From Broken to Beloved-Chapter 170- a perfect match
After the scandal at Lucca and Gerald’s wedding broke out, Morrison called Bert to take credit for it, going on at length about how much he had contributed. In truth, he simply wanted Bert to feel indebted to him—and, hopefully, to stop targeting him at every turn in the future.
Unexpectedly, Bert showed no appreciation at all. Morrison talked for quite a while, and Bert responded with just one sentence:
"Are you done? If you are, hang up. I still have a meeting later."
On the other end of the line, Morrison clenched his teeth in anger. He thought Bert was unbearably arrogant—acting so high and mighty just because he happened to be Lilian’s older brother.
But there was no way out of it. Swallowing his displeasure, Morrison changed the subject and asked,
"So... that Amy from your company—what kind of person is she?"
Last time Sean had returned from Morrison’s company, he had mentioned that he was interested in Amy. As a boss concerned about his subordinate’s future, Morrison decided to personally call and ask around.
Bert, as Amy’s boss, naturally knew her better than her colleagues did. Coworkers might see one side of her, but an employer always saw another.
And since Sean was one of Morrison’s two most capable assistants, Morrison took Sean’s future partner very seriously. He hoped Sean could be like Norton—meet an outstanding woman, have a good relationship, and build a warm family. Only then could they work without worries.
Of course, beyond work, Morrison had long since developed a brotherly bond with Norton and Sean. More than anyone else, he wanted them to be happy. Now that Norton and Monna were blissfully married, Sean was the only one left. Morrison had to care.
Bert’s tone was cool and flat.
"You’re interested in her?"
Morrison: "..."
Could this brother-in-law not speak properly for once? As if he dared to be interested. Besides, he had no energy to think about other women—his life consisted of nothing but work and Lilian.
Bert clearly knew this, yet deliberately made such cutting remarks just to needle him. It was infuriating.
Grinding his teeth, Morrison snapped,
"Don’t tell me you don’t know my secretary Sean has his eye on her."
Bert shot back,
"Whoever’s interested can find out themselves. Why are you sticking your nose into it?"
"Okay, okay. I won’t ask anymore. You go do your work."
Morrison couldn’t understand where Bert’s sudden hostility was coming from. He had only wanted to help his subordinate learn a bit more about Amy, yet Bert acted as if he’d swallowed a stick of dynamite and exploded at him.
What Morrison didn’t know was that Bert was in a foul mood—
Because Catherine had just gotten her period.
For Bert, who had gone without sex for quite some time, being able to indulge himself freely only to have everything come to an abrupt halt shortly afterward was, understandably, infuriating.
Originally, he had planned to enjoy a moment of intimacy with her that morning. He always woke up early, while Catherine was still half-asleep, though she instinctively responded to him in a drowsy way. He had taken his time with the foreplay, making sure everything was more than sufficient—only for Catherine to suddenly ask him to stop. He froze above her, instantly feeling miserable. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺
"I—I think my period just started..."
Catherine felt innocent enough; after all, it wasn’t something she could control.
So Bert had no choice but to let her go. Catherine couldn’t fall back asleep either. She hurried into the bathroom, tidied herself up, and then returned to bed—where Bert was still lying there, sulking in silence.
Bert didn’t even know exactly what he was angry about. He knew he shouldn’t be upset—this was something women had to deal with every month—but he still felt frustrated, tortured both physically and mentally.
After getting back into bed, Catherine leaned over and said softly,
"I’m sorry... I’ve been so out of it these past few days that I forgot about the timing..."
Since being with Bert, she had almost forgotten about her period altogether, thanks to his constant demands. If she had remembered sooner, maybe she could have stopped him before things went that far—and he wouldn’t be suffering like this now.
Bert was still in a foul mood. He let out a low huff and was about to get up and head for the bathroom.
Before he could move, Catherine suddenly pushed him back down onto the bed. Her face was flushed as she spoke in a quiet voice,
"Then... then maybe I can help you instead..."
