Chapter 393: Davido’s Predicament.

Morning came slowly in Lagos, the kind of morning where the sunlight slipped quietly through the windows before the city fully woke up. The house had already settled after the airport trip earlier. Jeffrey, Janet, Jason and Abishola had left for their flight, and the usual noise of the house had faded into something calmer.

Dayo sat at the dining table with his laptop open, though he was not really working. The screen showed a few music files and notes from the previous studio session, but his attention kept drifting back to his phone every few minutes.

Across from him, Shina was sitting with a tablet and his phone side by side on the table. His eyes were glued to the screen.

The teaser he had posted that morning was still spreading.

Every few seconds he refreshed the page.

Each refresh showed the same thing.

The numbers were still climbing.

"Six hundred and eighty thousand," Shina said quietly, almost like he didn’t trust what he was seeing.

Dayo glanced up from his laptop.

"Already?"

Shina refreshed again.

"Seven hundred and five."

He shook his head slowly.

"I only posted this thing a few hours ago."

Dayo leaned back slightly in his chair and watched Shina scroll through the comments.

He always had a special kind of joy watching people happy or smiling so he watched Shina for a bit

Meanwhile online people were reacting exactly the way they expected.

Fans were replaying the snippet again and again. Some people were posting slowed-down versions trying to isolate the beat. Others were arguing about whether the snippet was part of Davido’s album or a separate single.

Music pages had already reposted the clip several times.

Shina let out a breath.

"Omo... the internet don catch this thing."

Dayo gave a small smile.

"That was the point of the teaser."

Shina nodded.

"But still... this one is moving fast."

Before Dayo could respond, his phone vibrated on the table.

The name on the screen appeared immediately.

Davido.

Dayo picked up the phone and answered.

"Yeah."

On the other side, Davido’s voice sounded energetic.

"Guy."

Dayo leaned back slightly.

"You’ve seen it?"

Davido laughed.

"How I no go see am? Everywhere I open this morning na that teaser."

Shina immediately looked up from his phone.

Dayo placed the call on speaker and nodded toward him.

"You’re talking to the editor himself."

Davido chuckled when he heard that.

"Shina dey there?"

"Yes," Dayo replied.

Shina leaned slightly toward the phone.

"Good morning, sir."

Davido laughed again.

"Shina, that teaser you cut... you did well."

Shina blinked for a second before smiling.

"Thank you, sir it was actually...." before he could say Dayo.

Dayo sitting across the room shock his head indicating for him to take the praise himself this left a very sweet taste of happiness in Shina.

"It’s actually an honor."

"I mean it," Davido continued. "You didn’t show too much. Just enough to make people curious."

Shina scratched the back of his head slightly, still smiling.

"Dayo was the one that told me how to keep it short." He still blurted out making Dayo shake his head.

Davido replied immediately.

"I know. But the way you edited it still matters."

For a moment Shina didn’t know what to say. Being praised directly by Davido was not something he expected when he woke up that morning.

Dayo leaned slightly forward.

"So the internet is already loud?"

Davido let out a breath on the other side of the call.

"Loud? Guy... the thing don start."

Shina refreshed his screen again.

Nine hundred thousand views.

And it still hadn’t been twelve hours.

"Almost one million already," Shina said quietly.

Davido whistled softly through the phone.

"That fast?"

Shina nodded even though Davido couldn’t see him.

"Yes, sir."

The reason for the all the hype obviously was also Dayos doing he made use of A spotlight Card to push the song.

For a moment the conversation relaxed.

But then Davido’s tone shifted slightly.

"Actually... I called because there’s something else."

Dayo noticed the change immediately.

"What happened?"

Davido exhaled slowly before answering.

"I just got a call from the label."

Shina glanced between the phone and Dayo.

"What about?"

Davido continued.

"They want to change the release plan."

The room went quiet.

Dayo leaned forward slightly in his chair with a frown wanting to sip out of his face he already knew that for Davido to call him something was happening.

"What kind of change?"

Davido paused before answering.

"They want me to drop the album and the song together."

Shina frowned immediately.

"Together?"

Davido sighed.

"Yes."

Dayo rested his elbow on the table and rubbed his chin slowly.

"That’s not what we discussed."

"I know," Davido replied.

