Game World: I Can Share Talents-Chapter 49: I Am Simply Brilliant and Mighty
The Dragon Descendant servants of Gavin’s Alchemy were utterly humiliated by Westheid. Had it been a True Dragon dishing out the insults, they might have endured it. But to be bullied this way by a "lowly" human made the meager Dragon Blood in their veins boil.
Someone in the crowd was the first to throw a hammer, which zipped past Westheid’s cheek.
Westheid, the target of the attack, showed no signs of panic. He simply turned his head calmly and said:
"It seems the situation is clear. There are far more enemy agents than we imagined. It’s better to kill a thousand innocents than let a single one escape. Go on."
Reiya didn’t even need to give the order. The Giant Dragons were already enraged by the assault. 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦
No matter how much they disliked Westheid, he was a Star Fury favored by their master. For now, at least, he was their superior officer. ’How dare they attack him?’
’You’ve all rebelled!’
"ROAR—"
Following the deep roars, several Giant Dragons charged into the crowd and began a slaughter. Sharp claws and fangs tore through flesh, and iron-hard tails swept past, turning the mortals’ fragile bodies into splatters of paint and scattered parts.
The bloody massacre began without warning. Under the might of the True Dragons, the Dragon Descendant servants fell in droves like wheat, bursting like bubbles and dissolving into a pulpy mess.
"Kneel! You worthless mongrels! Slaves!"
It was all too easy for the mighty Giant Dragons to suppress the rioting crowd. Only after tens of thousands had been slaughtered did the panicked Dragon Descendant servants realize their masters were serious. The more they screamed and tried to flee, the more they were cut down.
They no longer dared to make a single unnecessary move, instead kneeling on the ground, heads in their hands, trembling.
It was a miserable sight, but strictly speaking, the Giant Dragons weren’t even taking it seriously. Otherwise, they could have easily slaughtered the entire population of several hundred thousand.
Westheid swaggered past, surveyed the devastated square, and waved his hand.
"We don’t have much time to waste, so there’s no time to carefully identify spies. But that’s fine. I possess a world-shaking wisdom for rooting them out."
"You! You were a second too slow to kneel! Why the hesitation? You must be a spy! Seize him!"
"And you! Why did you kneel so decisively?! You must be an enemy plant! Fortunately, I saw right through you. Seize him!"
"And all of you, why did you only kneel after seeing others do it? Just going with the flow, are we? So cunning and opportunistic. You must be highly trained agents, no doubt about it!"
"..."
Westheid then proceeded to demonstrate what it meant to be an expert spy-catcher. The efficiency and speed of his arrests were simply dumbfounding.
No matter how the Dragon Descendant servants proclaimed their innocence or tried to prove it, Westheid ignored them all. He silenced them, branded them, and sentenced them to death in one smooth, unbroken sequence.
’How hard is it to find an excuse to punish someone?’
The Giant Dragons carried out Westheid’s orders, crushing and executing batch after batch of Dragon Descendant servants. Anyone who showed even the slightest hint of dissatisfaction was torn to shreds.
The cruel and arrogant Demon Dragons couldn’t care less how loyal these slaves who shared their blood were supposed to be. Even though they knew most of the killings were mistakes... so what?
’They’re dead, so they’re dead. Besides, apart from their own kind, the True Dragons, all other life forms are just toys for the Dragon Race to play with as they please. Not to mention, we’re just following orders, so we bear no responsibility.’
Under such brutal and senseless devastation, the rare industrial base of Gavin’s Alchemy was nearly razed to the ground. Any Dragon Descendant with even a shred of spirit was now a dead soul under the True Dragons’ claws, and the remaining slaves were utterly broken.
Westheid saw that was about enough. Any more and he really would wipe out the entire population. He turned to the Giant Dragon Execution Officer and commanded:
"Take all the spies that are still alive and escort them to High Court. And the Alchemy Bombs—we can’t let those go to waste. Send them over, too. They’ll be useful in the coming war."
"Understood. However, these Alchemy Bombs haven’t been secured for transport yet. With this many, their destructive power is not to be underestimated. Is it wise to move them directly?"