She had noticed that he was still clearly affected and knew he must be uncomfortable. Seeing him like that made her ache for him, and that was how she worked up the courage to make such a bold suggestion.
The desire he had just managed to suppress surged back instantly at her initiative, his blood rushing once again to places that made him tense and uncomfortable.
There was no room left for restraint. He pulled her into his arms, guiding her soft hand to give him release and relief.
Still, no matter what, the sensation was far from what it would have been otherwise—and that was precisely why Bert’s mood remained sour, leading him to take it out on Morrison earlier.
Morrison, in the end, could only chalk it up to sheer bad luck.
December 12 was the wedding day of Karl and Marylin, chosen for its meaning of "a perfect match made in heaven."
Although Karl worked in academia rather than business, he was still the second son of the Mo family, and the wedding was held on a grand scale.
Of course, this grandeur could not be compared to the wedding of Morrison and Lilian. Morrison was, after all, the helmsman of the Mo family’s business empire, and Lilian was the daughter of the Burg Eltz family—naturally, their wedding had shaken the entire city.
Still, for Karl and Marylin, this wedding was more than satisfying.
Especially for Marylin, everything felt dreamlike, almost unreal.
She had never imagined that one day she would marry a man like this—handsome in appearance, distinguished in family background, accomplished and learned, and most importantly, someone who loved her so deeply.
In the age when love first blossoms, nearly every girl has dreamed of such a romance and longed to marry such a man. Yet after enduring the trials and pressures of society and reality, one comes to realize how difficult it is just to find a man who truly loves you—let alone one so perfect.
Fortunately, Marylin was lucky, and she was happy.
Marylin once told Karl that she felt fortunate to have met him and to be loved by him.
Karl, however, did not see it as her good fortune. He said it was because she herself had never stopped striving to become better—because she was outstanding enough, beautiful both inside and out, that she had caught his eye at first sight.
He said it was his luck to have found her among the vast sea of people.
Whose fortune it truly was no longer mattered. What mattered was that it was their shared destiny, something both of them cherished. This wedding stood as the finest testament to their love.
As for Linda, she had organized two weddings within a single year, settling the lifelong happiness of both her sons—one of her daughters-in-law was even expecting a child. Though the grand weddings had been exhausting, they were also filled with joy, and Linda was smiling so much her mouth practically wouldn’t close.
Catherine and Bert were also invited to attend. Marylin wore a variety of gowns designed by Bert, each one breathtakingly beautiful. Whether it was the pure white wedding dress, the traditional Chinese ceremonial attire, or the gown worn for toasts, every piece perfectly outlined Marylin’s figure and highlighted her exquisite, radiant beauty. Coupled with the wedding diamond rings designed by Catherine, every detail left an unforgettable impression on Marylin.
For such a grand wedding, Marylin chose only one bridesmaid—Zoey. To Marylin, this once-in-a-lifetime wedding was something she wanted to share closely with her best friend; she didn’t want anyone else by her side.
Laurent and Vivian were both already married, making it inappropriate for them to serve as bridesmaids, so Zoey was the only choice.
Zoey had even taken time off and traveled from abroad specifically to be her best friend’s bridesmaid.
The bridesmaid dress was a sleeveless lotus-pink gown, adorned at the bodice with petal-like embellishments. It made her look like a delicate flower fairy—fresh and understated, while beautifully highlighting Zoey’s serene and elegant temperament.
The bridesmaid dress was also designed by Bert and was named "Orchid in a Hidden Valley."
Many brides prefer their bridesmaids not to dress too beautifully, for fear of being overshadowed, but Marylin thought differently. The bridesmaid dress had been personally requested by her and tailored by Bert specifically for Zoey.
For Marylin, having her closest friend as her bridesmaid meant wanting Zoey to look her absolute best. She wasn’t worried in the slightest about being upstaged—after all, few could outshine Marylin herself. With her naturally striking beauty and flawless bridal makeup, she already outshone everyone present.
