From Evil Sect Leader to Doctor-Chapter 384 - 359: Drawing the Sword to Help
The dishes hadn’t arrived yet, and Pu Jian was fiddling with the jade bottle he had won at auction. The more he looked at it, the more he felt it was just so-so. Ming Dynasty jade had the crude characteristics common to that period. The quality of the jade was okay, but the workmanship was nothing to boast about. At best, it was worth the price he paid. It’s really hard to get a bargain at an auction.
But that didn’t bother him. He could still find a way to sell the bottle at a high price.
Chunliang asked, "What’s the story with that Wang Jiancheng?"
Pu Jian replied, "He’s the kind of person who should be on the rich list, but nobody dares to put his name there."
Chunliang nodded and said, "Rich!"
"They’re not just rich. There are plenty of wealthy people in our country, but in the eyes of the privileged class, rich people are also ranked. Let’s put it this way, some businesses are only done by a select few, and the Wang family is one of those special groups."
"Red-capped businessman?"
Pu Jian laughed, "You’re really smart. Now it’s my turn to ask you, who is this Miss Mo? She didn’t even blink when she bought a necklace for 29 million."
Chunliang gave a brief introduction about Mo Han.
Pu Jian immediately looked up Equatorial Capital and nodded repeatedly, "No wonder, Luan Yuchuan, this guy is quite formidable. But even someone like Luan Yuchuan wouldn’t want to offend Wang Jiancheng, unless they had some old grudge."
Chunliang realized that Pu Jian was pretty smart, easily grasping the key to the problem.
Wang Jiancheng knocked on the study door, and after receiving permission, he entered his father’s study.
The curtains in the study were drawn. Wang Zhengdao sat behind the desk, holding a pipe. The swirling smoke made his expression look somewhat mysterious.
"Dad!" Wang Jiancheng said respectfully.
Wang Zhengdao nodded, "I heard you went to the auction?"
Wang Jiancheng sighed inwardly. As expected, his every move was under his father’s control. He was sick of it deep down; his father’s need for control was too strong. It might have been due to his health, making it inconvenient to appear outside often, so he craved to know everything about the people around him.
Wang Jiancheng didn’t show a hint of dissatisfaction and appeared exceptionally humble, "Yes, I usually attend Bao Li’s auctions."
Wang Zhengdao sighed, "I haven’t been out for three years." Three years ago, he announced his retreat from public life, handing over management of the company to his son and staying out of the public eye. The real reason was his strange illness, making him sensitive to light.
Wang Jiancheng said, "Dad, I heard there’s an expert in Europe who excels in treating neurological diseases, how about..."
Wang Zhengdao shook his head, "It’s the Western doctors who made me like this." He took a puff of his pipe, "I seldom hear of you being thwarted at auctions."
Wang Jiancheng respectfully replied, "Didn’t you say, father, not to focus on short-term gains but to strive for long-term success?"
Wang Zhengdao chuckled, "I didn’t say that; it was said by Lord Zeng Wenzheng." Wang Zhengdao greatly admired Zeng Guofan’s character and used Zeng Guofan’s family teachings to discipline his children.
Wang Jiancheng counted himself lucky. Thankfully, he didn’t let ego get in the way at the auction; otherwise, his father would have been furious.
"Jiancheng, you shouldn’t have given up!"
Wang Jiancheng thought he had misheard. Did he do something wrong?
"You made it known early on that you wanted to bid on that necklace for the Qiao family’s daughter. On the surface, it showed your regard for her, but actually, you intended to intimidate others, aiming to acquire it at the base price. In terms of business, your approach wasn’t wrong, but emotionally, it lacked heart. Anyone could see you were too pragmatic, unwilling to spend frivolously even in personal matters."
Wang Zhengdao took a puff and continued, "Even in matters of personal feelings, if you calculate so meticulously, others will doubt your sincerity. It was actually a good thing someone competed with you; you could have used that to complete the deal perfectly, but unfortunately, you chose to give up in the end."
The temperature in the study wasn’t high, but beads of sweat appeared on Wang Jiancheng’s forehead. Had he really made a mistake?
"Not to focus on short-term gains but to strive for long-term success, but the premise is that you must be able to clearly distinguish between what’s more and less important. The Qiao family is surely watching your every move. Is the Qiao family’s daughter not worth 30 million?"
Wang Jiancheng’s heart shuddered, awakened by his father’s words, yet he responded reluctantly, "Father, the Qiao family is not what it used to be."
Wang Zhengdao looked at his son coldly, "Your biggest problem is your lack of perspective. If the Qiao and Wang families could form an alliance by marriage, it would be mutually advantageous. What right do you have to look down on the Qiao family?"
Wang Jiancheng said, "I do not look down on the Qiao family, it’s just that her last name is Mei..."
"Do you despise her for being illegitimate?"
Wang Jiancheng didn’t speak, but his expression admitted it.
"She is Elder Qiao’s most beloved granddaughter."
Chunliang and Pu Jian drank for nearly an hour, and Yan Jingsong still hadn’t come. He called Pu Jian, explaining that the leader had a task, and he wouldn’t be able to make it this afternoon.