Tudor said, bowing his head. The Giant Dragon Execution Officer, who had thoroughly enjoyed the slaughter, was still thirsty for more. As a result, his opinion of Westheid had improved considerably.
"What are you afraid of? Even if the Alchemy Bombs aren’t secured, their internal structure is very stable. This batch is remote-detonated, and the master switch is in Her Highness Reiya’s hands. Unless the enemy manages to snatch the switch from her, there’s no need to worry about the bombs going off... Or are you saying you lack the confidence to protect Her Highness?"
Westheid mounted his Dragon Beast and said coolly, glancing sideways.
Tudor shuddered and replied, "Of course not! As long as we draw breath, we will never allow any harm to come to Her Highness!"
"Then there’s no problem, is there? Relax. The ones who should be afraid are the scurrying rats, not us."
Westheid shrugged, leaving the cleanup to the Giant Dragon Execution Officer. Then he, along with Reiya and Yolanda, continued on their tour of inspection.
After they took flight, however, Westheid noticed the platinum-blonde girl beside him seemed sullen.
’That’s strange,’ he thought. ’After all, her brother has just achieved such a monumental feat.’
"Yolanda, why aren’t you saying anything?"
Yolanda said with a deadpan expression, "Brother, this foundry city has a population of roughly two hundred thousand. You just identified one hundred and eighty thousand of them as spies."
"Doesn’t that just prove how efficient I am and what great results I get?"
Westheid said, holding his head high with no small amount of pride, "I am truly wise and magnificent."
Yolanda sighed. "As much as I’d like to think of this as an act... I can’t help but feel you were being genuine, Brother."
The platinum-blonde girl was deeply worried. ’If Westheid’s style of ruling and management is really this horrifying, then I have to worry for the revival of the Qinghui Territory... With a Lord like him, what’s the point of reclaiming our homeland?’
’I can only hope it’s just my imagination, and that Westheid won’t be so... capricious... when governing his own territory.’
Next, Westheid and his retinue continued their inspection tour. Duke Qinghui had completely cast off all restraint and begun his campaign of tyranny.
His methods and actions included, but were not limited to:
Dispatching a Dragon Beast in advance to destroy a local storehouse, then immediately arriving with his entourage to demand access to its inventory.
"What? Why is there no inventory? A Dragon burned down the storehouse? Are you implying some True Dragon passed by and helped themselves to a snack? Goddammit, you’re trying to frame a True Dragon, aren’t you? A bunch of lawless, parentless mongrels! Slaughter them all!"
"They’re actually fighting back? No more hesitation! We must strike hard! Immediately! Now! Annihilate them!"
"Anyone who dares to voice a complaint is definitely an enemy spy!"
"..."
He also engaged in local extortion, directly initiating a "war tax" and levying brutal, exorbitant taxes:
"There’s a tax for exhaling, a tax for inhaling, and a tax for not eating or drinking."
"This is all for the war effort against the enemy. The entire population must make sacrifices. Let the common folk suffer a little; consider it a show of loyalty to the Dragon Race."
"What? You can’t do it? How could you possibly not be able to do it?"
"Reflect on your own shortcomings. It’s just skipping two or three meals a day. Use your guts and willpower to overcome it! If you starve to death, it’s because your loyalty to the Dragon Race wasn’t strong enough! Your willpower was too weak! You’re a traitor to the nation!"
"..."
The easiest jobs were the towns where a Trial Taker was discovered hiding. He didn’t even need to invent an excuse. He just eliminated the Trial Taker and then used their dropped items to build his case:
"Goddammit! Spies from the Celestial Vault Kingdom are already operating this brazenly? How dare they be so audacious right under our noses?"
"I have ample reason to suspect this entire town has been corrupted by enemy agents. We must conduct a thorough search for spies. If necessary, we’ll raze it to the ground. We must purge the enemy’s corruption and ensure the purity of our Dragon Realm."
"What do you mean ’no’?! We found an undeniable Celestial Vault People spy right here in your city, yet none of you know where he came from? Are you taking us for fools? Goddammit, you must have all been turned by spies! The other settlements along this route are also highly suspicious. They must be thoroughly purged!"
"Air cavalry, move out!"
