Behind him were his team members.

The data showed the latest satellite imagery of Dille City. The moss layer had become thicker. While the dark green moss sphere in the city center hadn't changed much, the moss at the city's edges had started to expand outward.

"The range of the moss has increased again," Chairman White continued. "Our team entered from the northeast of the city. After advancing three kilometers, communication became severely disrupted, and then we could no longer maintain contact with the rear. However, we could still monitor their actions at any time through military satellites. After advancing seven kilometers, in front of a skyscraper, they encountered a large swarm of moss flies. These creatures swarmed out of the building, blotting out the sky. Our military satellites could no longer monitor the situation either."

White sighed. "The battle must have happened around this time..."

The display then played video footage. Current military satellite imagery was incredibly clear—so clear that the individual moss flies were visible. They were the size of broad beans, resembling a hybrid of flies, mosquitoes, and bees, but entirely covered in moss-like fuzz. Their numbers were terrifying. When they flew out of the building, they resembled a vast cloud of emerald green smoke.

The ground team, realizing the danger, began retreating quickly while immediately using various weapons and skills to counterattack. But the moss flies rapidly covered an area tens of kilometers wide. Soon, all that remained visible was a dense, green fog.

The satellite feed froze at this point. About a dozen minutes later, the moss flies ascended high into the sky again, twisting into a green, smoke-like vortex that resembled a tornado before returning into the skyscraper.

On the ground below, the entire team had vanished. Any traces of the battle, such as craters, were rapidly being covered by the spreading moss...

Chen Gu was visibly shocked. "A team led by a Sixth Energy Level expert, composed entirely of professionals—wiped out that quickly?"

Chairman White looked deeply pained. "And we still don't know how these monsters fight. Moreover..."

He swiped his hand, and new data appeared on the display.

"Similar toxin nests are now appearing in the centers of three more cities on planet Jorls III. We are still fighting the moss virus for control of these three cities. The virus hasn't completely engulfed them, yet toxin nests have already surfaced. Our experts speculate that Dille City might have been a test site for the moss virus. Now that the test is over, we fear a full-scale assault is imminent. But we have no understanding of how these toxin nests function. We need you, Captain Chen, to help us find answers."

While Chen Gu was still pondering, Charles, who was standing behind him, spoke up. "Why Dille City? The toxin nests in the other three cities aren't fully developed and pose less of a threat. It should be easier to infiltrate those cities and find the intelligence we need." 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂

Chairman White considered this for a moment. "That's not out of the question."

Chen Gu, however, said, "I propose we dispatch a Close Range Attack Ship to bombard Dille City directly!"

After all, Dille City doesn't have anyone like Gascolin, whose presence would make Star State hesitate to use such overwhelming force.

Chairman White responded, "We're concerned the toxin nests might contain something like spores. If they're blasted open, these could scatter across the entire planet, creating an uncontrollable disaster."

Chen Gu shook his head. "If such things truly exist, wouldn't waiting for them to fully mature be even more dangerous?"

Chairman White frowned. "Well... I'll discuss this with the military."

The military, in fact, had been impatient for some time. Those firepower enthusiasts had been eager to bomb the city directly, especially after confirming no civilians remained alive. Now, with Chen Gu's backing, Chairman White's suggestion quickly gained widespread support when he presented it.

The military had a massive mothership in orbit around planet Jorls III. It acted swiftly, dispatching a Close Range Attack Ship.

Chen Gu, arms still crossed, watched the returning live feed.

The massive Close Range Attack Ship approached Dille City. It was a spectacular sight as its giant cannon extended and began to charge.

But even then, the moss on the ground below remained eerily silent. Not even the moss flies made an appearance.

"That's enough!" Chen Gu suddenly exclaimed to Chairman White. "Stop the military, now!"

"What?" Chairman White was bewildered.

"Sending the Close Range Attack Ship was just a probe," Chen Gu explained.

Chairman White was speechless. Then you could have just told me! Why were you so adamant about supporting a direct bombardment of the city with the Close Range Attack Ship just now?

Chen Gu elaborated, "Digital Group might have moles within our ranks, or they could have intercepted our communications. This was the only way to truly gauge the reaction of the moss toxin nests."

He urged, "Quickly! The moss virus is indifferent to the Close Range Attack Ship. This means one of two things: either it's completely unconcerned by this type of attack because it has countermeasures, or it's actually anticipating such an assault!"

"Alright." Chairman White hurried off.

The moss virus possessed intelligence; it wouldn't just sit idly by and await destruction. Its current indifference strongly suggested that the Digital Group, operating behind the scenes, had anticipated this and was well-prepared.
