Chapter 146: Something very serious has happened

He ran so hard that even Jenna found it hard to keep up with him. But the three of them ran behind at full speed as well.

"Which way is he running?" Jake asked, quizzical as he watched from behind.

Jenna shook her head. "It’s the outside...but there’s only the cemetery in that area." She spoke.

"The cemetery? What’s he running there for?"

"I don’t know..." She tried to run even harder to catch up with him, but he was moving nimbly over buildings and houses.

He was experienced at this. It was hard to catch up even for Jake, who was stronger.

Soon they were out of town, and as Jenna had expected, he entered the cemetery.

When they reached him, he was stunned...

In front of him were two graves.

But...

They were open.

And inside, there was nothing.

Jake frowned and looked around.

"There are marks that someone opened them."

Jenna put a hand to her mouth in disbelief. Her mother was in shock, too.

"They violated a grave to take out the corpse inside? This is..."

"A capital crime."

"Even the King penalizes it heavily, and the Great Gods have forbidden this to be done vehemently. Who the hell dared this?" Rebecca asked.

Jake frowned. ’The House of Fire would dare do something like this? Are they idiots? While it’s true that it’s easy to cover these things up, what the hell are they looking to do with dead bodies?’ He frowned.

Then he saw the names inscribed on the tombstones.

And he frowned even more.

’...Shit.’ He was furious.

He could remember the name of his good friend’s wife and daughter as well. This was serious.

’Very serious.’ He reached over and put a palm on Elliot’s shoulder.

"Don’t hold back if you want revenge. They have committed a cardinal sin, punishable by the gods. You have the upper hand." He said, suddenly.

Elliot looked up. His eyes were blood red from the fury that raced in his heart.

"I don’t plan to hold back." He said hoarsely. Then he looked at the empty graves. "House of Fire... Clark..." He gritted his teeth without trying to swallow the anger.

But his mind glowed with only one thought at the moment: death.

He wants to tear them apart.

Not only did they kill them, but they also dared to violate their graves!

Shit.

He was extremely angry.

He turned around and looked at Jake.

"I’ll be visiting Agora much earlier than planned." He said with a forced smile and walked heavily away.

Jenna couldn’t bear to see him like that, so she ran after him without telling her parents.

They watched them leave from afar.

"Will you do something?" Rebecca asked.

Jake nodded.

"Yes. Too bad we’re already far away from politics in Tanafler. From here, they won’t be able to hear us too much. But at least I think I can do something."

"Well, I think, at this point, he’ll appreciate any help you can give him."

"Sigh. I guess so." He looked once more at the graves. "Some ritual, huh?"

"Can you tell whose footprints are here? They haven’t even made an effort to hide them."

"Lots of humans and an Elf."

"An Elf?" Rebecca, who had crouched down to study the footprints, looked up. "Participating in a ritual?"

"Haha, Elves are no saints, my dear. You’d be surprised how mean they can get."

"Sigh. I guess how they sell them in the movies is silly."

"Hahahahaha. In the movies, they sell humans as great heroes who fight the beasts to protect the populace. But so far, there’s only one among all the humans in this world who has done that. And look at the end he got." He sighed.

"They don’t even respect the graves of his relatives." He shook his head helplessly and continued. "That’s the kind of bastards they show on TV. Heroes behind a script and a screen. Scumbags in reality."

Then he started walking.

"Let’s get going. We’ve got things to do, and those guys will probably be here soon to cover the tracks."

----

"Are you sure about your decision?" Anna, who was facing Elliot, asked.

"I am." He answered firmly, though he sighed.

"Master Anna," he continued. "I know you are just trying to be nice to me, and because you see a great future in my talent. I asked Jenna about it, and we think we are both not the type of people who can train behind closed doors for so long. Our path we want to pave for ourselves; we don’t want someone else to pave it for us, " he stated firmly.

Anna nodded. She planned to speak, but he said again.

"Don’t misunderstand me. We will go to the Runic Kingdom in the future, when the time is right. But for now, we want to continue on our way. Besides, this thing that happened cannot go unpunished. They violated my family’s grave and took their remains. This...this is unforgivable."

"I know that, if I go with you, I will come back and flatten them in three or four years. But three or four years is a long time. I don’t know if I can stand it."

Anna smiled. "Doing that means they have the backing of the Kingdom and very powerful people. Do you think you can do anything on your own?"

"No." He shook his head. "I don’t think I’m enough to make a difference in the whole kingdom."

"Then?"

"I don’t want to make a difference in the whole kingdom. It’s enough for me to rescue the bodies of my family. And the House of Fire of Agora isn’t powerful enough to stop me from doing that."

"Sigh." She sighed. "I suppose with your current strength, you can surely do something. But this won’t depend on your strength. Those people have one of the most powerful ministers in the Kingdom behind them, so don’t think your current strength is enough for everything."

"I know." He said.

She smiled then.

"Your mind must play a key role in making it. If you want to do it with your current outside, overwhelm them with intelligence and tactics. Start from the bottom. Maraud them. Prevent them from understanding what you intend to do. Go for the branches. That’s the only way you can pull it off." She patted him on the shoulder.

"Mental strength is more important than physical strength. A weak Sage can rule a nation and make it powerful. But a strong brute simply commands respect with his fists. Before a stronger one, he will be just another useless one. He cannot rule, merely instill fear. His nation will soon go to ruin."

After that, she walked toward the door. "I will wish you luck, since you called me Master. Take care of yourself, don’t let a talent like yours die here. It would be most unfortunate."

Elliot could only smile, for she was gone when he planned to respond.

But he looked straight ahead.

"Time for me to go." He whispered.

When he went to his apartment, Jenna was already waiting for him with their bags packed.

"My parents already left." She spoke.

It was early morning hours on the 24th.

"She can still give you a chance to recruit you for closed-door training if you look her up now." He said suddenly.

But she shook her head.

"If I wanted that kind of life, we wouldn’t even have met, Elliot. I’d be living in Tanafler. I’d be in the custody of some great guild, and I’d be a great lady of the kingdom. But that’s not what I want. Being known for being talented and not for your exploits is useless, I don’t want that."

Elliot smiled, "I guess you’re right. Then I guess we’ll be the first to turn down something like that."

"I guess that in itself is a feat."

They didn’t talk further. Grabbing their suitcases, they went to the building’s parking lot where a rental driver was already waiting for them.

To avoid attracting attention, they simply rented a random driver from the city to make the trip to Agora.

That same morning, they left.

Of the guild, only three were notified of this.

Anna, Steward, and Andrew.

It was a truly secret trip.

-

From a distance, Anna and Steward watched them leave.

"This is the first time anyone has ever turned down the proposal to be trained behind closed doors by a guild with a Saint as its leader." Anna said suddenly. "You think that’s a feat?"

"Haha... treating them, maybe it’s the smallest feat they’ll accomplish."

"You trust them that much?"

"Of course." He replied with certainty. "I’m sure I’ll see them grow up. The only thing that worries me is that the world already knows we have a summoner. I’m afraid he’ll face all sorts of dangers."

"Well... A God has never been able to reach that milestone peacefully. Whether or not he is worthy, to reach that mythical rank, only his determination to survive and be strong will tell."

"You are right, Lady Anna."
