Chapter 790

“It’s another team.”

Nicole and Tian Lie saw two dots on their personal radars. This meant that there were either Awakened ones or Players who had entered a state of combat.

“They must also be targeting this place for intel gathering. They’ve chosen to forcibly charge in.” Tian Lie rubbed his chin, an envious look in his eyes. “Damn it! I should have attacked just now.”

“What is it? You are still thinking of getting involved here?” Nicole gave Tian Lie a cold glance.

Tian Lie hesitated for a moment before shaking his head. “Forget it. We have already found the location of the meteorite. If we head there now, it will probably take us around one hour to reach. As for this place, with the other teams attacking, a high number of soldiers will come here soon. It would be troublesome if we get entangled here.”

“Your head is finally working like normal a little.” Nicole nodded in satisfaction. Stepping on the gas pedal, she drove the car forward. “Let’s go!”

“Found it!”

Xia Xiaolei had been sitting on the sofa with his head hung down and his eyes closed. Suddenly, his eyes snapped open and he said in a hushed tone.

“Direction? Distance? Level?”

Roddy quickly asked.

They had long since taken off their regular clothes and changed into their protective suits, ready to set off at any time.

“Southeast, five kilometres.” Xia Xiaolei stood up. “There are five people. Two of them used [B] class skills and one used an [A] class skill. As for the other two, they might be participating in battle using weapons.”

Xia Xiaolei had the innate skill, Extrasensory Perception. By consolidating it into his personal radar, the detection range would increase from the usual one kilometre to ten kilometres. At the same time, it can also display the level of the skills used by the detected targets.

“The highest one is only at [A] class. It’s not that problematic.” Roddy smiled confidently.

“Then, let’s move out! Head there first. After confirming their strength, begin operation to capture them.”

“Hurry! Hurry! Hurry! Do it quickly!”

A Player in a thick and heavy metal armour and a stout-looking face was scanning his surroundings vigilantly.

Before him was a thin youngster sporting a pair of goggles. The youngster was tapping the keyboard of a computer.

Inside the office, corpses could be seen strewn all over the place. Most of them wore work clothes. Outside the office, however, many of the corpses wore military garb. They were soldiers assigned to guard duty.

Aside from the two, there were three other team members, each keeping watch at one of the corners of the office space. They aimed their guns at the doors and windows, places where enemies might appear. All of them were focused on keeping watch over their surroundings.

“I’m already doing my best, boss!” the thin youngster snickered.

“The defence level of the US Army’s military network is very average. But why are you so anxious? The guards in a research base like this will not be very strong. More, we’ve already killed off most of them. Even if reinforcements come, should we be scared?”

“The reinforcements are not the problem here. It’s the other teams.” The armoured man shook his head. “Although this is not a competitive-type instance dungeon, there is no guarantee that other teams will not raid us. Hurry it up! Once we obtain the location of the meteorite, we’ve leave!”

“Alright! Found it!” The thin youngster pressed the Enter key forcefully and looked at the screen.

“Alien meteorite crash landed… Greendale… departure time…”

“Argh!”

A ray of bloody light suddenly flashed out.

A Player who was standing between two windows cried out wretchedly as a sharp and invisible blade cut him from his crotch all the way up to his head, cleaving him into two. The protective suit he wore became like a piece of rag, incapable of stopping even a single attack before it was utterly cut.

The spilled blood created the outline of an invisible human figure standing in front of him.

“Enemy attack!”

The armoured man reacted instantaneously, his fist punching in the direction of his killed teammate.

The air in front of his fist suddenly compressed before blasting forward like a cannon.

The thin youngster turned around. As he was pulling out two laser pistols, his whole body suddenly fell to the ground before sliding backwards. It wasn’t until he reached a pillar did his body rose back up in a weird manner. His arms swept outwards and the muzzles of his pistols gave his front a 180-degree coverage.

Qimu Xi flipped, evading the air blast. The corpse behind her, on the other hand, was smashed to pieces along with the wall.

Another Player, this one sporting blue hair, punched the ground to raise a wall of ice before him.

A clear ringing sound rang out. As the wall of ice was rising, the two short swords that Qimu Xi used to perform a cross slash stabbed into the ice wall. The short swords were extremely sharp and they easily pierced into the ice wall. Due to their length, however, they could not fully penetrate the ice wall.

“Caught them!”

The blue-haired Player cried out in surprise and joy.

The two short swords were stuck inside the ice wall and Qimu Xi stopped moving. At the same time, her invisibility effect disappeared as well to reveal her figure.

Suddenly, several icicles emerged from the ice wall before shooting towards Qimu Xi.

Although this enemy possessed a very high speed, her short swords were now stuck in the ice wall. In order to evade the icicles, she would have to give up on her weapons.

The other Players had quickly pulled out their weapons. The armoured man, their leader, was once again charging up, ready to fire out an even stronger punch.

But Qimu Xi did not dodge at all.

As the icicles were about to make contact with her body, several beams of light suddenly shot out from the aisle beyond the rear door, melting and vaporizing the icicles away.

Xia Xiaolei abruptly smashed his way through the wall of the aisle from the main entrance side. He then hurriedly strode towards the office.

His whole body was covered in a layer of carapace-like bio armour. The armour protected every inch of his body and even his eyes looked like a pair of crystals.

