Chapter 31: Operation Follow That Car!

Oh, darling! Special shout-out to you Dion45. Gosh, stop spoiling me :3

...

Rochelle followed him. "Why?"

He stopped abruptly at the door and she paused, almost bumping into his back. "I have somewhere to be with my boss."

"We can have it some other time?" Rochelle called out, taking a step toward him.

But Thomas didn’t stop or even look back. The door clicked shut behind him, leaving Rochelle alone in the silent office.

She stood there for a moment before slapping a hand over her own face. "Ugh... Rochelle, you sounded so desperate. Mrs. Colburn better double my salary for this."

...

"Is he gone?"

Brianna’s head peeped into the office, her eyes scanning the room before landing on Rochelle, who still had her hands glued to her face in shame.

Rochelle quickly straightened her hair, trying to reclaim her dignity. "Yes. He’s gone."

Brianna stepped inside, crossing her arms. "What kind of interrogation session only takes a few minutes?"

Rochelle groaned. "I don’t know. He was asking about the fall, but I... I tried and failed at seducing him."

Brianna let out a long sigh, looking at Rochelle who had grown up in a lovely, saintly home and possessed a natural, modest beauty. Brianna honestly hadn’t expected her to go to such lengths.

"Well, at least you did your best. You seemed to... scare him away," Brianna said, biting her lip to hold back a laugh at the mental image of Rochelle’s "seduction."

Rochelle rolled her eyes, her face still flushed. "I asked him to dinner, but he declined. He said he has to meet his boss. I’m assuming it’s President Lucian."

Brianna froze, her heart skipping a beat, and the humor of the moment vanished instantly. He’s going to meet Lucian? "Did he say where they were going?"

"No."

Brianna’s eyes narrowed into deep slits of calculation. "We have to follow them."

Rochelle was taken aback. Dropping her jaw, "What?"

...

In the company garage, Rochelle trailed behind Brianna’s determined, fast-moving frame. Her heels clicking rapidly as she struggled to keep pace. "Mrs. Colburn! Mrs. Colburn, slow down!"

Upon reaching her own car, Brianna finally slowed her stride, allowing Rochelle to catch her breath.

Brianna’s mind was racing. If Thomas was sniffing around for answers about the fall, it meant Lucian was aware of it. She needed to know exactly what Thomas was reporting and where they were heading.

Was it a business meeting, or were they meeting someone connected to the villa?

Rosa...

Rochelle panted. "Mrs. Colburn, this is a bad idea. We can’t just follow them around like private investigators."

Brianna nodded, and Rochelle let out a massive sigh of relief, thinking her boss had finally regained her senses.

"You’re right," Brianna said firmly.

"We can’t follow them in my car. Lucian knows all my cars. Where are your car keys?"

She stretched her hand toward Rochelle, with an unwavering gaze. Rochelle looked like she was actually going to pass out. In total defeat, crushed under the sheer weight of the "bossy" aura, Rochelle reached into her bag and dropped the keys to her Rolls-Royce into Brianna’s palm.

"Fine," Rochelle whispered. "But when this backfires, don’t blame it on me."

Brianna didn’t even hear the last line. She was already striding toward the white Rolls-Royce. Just as they reached the vehicle, Brianna suddenly ducked, her hand reached out and pull Rochelle down into a crouch behind the hood of a nearby SUV.

"Look," she whispered.

A few rows over, Thomas was standing beside a familiar black Cadillac; Lucian’s car. He was leaning down, talking to someone through the tinted window. Brianna strained her ears, wishing she could hear even a fragment of the conversation, but the distance was too great.

Suddenly, the black car’s engine roared to life and began to pull toward the exit.

"It’s go time," Brianna’s voice dropped into a determined low gear as she slipped into the driver’s seat.

Rochelle, wishing she could simply dissolve into the pavement, reluctantly climbed into the passenger side.

Brianna shifted the car into gear and glided out of the garage, maintaining just enough distance to remain a ghost in their rearview mirror.

Lucian’s car drove through the afternoon traffic, making Brianna grip the steering wheel.

"I can’t believe we’re doing this," Rochelle whimpered, clutching the door handle as Brianna took a sharp turn. "If my mother knew I was using her graduation gift to stalk the President of the Better Health Group, she’d take back the keys and send me back to finishing school."

"Your mother wants you to be resourceful, Rochelle. This is resourcefulness," Brianna spoke calmly, though her focus was intense.

Lucian’s car led them away from the busy commercial district and toward a more secluded, high-end area.

Brianna kept two cars between them, using the bulk of a city bus to shield the conspicuous luxury of the Rolls-Royce.

Furrowing her brows, Brianna’s feet hovered over the brake. "They’re slowing down."

Up ahead, Lucian’s car turned into the narrow street of the NoLife Memorial Park.

Rochelle’s voice dropped into a whisper. "A cemetery? Mrs. Colburn, stalking a man at a club is one thing, but stalking him at a graveyard is... that’s a different level of bad luck."

Ignoring her, Brianna pulled the car near the back entrance a safe distance away. She watched as Thomas stepped out of the car, held the door for a tall, imposing figure—Lucian—and then watched him walk in alone.

To maintain their cover, they couldn’t follow the main road. Brianna led the way toward the rusted iron perimeter fence at the rear of the grounds.

Looking at the spikes, Rochelle scoffed unbelievably. "Mrs. Colburn... Doctor... Please tell me we are not climbing a fence in designer heels."

"Boost me up," Brianna said simply.

Minutes later, they were crouched behind a massive, weathered granite headstone. Rochelle was vibrating with discomfort. "Something is crawling on me. I think it is ants. Or grave spiders. Mrs. Colburn, there are ants on my ankles!"

"Quiet," Brianna shushed, locking her eyes on the figure fifty yards away.
