From Villain to Virtual Sweetheart: The Fake Heir's Grand Scheme(BL)-Chapter 190: Caught Between Yesterday and Today
Chapter 190: Caught Between Yesterday and Today
Wednesday morning finally arrived, and Micah stood in front of the mirror, adjusting the collar of his light blue shirt for the third time. He smoothed out imaginary wrinkles from his blazer and checked his hair again, tugging it slightly to cover more of his forehead. The dark circles under his eyes hadn’t fully disappeared, but at least he looked put together.
He took a deep breath and exhaled slowly. His reflection stared back with the same nervous eyes.
Would Clyde be there?
Micah had no idea how to act around him. Should he be cold and polite? Or thank him warmly for helping out?
Could he keep a straight face if Clyde gave him a cold shoulder? Or would he lose his temper like yesterday?
But today, they wouldn’t be alone. There should be many staff around.
And then there was Darcy...
Micah pursed his lips.
After what happened last night, after what he did and said while drunk, he couldn’t face Darcy properly. He could still hear Nick and Eddie’s cackling in his ears, see them doubling over with laughter as they mimicked his drunken voice.
"Little brother ~ you’re so handsome..."
Micah groaned at the memory and covered his face.
Micah wanted the ground to open up and swallow him whole. How could he have acted like a spoiled, clingy boy in front of Darcy and others?
The thought of meeting Darcy’s eyes now petrified him. Would he tease him again?
Micah let out a sigh and left the dorm room. He made his way downstairs. His legs felt heavier with every step. He reached the bottom of the building and stepped outside, standing near the front steps. His fingers fiddled with the edge of his sleeve while he kicked a small pebble near the curb.
A minute passed, and then another.
Where was Darcy?
Micah shifted his weight from one foot to the other, glancing at the entrance every few seconds. How should he behave in front of Darcy? The embarrassment from last night kept circling in his head.
The glass door creaked open.
Darcy stepped out, wearing a black hoodie over a white shirt and jeans. He looked casual; no one would guess he had spent twenty minutes panicking over his appearance. As soon as he spotted Micah, his footsteps slowed.
There he was, Micah, standing awkwardly with his hands shoved into the pockets of his blazer, his silver hair gleaming under the morning sun. The sunlight softened his features, and for a moment, Darcy couldn’t breathe properly. The way Micah’s lashes fluttered as he looked down, the way his cheeks were still tinged with a soft pink hue...
Darcy’s heart thumped violently inside his chest. He gulped loudly.
Then Micah turned his head and caught sight of him.
Their eyes met.
Micah looked away immediately, his ears flushing red.
Darcy felt like a firework had gone off inside his mind. He rubbed the back of his neck, swallowing hard. free𝑤ebnovel.com
He walked toward Micah.
"Hey," he said with a hoarse voice. He cleared his throat.
Micah’s head snapped up. "Got a cold?" he asked, concerned, taking a step closer.
Darcy shook his head.
Micah frowned slightly. "You sure? It’s my fault. Last night I dragged you to the clinic... might catch something from there."
Darcy’s expression softened. Ah... the way Micah always worried about him...
Without thinking, he reached out and gently ruffled Micah’s carefully styled hair. "A warm drink and I will be okay."
"Hey!" Micah was caught off guard. "What are you doing??" he quickly tried to smooth his hair. "I worked hard on my hair today."
"Sorry," Darcy said, shoving his hands in his jeans pockets. "Why did you dress up?"
"I want them to take us seriously. Not thinking of us as just a bunch of kids."
Darcy shook his head while his lips stretched upward. "How is your stomach?"
"Don’t worry, I’m fine. I had a glass of honey water this morning," Micah said with a wave of his hand. He walked toward the exit. "Let’s go. Or we will be late. The traffic jam is awful this time of day."
Darcy followed him with a smile on his face. Watching Micah walk ahead, hair still a bit messed up from the ruffle, he felt that strange warmth growing in his chest again.
They got a taxi and made their way to the La Riviere Pharmaceutical. The ride was quiet, save for Micah tapping his fingers on his knees and Darcy occasionally glanced at him.
When they arrived, the building towered above them, sleek glass windows reflecting the bright sky.
Inside the lobby, they approached the front desk. Micah gave his name, and the receptionist immediately straightened up.
"One moment, please," she said, typing quickly. Then she picked up a phone and made a short call, speaking in hushed tones.
Soon, a tall man in a grey suit arrived. "Right this way," he said politely and gestured for them to follow.
They stepped into the elevator, and as the doors closed, Micah caught the receptionist leaning over to her colleague.
"Who are they? Why did higher-ups tell us to treat them like VIP? They were just teenagers, right?"
"Probably rich kids from prominent families," the other whispered back.
"Nah, you know how many famous names I have seen here? Never did they get this level of treatment."
"Hmm... really strange."
The two ended their chat when their superior walked by.
On the eighth floor, the elevator doors opened with a soft ding. The hallway was quiet, carpeted in grey with soft lighting. Darcy and Micah were led to a lounge area with pale blue couches and a refreshment corner on one side.
Micah sat down stiffly, crossing his arms. Darcy took the seat next to him.
Micah’s behaviour seemed off. His nervousness had only intensified since they stepped into the building.
Darcy could not fathom why. Back on campus, Micah had been awkward at first, clearly embarrassed about last night. But once they talked, he had visibly relaxed.
Everything was okay until they got close to the La Riviere building.
Was it because of the new drug? They were just here to ask a few questions, right? Nothing serious... There shouldn’t be any reason for Micah to be this jittery.
What could be the reason?
Darcy’s eyes kept flickering toward Micah.