Pu Jian hung up and said to Chunliang, "Don’t wait for him, he’s busy currying favor with the leaders."
Chunliang laughed, "In the system, trying to make a living means putting the leaders first, sometimes we just can’t help it, try to be more understanding."
Pu Jian said, "Buddy, tell me the truth, did you call Mo Han to mess with Wang Jiancheng?"
Chunliang shook his head.
Pu Jian couldn’t believe it, noticing that Xu Chunliang’s gaze was directed behind him.
Pu Jian also turned his head to look, but before he could fully turn around, a large hand pressed down on his shoulder, and three burly men surrounded him.
The leader, a man with a buzz cut, grinned viciously, "Yo, isn’t this Master Pu, a descendant of the imperial family."
Pu Jian shuddered with fear upon seeing them and forced a smile, "Master Kui! It’s you, scared the hell out of me, please, have a seat, let’s have a drink together, order whatever you like, it’s on me."
The man called Master Kui laughed heartily, "Generous of you, Master Pu, have you gotten rich?"
"No... no, I’ve not gotten rich..." Pu Jian, who was usually glib, stuttered in fright.
Master Kui grabbed Pu Jian by the collar and yanked him up from the seat, "Come on, we haven’t seen each other for a while, let’s go out and have a good chat."
Xu Chunliang asked, "What’s your intention?"
The two men beside Master Kui glared at Xu Chunliang fiercely, pointing for him to stay put.
Pu Jian said, "This has nothing to do with you, old friends, old friends, we’re just going out to chat for a bit."
The three burly men hustled Pu Jian towards the outside.
Xu Chunliang immediately knew they meant no good; Pu Jian would be in trouble if they took him outside. He quickly settled the bill and chased after them.
The three led Pu Jian into a back alley.
Pu Jian said, "Easy, guys, my outfit is valuable." The man he called Master Kui, Liu Kui, made fake goods, and Pu Jian had disrupted his business, leading to their enmity.
In a secluded spot, Liu Kui pointed at his nose and cursed, "You’ve got guts to mess with my business."
Pu Jian smirked, "Master Kui, what are you saying, you’re my senior, I’ve always seen you as an idol."
"Idol?" Liu Kui grabbed Pu Jian’s collar and raised his hand to slap him.
A lazy voice came from behind, "Let him go!"
Liu Kui turned his head, and his two companions moved toward Xu Chunliang.
Pu Jian said, "Buddy, this is between us, old friends talking." Although he was a bit sharp-tongued, he wasn’t mean-spirited. Knowing he couldn’t avoid a beating, he didn’t want another person getting hurt.
Xu Chunliang said, "Since you called me buddy, I can’t let you suffer."
One of the burly men reached for Xu Chunliang’s chest, "Get... ow!"
Xu Chunliang grabbed his wrist, pulled and yanked, dislocating the man’s arm in an instant. The other man, not grasping the situation, rushed at Xu Chunliang after hearing his companion’s cries, threw a punch aimed at Xu Chunliang’s face. Xu Chunliang darted forward like a cheetah, dodging the punch, while his shoulder slammed into the man’s chest, sending him flying back as if lifted by clouds.
Xu Chunliang stepped closer to Liu Kui, who, seeing his two companions couldn’t withstand even a single round against Xu Chunliang, grew scared, realizing he was up against a master!
Pu Jian patted his hand, "Let go, I said let go!" Seeing Xu Chunliang fight so well, Pu Jian found his courage.
Liu Kui released Pu Jian, assuming a boxing stance.
Xu Chunliang said, "Is there nothing that can’t be discussed? Must it come to blows?"
Pu Jian adjusted his clothes, "Right, buddy, I’m fine, let them go..."
While Liu Kui hesitated between leaving or taking a swing at Xu Chunliang, his vision blurred as Xu Chunliang slapped him across the face, making him see stars.
The crisp sound of the slap stunned Pu Jian too, realizing Xu Chunliang was serious, even against Liu Kui’s gang, who were not to be trifled with.
Xu Chunliang asked, "If you let them go now, can you guarantee they won’t trouble you in the future?"
Pu Jian shook his head; he knew Liu Kui and his people too well. He feared they would come back to trouble him again unless someone respected in the industry could mediate, leaving him no choice but to bow his head and apologize to Liu Kui with some humble pie. But with Xu Chunliang’s slap, this grudge seemed to deepen.
The slap enraged Liu Kui, who cursed, "You bastard..."
Bam! Another slap struck him squarely, spinning him around like a top.
Xu Chunliang said, "With people like this, you must eradicate the problem at its root; don’t stop me, I’ll help you eliminate future troubles, once and for all."
The three were terrified; in broad daylight, was he really harboring murderous thoughts? A fierce man indeed! They didn’t dare to resist, turning away to run.
Pu Jian rushed forward and hugged Xu Chunliang, "Buddy, no! It’s not worth it, stop!" He was acting, too, "Master Kui, you all run while I hold him back!"
Turning around, he saw the three had already vanished.
Pu Jian wiped the cold sweat off his forehead, thinking how close it was today, if not for Xu Chunliang stepping in, he’d surely have been beaten up badly.
