Chapter 338: Chapter 277: No Result Is the Best Result

Anano then grabbed a vase and hurled it at him. The little lion, terrified, flinched and bolted out the door.

The commotion must have alerted Egarli Yalan, as he quickly returned. It was unclear what they said, but they fell into another argument.

The little lion cowered in a corner by the door, hiding in the shadows and listening silently to the familiar commotion inside the hall.

After an unknown amount of time, it was over.

He slowly crept back into the hall from the darkness, only to find them both gone. The floor was littered with shattered glass and porcelain. The flowers he had picked were crushed beyond recognition.

He circled the broken flowers several times, trying to piece them back together, but he found it was impossible.

His stomach still ached faintly. The little lion suddenly plopped onto the ground, covered his face, and began to sob. Crying, he ran to the council hall to find Egarli Yalan, seeking his father’s comfort.

When Egarli Yalan saw him, however, his anger only grew. "It’s all your fault, you failure! You can’t even awaken your Angel Bloodline. You’re not even as good as the child I adopted! What good are you?"

"You’re supposed to have the Angel Bloodline, aren’t you? It’s been this long, and still nothing!"

"Your aptitude is too low. That’s why your mother looks down on you. That’s why she doesn’t want you."

’So Mother’s attitude toward me changed so drastically because I couldn’t awaken my Angel Bloodline,’ the little lion thought.

Viewing Duotu’s timeline, Sang Luo learned that he had actually begun to awaken his Angel Bloodline long ago. But because of his parents’ deteriorating relationship, he never dared to tell them... She recalled the Duotu of the future, who truly bore no trace of the Angel Clan’s aura. Searching through his memories, she finally discovered why.

After enduring the pain of his wings sprouting and successfully awakening his Angel Bloodline, Duotu went to find Anano that very night. He wanted to share the good news with his mother, to have her be the first to witness this wonderful surprise.

When Anano saw his wings, she seemed to be in a daze for a long time.

For the first time in a long while, she held the little lion again. He thought his mother’s embrace was just as warm and soft as he remembered. But the heartwarming mother-son reunion he’d imagined never happened. Anano carried him to a small, dark room, tied him up, and, ignoring his cries and pleas for mercy, hacked off his wings with a knife.

She said,

"You mongrel! What makes you worthy?!"

Seeing this, Sang Luo finally understood. Duotu had publicly claimed back then that his aptitude was too low to awaken the Angel Bloodline. That wasn’t the truth. He once had it, but it had been stolen from him.

As she pieced together the two sets of memories, Sang Luo discovered something else. Anano hadn’t hidden her memories of Egarli Yalan. But she had hidden every memory of her son, burying them so deep that even she herself was unwilling to ever recall them.

Sang Luo took a look at Duotu’s later memories, where a young Caesar also appeared.

After Anano left, Duotu grew even more desperate for his father’s attention. He studied diligently and trained relentlessly, only to be outshone by Caesar every single time.

He couldn’t stand that an adopted son from another clan had earned his father’s high regard—and even received more attention and affection than he did.

On the surface, Egarli Yalan favored Caesar. In reality, however, all Male Beasts value their own biological children above all else, especially an only son. But the greater the expectation, the greater the disappointment. He was already furious that Duotu had failed to awaken his Angel Bloodline. The fact that the heir he had poured so many resources into couldn’t even measure up to a stray child from another clan made Egarli Yalan utterly disappointed in Duotu.

Whenever Duotu’s studies fell short of Caesar’s, Egarli Yalan would scold and punish him. Sometimes, he would even lock him in his room and whip him. Gradually, Duotu’s personality began to change. As a means of escape, he transferred his resentment for his father onto Caesar.

’This is all that outsider’s fault! If he had never shown up, Father wouldn’t treat me this way!’

In Duotu’s memories, he found Caesar utterly detestable in every way. Yet, he had no choice but to feign friendship and pretend to get along with him.

Eventually, he slowly grew to become another Egarli Yalan: deceitful and selfish.

Duotu had long wanted to kill Quan Jin.

As a child, on the pretense of playing, he secretly pushed Quan Jin into a river.

At the Hunting Ground, he "accidentally" wounded him with an arrow.

He hired assassins to kill him.

The attempts were countless.

But none of them ever succeeded.

After seeing these memories, Sang Luo understood. With or without her, Duotu would have made his move that day. Even if he could do it all over again, he still would have.

Then, she appeared in Duotu’s memories.

Sang Luo didn’t watch any further and withdrew her spiritual power.

When she opened her eyes, she found that Duotu had woken up at some point.

"Luoluo..."

He saw her turn to leave and, without even taking the time to change out of his undergarments, scrambled out of bed. His tall, yet slightly stooped frame, wrapped around her in a tight hug from behind.

"You came to see me. You still care about me, don’t you?"

"..."

"Luoluo, I didn’t lie to you. I really do love you..." Tears streamed down his face, soaking her shoulder. "Please, forgive me, won’t you? You can stab me in return. Once, twice—stab me as many times as you want to avenge Caesar. I’ll stand right here and won’t move. You can take my life."

"If I really wanted you dead, I wouldn’t have come today," Sang Luo sighed. "I came to save you because I don’t want our little lion to lose his father at such a young age."

"The little lion... yes, Hephis... He grew up without a mother. Fine clothes and fancy food can’t make up for the motherly love he’s missing. He misses you so much. He dreams about you often. Ever since he was small, he’s been envious of other cubs who have both a father and a mother, who can be doted on by their mothers, who have a life where the whole family eats together..."

"Are you using our child to threaten me?" Sang Luo’s tone turned cold. "Duotu, I don’t like to repeat myself, and I don’t like people who pester me relentlessly."

"I..." Duotu’s voice faded. "Luoluo, please don’t be annoyed. I just want to ask you one last time. If you refuse me, I will leave your world completely. I’ll never bother you again for the rest of my life."

"His Majesty Yalan is overstepping his bounds," Minos said, appearing in the hall.

He watched them embrace, his handsome brows furrowing slightly. His expression was calm, but inside, a wave of irritation was rising. His fingertips twitched. He extended a hand to Sang Luo and said, "Luoluo, our business here is finished. It’s time to go."

Sang Luo slowly pried Duotu’s hands away. "Then let me also say it one last time: I don’t love you anymore."

She continued, "There are some things I don’t want to state too plainly, or say too much about. I will only say this one last time... Duotu, do you understand?"

Duotu’s face went pale. He let his hands fall, defeated.

"I understand."

"I’m going outside to get some air." Sang Luo left the room.

Duotu slumped onto the edge of the bed. 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮

Minos walked over. "Your timeline and Luoluo’s will never again overlap in the future."

"Sometimes, having no resolution is the best resolution."