"We already talked about this before," Dayo continued calmly. "The idea was to release the song first. Let it breathe. Then bring the album later."

Davido let out a frustrated breath.

"That’s exactly what I told them."

"What did they say?"

Davido’s voice hardened slightly.

"They said the teaser is trending. The hype is building. So they want to use the momentum to push everything at once that its for the best."

Shina shook his head quietly.

"That doesn’t even make sense."

Davido laughed once, but there was irritation in it.

"That’s what I said too."

Dayo stayed quiet for a few seconds.

Davido continued.

"I reminded them that we already agreed on the rollout plan. But they said this decision came from higher up."

"Higher up?" Dayo asked.

"The top executives," Davido replied.

"They said this is Nigeria. They understand the market. They believe the hype right now is enough to push the whole album."

Sharon who has beeb quite leaned back in her chair slowly as she knew that Davido was lucky to actually have Dayo tell him a date as many people are waiting for the opportunity and wouldn’t see it.

"That sounds risky."

Davido continued speaking.

"I even called the boss directly."

"And?"

Davido exhaled.

"He said the same thing."

"What reason did he give?" Dayo asked.

"He said the teaser already created momentum. If we delay too much, the excitement might cool down."

Dayo nodded slowly.

"So they want to capitalize on the hype."

"Exactly."

Shina crossed his arms.

"But that wasn’t the plan."

Davido sounded slightly tired now.

"I know."

There was a short silence.

Then Davido spoke again.

"I told them about the strategy you suggested. But they said it’s different here. They believe the Nigerian audience responds better when the full project drops immediately."

Sharon looked at Dayo.

She expected Dayo to react strongly.

But Dayo remained calm.

He leaned back slightly and folded his arms.

"So the decision is already final?"

Davido paused.

"More or less."

"You’re accepting it?"

Davido hesitated before answering.

"What choice do I have?"

Shina and Sharon watched Dayo carefully.

For a moment he thought Dayo might argue.

Instead Dayo simply nodded.

"Okay."

Davido sounded surprised.

"That’s it?"

Dayo shrugged slightly.

"You asked for my advice before. I gave it."

Davido stayed quiet.

Dayo continued calmly.

"If your label wants to do something different, that’s their decision."

Davido laughed softly.

"I thought you’d be more angry."

Dayo shook his head.

"Why?"

"Because this wasn’t the plan."

Dayo smiled faintly.

"I’m not the one signed to the label."

Shina chuckled quietly.

"That’s true."

Davido sounded more relaxed now.

"You’re taking this better than I expected."

Dayo leaned forward again.

"It’s your project. If the label believes this strategy will work, then let them try."

Davido was quiet for a few seconds.

Then he laughed again.

"You’re too calm."

Dayo shrugged.

"No point stressing over it."

Shina looked at his phone again.

The teaser had crossed one million views.

He showed the screen to Dayo.

"Look."

Dayo glanced down.

And the number was still climbing.

Shina shook his head slowly.

"This thing is really moving."

Davido heard the reaction through the phone.

"It passed one million?"

"Yes," Shina replied.

"Already."

Davido laughed again.

"See why the label is excited?"

Dayo looked back at the screen.

Comments were still flooding the post.

Fans arguing.

Music pages reposting the clip.

Producers analyzing the beat.

Some comments were already asking the same question.

Who produced this?

Dayo looked back at the phone.

"So what’s the new plan now?"

Davido answered calmly.

"We continue preparing."

"For the album release?"

"Yes."

Dayo nodded slowly.

"Alright."

Shina leaned forward again.

"So the song will drop together with the album?"

Davido confirmed it.

"That’s what the label wants."

Shina sighed.

"Well... the hype is already building."

Davido laughed lightly.

"Exactly."

Then he added one more thing before ending the call.

"But trust me... once this thing drops, everywhere go hear am."

Dayo smiled slightly.

"We’ll see."

The call ended a few seconds later.

The room became quiet again.

Shina leaned back in his chair and stared at the phone screen.

One million one hundred thousand views.

Still climbing.

He looked at Dayo.

"Bro."

Dayo glanced up.

"This teaser alone already caused chaos."

Dayo closed his laptop slowly.

"That’s just the beginning."

Shina smiled.

If this was only the teaser...

Then the full release would be something else entirely.