There was a bio crystal on each of his palms and he fired out several beams of light with them. The beams of light melted and created several big holes on the ice wall and Qimu Xi was able to pull out her short swords.

Two laser pistols and a heavy machine gun turned towards them at the same time.

Qimu Xi swiftly evaded, jumping out through a window.

Xia Xiaolei, on the other hand, continued to charge towards the room. In the face of the incoming bullets and energy beams, all he did was stretch his hands to protect his head and face. He did not stop moving forward.

As the bullets and energy beams bombarded him, tens of tendrils swiftly grew out from his arms, swirling around in two directions to form two shields that protected his upper body. Even though the attacks had inflicted countless wounds and scorch marks on his body, not a drop of blood fell from him.

Light flashed and two giant wolves suddenly appeared in front of him. Opening their big mouths, each of them fired out a stream of electricity the width of a water bucket.

The streams of electricity struck Xia Xiaolei’s body, stopping his momentum and badly scorching his upper body.

The moment the streams of electricity dissipated, however, the injuries on his body recovered rapidly. Before the two giant wolves could fire out a second wave of electric attack, the terribly charred parts of Xia Xiaolei’s body had almost fully recovered.

Three tendrils emerged from his right arm, swirling into one and hardening to become a spear, several metres in length.

Stab!

The spear pierced the mouth of the first giant wolf with lightning-like speed, going all the way through to its tail.

Xia Xiaolei’s left palm promptly opened to reveal the bio crystal once again.

A beam of light shot out from the crystal. With a sweeping motion, it cut the second giant wolf’s waist, cleaving it into two.

“What?!”

The thin youngster shrieked in misery, his face pale.

The two electric-type magic wolves were his War Beasts. Although their initial class was not high, they had gone through several devouring and evolution processes. Thus, they possessed considerable combat power. And yet, they were killed in an instant.

Boom!

Suddenly, the floor broke as a Sentinel mech charged into the room from the lower floor. The war blade on its right arm swept outwards.

“A Sentinel mech?!”

The leader of the team, the armoured man, had only just finished up charging when he saw the Sentinel mech jumping in through the floor. His fist, which was meant to shoot towards Xia Xiaolei, turned by half a circle to punch towards the Sentinel mech instead.

For a team to own a Sentinel mech, be they Players or Awakened ones, they were surely not weaklings.

Before this, the armoured man had carefully considered the possibility of them becoming the hunted. Unexpectedly, the enemy would come so quickly.

More, they were also so strong!

Fortunately, the Sentinel mech appeared just as he was done fully charging up his attack.

He punched with all his strength and the air in front of his fist compressed into – visible to the naked eye – a small ball of highly condensed air. The ball of air then shot towards the Sentinel mech.

A massive shockwave erupted against the Sentinel mech, shaking the entire building. As a result, the Sentinel mech was pushed several metres back.

Seeing that, however, instantly caused the expression on the armoured man’s face to sink.

The Sentinel mech had taken his full-powered attack head on, but it was not damaged in the slightest.

He knew very well just how strong his Mountain Quaker Blow was. Its biggest drawback was that it needed too long to fully charge up. But once fully charged, the power of its attack was astonishingly high. Even if it could not utterly demolish a Sentinel mech, it would be able to partially destroy it. At the very least, it would incapacitate it temporarily.

This Sentinel mech… there was something different about it.

But the armoured man had no time to ponder the issue. After his punch pushed the Sentinel mech away by several metres, the Sentinel mech rapidly raised its right arm to fire a line of bullets at him.

At the same time, Xia Xiaolei had also made his way into the Players’ formation.

Wriggling, the tendrils from his right hand transformed from a spear to a giant axe before sweeping outwards. The blue-haired Player raised both his hands – equipped with bracers – to block. Instantly, he let out a wretched cry as the giant axe sent him flying.

In that collision, his [B+] class high-grade alloy bracers only managed to release a clump of faint blue light before the attack tore open two deep cuts through them. The blade of the axe also made its way through the layer of protective suit beneath the bracers, cutting into his two arms halfway.

When the faint blue light burst out, however, it also covered the giant axe with a layer of frost.

After freezing the giant axe, the layer of frost did not stop. Instead, it continued to extend downwards. The rapid thermal expansion and contraction caused non-stop crackling sounds.

Xia Xiaolei’s entire face and even his eyes were covered by crystals. Thus, there was no way to see his expression. He lowered his head and gave his right arm a glance. Seeing the layer of frost continuing to spread, a crystal on his left arm swiftly transformed into a sharp blade before severing his right arm.

The severed right arm and the giant axe that were completely frozen smashed against the ground and shattered to powdery bits.

But countless bits of flesh protruded from the severed part of Xia Xiaolei’s right arm, swirling and intersecting as they rapidly grew.

Another nearby Player held a heavy machinegun, which he used to fire frantically at Xia Xiaolei. However, the bullets only managed to penetrate a few centimetres into Xiao Xiaolei’s body before the wriggling bio armour ejected them out.

Then… blood splattered.

A blurry figure flashed into the room from one of the windows there.

One slash.

The blade cut through the protective suit to cleave open the Player’s belly.

It had just been tens of seconds, but Qimu Xi had circled around the building and launched a sudden attack from a window situated on the other side.

On another side, the armoured man, who was also the leader of this team, had already begun dashing towards another window like crazy.
