Genetic Extra In The Apocalypse-Chapter 73: Plus hundred percent!
DING!
[ANNOUNCEMENT: Congratulations to participant Sean Storme, for being the first to kill a Stage-3 out-worlder]
[REWARDS: +100% to all current points]
A blonde girl, and a redhead had their backs facing the other’s, as they mowed down the few remaining out-worlders of the horde that had almost drowned them.
On one side, orange flames raged, burning so hot it warped the air, scorching everything in its path until there was nothing but charred corpse left.
On the other side, bolts of lightning zipped from the blonde girl, striking the remaining stragglers and killing them off with one hit each, until what was left, was scattered corpses.
Some had their heads completely deformed, some broken, to the point where some had just bone fragments left on their necks. Some others had their bodies charred or blown apart particularly around the chest.
"Is this guy a lunatic?"
Emma’s attention was pulled to the man behind her, and the lightning flickering over her body, receded.
She turned around with a raised brow and seeing him look at his wrist, she raised her’s to her eye level, reading the announcement on the wrist watch strapped to it.
Her pupils constricted into pinholes.
"Stage-3!!" She exclaimed.
"I know right? Pure lunatic!" Blaze confirmed, his usually apathetic eyes shining... Like a child watching a TV program.
Emma continuously stared at the announcement, as though hoping it would change into something more believable. Sadly, reality didn’t work that way, and she wasn’t dreaming.
"How is this possible?" She muttered.
The image of a young arrogant boy, with white hair that resembled snow locks, surfaced in her mind.... His arrogant provocation, the way he remained unfettered against the pressure of her entire family.
Even how he shattered their combined electric field like it was nothing... As though before his might, none of them were worthy of doing anything.
The way he defeated Julian, handling him like an adult putting a child in their place.
But none of that suggested he could do something like that. From what she had studied about him then, he didn’t seem to be someone that possessed close to enough strength, to survive a Stage-3 out-worlder, talk of killing one.
In fact, he had felt she had a very high chance of beating him... Except that he would force her to get serious.
The same person now, was who was announced to have killed a Stage-3.
She hadn’t even been aware that this exam involved a Stage-3.
’Did he have help?’
She wanted to believe so, but the possibility seemed so far of a stretch. Not only was it difficult to find other students, but to find one crazy enough to fight a Stage-3 with him, wasn’t plausible in her head.
If he had indeed had help, against Stage-3, any help from someone weaker than himself, would just be a detriment, unless there were in large numbers. And even that, had limits on how far it could go.
After the explosion, where the out-worlders began to attack in hordes—just like the one they had just finished clearing out, even numbers became a liability, if they lacked power.
Blaze studied Emma from the corner of his eyes, and couldn’t help but shake his head.
He honestly couldn’t understand their obsession with being strong, being in control, being the best and things of the sort, when all he wanted to do was do something else asides all that.
He sighed.
"We should get going," he said, pulling Emma out of her thoughts.
Emma nodded absentmindedly, a rare reaction from someone like her who was always sharp. As a person with affinity for sound, this made that character trait, extend beyond just a behavior, to something encoding down to her cells.
"He could’ve gotten help... Or maybe not. Either way, we’d never know till we leave this Gate..." He paused, his eyes flicking upwards as though he just thought of something.
"Most probably, the exams would’ve been called off. They can’t let us continue without supervision. If we start finding the exit now, then we can live early.
The statement was something he believed was true, but was actually fueled by his laziness.
"Hah..." Emma sighed. "You’re right."
There was truth in his words, and though it was easy to be fooled by his laziness and quite the humourous nature, Emma knew he was intelligent in his own right.
Her ears twitched, and she picked up the sound of dissonant footsteps. Some were orderly and human, while a few others, were completely haggard.
"People are coming," she warned, and Blaze raised his head up, pushing his senses to the limits, till he picked up on the footsteps.
"They’re coming here," she said again.
The both of them stood in their place, and before long, a group of mechs and automatons, rode into view, some of them holding students.
Amongst the said students, was one that was particularly a darker skinned boy with black hair, and burn wounds all over his body.
Although she didn’t recognize who he was, something told her that she had seen him before.
One of the mechs opened up, revealing a young man in military uniform within, who quickly acknowledged them.
"Miss Emma... Master Blaze."
While Emma did not show any relation to their presence, Blaze yawned loudly.
"Are you here to retrieve us?" He asked.
The young mech pilot nodded. "Yes."
"Good." Blaze nodded, and quickly broke off from Emma, towards the group.
His steps paused when he came before a black haired boy, who seemed to particularly have burns all over his body.
His expression contorted into a grimace, as he imagined what the young man must have gone through, to sustain all those burns.
The boy’s eyes looked completely lifeless, and his mind was not present... Shoulders slouched and mouth open, his breath heated.
Noticing his curiosity, the mech pilot spoke.
"He seems to be in a state of shock. His mind has shut down, but his body is still awake, and responsive..."
Blaze nodded, and immediately took his mind off the boy.
He turned his head over his shoulders, to Emma’s who was still intently staring at the boy.
"You coming or what?" He asked.
