better." He was one of the soldiers I had seen, and when I kneeled on the ground, he helped me up.
Yet, I was soon to lose consciousness.
***********
I tried to flee a second time, and when this was unsuccessful as well, I sat down and explained everything to this supposed wife. She didn’t believe a thing, always imploring me that the corruption was speaking. Then another attempt where I just used my power to damage the window and the bars and jumped out. It hurt a bit, but it was working until I got caught again.
Again waking up in this damn room, again without Kenny. And the most infuriating part was that this woman was here every time anew.
When she woke up, I looked at her longingly.
"Maxi?"
She broke into tears.
"You remember again?" She flung herself on me, and I hugged her back, while my skin crawled at the touch.
"I’m not sure; everything is foggy. Can you help me remember? How are the kids? You haven’t brought them, right? I don’t want them to see me like this." Wouldn’t a father talk like this?
"I know, don’t worry. Sarah and Max are missing you so much. I told them you aren’t back from the mission, so they don’t know about the corruption. How did it happen?"
"I can’t really remember; I suddenly woke up with strange memories." Isn’t this enough already? Can I now go and get Kenny out of the prison?
"How did you end up with a prisoner?"
"He was there, and I wanted to apprehend him, then everything turned strange."
"I understand. Good that you brought him back and that he is convicted now."
I would love to break her neck.
"Mhm. When can we go home?" I asked; she luckily had sat back down, or I would have elbowed her away.
"You have to speak with the doctor first..." Maxi sighed and patted my hand.
"Then please arrange it. I am homesick." I want internet; I want to find out where Kenny’s prison is.
"I will. The doctor will soon come, and then we can tell him."
"Tell me about my birthdate...I was born in...?"
"Spring, March, the 24th."
"Tell me everything so that these pictures make sense." The doctor will surely ask me a few questions before letting me out.
I didn’t have to tell her twice; she instantly babbled to me everything about herself, me, and these darn children. I made sure to remember everything. My counterpart had a good life. Good for him. Prestigious family, prestigious upbringing, school, military career, and soon he had been promoted to the commander of The Dungeon Agency Task Force. But he had no Kenny, so he couldn’t have lived a really good life.
DATF was responsible to clear the dungeons, kill every living being there with the exception of survivors even if they are corrupted, and then leave. Interestingly, the portals closed when the dungeons were cleared.
That was good to know, but we had something even better, and that was my sister.
Maxi also explained the ’corruption’ to me, which was simply an absurd concept. But if they found other survivors, then that meant these portals opened in between worlds. Not just this and our world, but in other worlds as well, and contrary to us, they encounter only monster worlds. I have a suspicion about that.
If they assumed they would only find monsters, maybe they attracted worlds with only monsters. While we knew of parallel worlds, maybe we attracted worlds with people in them?
An old doctor came at some point and FINALLY asked me exactly the questions I had been fishing for. They also asked about my ability, but I feigned ignorance. I answered everything else and passed with flying colors, yet they wouldn’t let me out.
I was a hairsbreadth away from trying to flee again, only everything I had done until now would be in vain then, and they wouldn’t believe me a second time, that’s for sure. And I would probably not be able to get Kenny out as long as I was just on the run myself.
Where is Kenny? When can I see him? Is he alright? Luckily he can protect himself, but he is locked up again, DAMN IT! Does he think about me? Is he eating enough? When can I meet him? Why do we always get separated? When can we finally be together again?
