From Broken to Beloved-Chapter 159- Stalker
Already in a foul mood because of what she’d just been propositioned with, she turned around and shot the young man a fierce glare. Thanks to the lewd man on the phone earlier, she currently had no goodwill toward men in general.
Sean wasn’t intimidated by her hostile look. Instead, he smiled at her gently, glanced at the floor number she’d selected in the elevator, and struck up a conversation on his own initiative.
"You’re heading to Bert Technology too?"
Amy ignored him. She didn’t have the patience for him anyway, because her phone rang again—this time it was Bert. He told her to come see him in his office once she got back to the company.
Amy agreed and hung up. She knew exactly why Bert was calling her in. That guy must have complained to Bert already.
Whatever. Whether Bert wanted to scold her, punish her, or even fire her, she honestly didn’t care.
Amy was no rookie—she’d been in the workplace for years. What kind of darkness and filth hadn’t she seen or experienced? Normally, she should have swallowed it this time too. But she didn’t know what had been wrong with her lately—her mood had been atrocious—so she hadn’t managed to rein herself in just now.
She figured it was probably because recently, everyone around her had gotten into relationships, constantly flaunting their love and sweetness, making her, a single woman, simmer with irritation.
No need to look far—just take Catherine from the same office, for example. She and Bert were practically dripping with sweetness.
On top of that, her period was coming up, which only made her temper worse. So that disgusting man on the phone had simply become her outlet. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
Amy continued to ignore Sean. Sean didn’t try to chat her up again either. He merely stood there quietly, observing her without drawing attention. Judging by her appearance, she seemed to be an employee at Bert Design. Once he talked to Bert later, he’d be able to find out more about her easily enough.
Yes—Sean had taken a liking to this girl.
He liked women who were genuine and straightforward like her—unpretentious, unmasked, unwilling to sell their bodies for personal gain or let themselves be bullied. She had principles, lived clearly, and knew exactly where she stood.
Sean was going to see Bert. Amy was also going to see Bert. So the two of them got off on the same floor and headed in the same direction. Finally losing her patience, Amy—who was walking in front—suddenly stopped. Before Sean could react, she spun around, lifted her foot, and viciously stomped on his shoe with the heel of her high heel, angrily snapping,
"Stalker!"
Sean let out a yelp of pain.
Because Sean had tried to strike up a conversation with her earlier, and because he had been heading in the same direction as she was, Amy had assumed he was a lecher deliberately following her. That was why she’d taken such drastic action.
Sean was utterly innocent. The pain from being stepped on was so intense that sweat beaded on his forehead. Hearing the commotion, Bert’s assistant came out of the office. Seeing Sean’s pained, tightly furrowed expression, he hurriedly asked,
"Sean?"
"What happened?"
Sean raised a hand and pointed at Amy, gritting his teeth as he said indignantly,
"Ask her!"
When Amy heard Bert’s assistant call him "Sean," she immediately realized they knew each other, and for a moment she was visibly startled.
"Sean? You know each other?"
Bert’s assistant explained,
"This is Sean, the secretary to the boss of MOS Corp. He’s here to deliver something to Lord Washington."
Earlier, Bert had already received a call from Morrison, informing him that Sean would be coming by to deliver the wedding invitations for Gerald and Lucca. Bert had instructed his assistant in advance to receive him properly.
After hearing the explanation, Amy realized she’d made a complete blunder.
But she wasn’t the type to dodge responsibility. Once she knew she’d misunderstood Sean, she immediately apologized openly and straightforwardly, looking him in the eye.
"I’m sorry, Sean. I misunderstood you earlier. I sincerely apologize for my rude behavior."
She’d already been that forthright as a woman; as a man, Sean naturally couldn’t make a fuss about it either. Since Amy still had business to attend to with Bert, she didn’t linger any longer.
"I still have something to take care of. I’ll go see Lord Washington now."
With that, she turned and entered Bert’s office.
Sean’s foot still hurt from where she’d stomped on it. Limping slightly, he went into the assistant’s office and handed over the invitation. Unable to help himself, he sighed,
"This counts as a workplace injury. I’ll have to go back and get reimbursed by my boss."
Bert’s assistant laughed. Taking advantage of the moment, Sean casually asked about Amy. One look at his expression and the assistant could tell Sean had taken an interest in her, so he told Sean everything he knew about Amy—including the fact that she had once harbored feelings for Bert.
Thinking of how Monna had once been infatuated with Morrison as well, Sean couldn’t help but sigh inwardly. It seemed that he and the Norton brothers shared eerily similar romantic fates—each of them falling for women who had once loved another man.
But whether it had been admiration or not no longer mattered—it was all in the past anyway.
Sean felt that fate was truly a marvelous thing. He had never imagined that a simple errand to deliver a wedding invitation would lead him to meet a woman he genuinely liked. At first, he’d been drawn to her personality alone, but after learning more about her, that fondness had only deepened.
Inside Bert’s office, Amy stood there with her head lowered, silent.
Bert glanced at her.
"What’s wrong? Why so quiet now? Where did all that courage to ’send regards to someone’s ancestors’ go?"
Amy felt awkward. Those words really had been blurted out in a moment of uncontrollable anger.
Although the client’s filthy proposition had infuriated her, Amy knew perfectly well that she shouldn’t have said something as extreme as cursing someone’s ancestors. So facing Bert, she didn’t offer any excuses or arguments.
Bert’s expression remained serious as he continued,
"As for your firm and righteous refusal of a client who made such a disgusting demand, I fully support you. Employees of our company are not so desperate that they need to sell their bodies just to secure a project. If that were the case, it wouldn’t only be your incompetence—it would be mine as well."
"But regarding the way you directly cursed him like that, I do have to criticize you for it."
In truth, Bert wasn’t particularly angry about the client complaining directly to him. In fact, he had already made it clear to that client that Bert Design would permanently refuse to provide any design services to that man’s company in the future.
For clients with such low morals and repulsive behavior, Bert chose to eliminate them outright. He himself deeply despised shameless people of that sort, and there was no reason for him to continue working with them.
"As for people who offend you or harm you, responding so bluntly and directly..."
