Flirted Wrong, Married Right-Chapter 830: Long Time No See
Signaling to May to wait outside, Evelyn Clayton returned to her conversation with the assistant, and the strange feeling from before had disappeared.
She sighed, "If I don’t believe you, others might have an even harder time believing."
The assistant was silent for three seconds, then laughed, "Oh Evelyn, I was just asking casually, don’t overthink it! I’m just really touched that you entrusted me with something so important."
Evelyn smiled, "I was worried about bothering you. I wanted you to come to Apex originally, but it kept getting delayed. Don’t worry, I’ll pay you as usual in the middle of the month."
"Hehe, thank you, Evelyn!"
After hanging up the call with the assistant, Evelyn walked to the door and asked May, "Where is Mr. Grant?"
"In the reception room on the first floor." May observed Evelyn’s expression, recalling the conversation with the chief secretary at noon, "Evelyn, are you going to meet him?"
Evelyn pondered for a moment without speaking, and May misunderstood her, feeling a bit uneasy.
But May didn’t dare to say much, afraid that Evelyn would realize she knew a bit of the situation.
So, May said in her usual light-hearted tone, "Evelyn, if you don’t want to see him, then don’t. Should I have security escort him out?"
"It’s okay, I’ll go." Evelyn shook her head. "Go entertain him for a bit; I’ll be there in ten minutes."
May was dumbfounded.
However, Evelyn had already turned back inside.
May was more puzzled than ever.
According to what the chief secretary told her at noon, Evelyn and James had a past together, and they even have a child, so they should at least be ex-partners, right?
Clearly, Evelyn didn’t want to meet Mr. Grant, so why was she going to meet him?
Could it be because of the child?
May had all sorts of thoughts jumbling in her mind as she took the elevator down.
Upon reaching the reception room door, May gave herself a pep talk before pushing it open.
As soon as she entered, the man on the sofa looked over.
Even though she had mentally prepared, May was still momentarily dazzled by his extraordinarily handsome face.
May berated herself inwardly for being so weak, embarrassed in front of a good-looking guy, and then tried to maintain a courteous and official demeanor, showing a standard hosting smile.
"I’m sorry, Mr. Grant. Director Sinclair is busy at the moment, but she asked you to wait for a while. She’ll be down in ten minutes."
James Grant nodded politely and distantly, "Thank you."
May couldn’t just leave casually now, so she smiled awkwardly and stood to the side, feeling incredibly anxious.
The ten minutes felt extremely long for May.
Even though sharing a room with a handsome guy wasn’t a bad thing for her, this particular handsome guy was her boss’s ex-husband, and she had to pretend she didn’t know. It was quite a torture.
Of course, May wasn’t the only one experiencing this torture.
James Grant had prepared himself for the possibility that Evelyn Clayton might refuse to see him.
But her sudden appearance left James feeling inexplicably tense.
The waiting became unbearably long.
Finally, the door to the reception room opened again, and Evelyn Clayton entered gracefully.
James instinctively stood up, his gaze fixed on her from the moment she stepped through the door, unable to look away or notice anything else.
Evelyn approached, nodded politely, and even extended her hand for a handshake with James.
"Director Grant, long time no see." Evelyn was formal yet distant, "What brings you here today?"
