Getting Married to a Yandere Princess-Chapter 69: Ch : The Journey Begins
The sun hadn't completely risen above the horizon. The fields had misty droplets dripping from the blades of green grasses as they made the ground wet.
In the faint visibility of the winter morning, a dozen carriages were lined up in front of the Southern Isikolo.
These carriages were rode by horses and had exquisite designs that hinted at the luxurious lives led by the owners of these carriages.
They were in fact sent by the various nobles as a sign of generosity to pick up the trainee Sihapis. The annual budgets of all the four Isikolos combined was a lot lesser than the annual budget of any academy from the Citadel, where the trainee Legions resided. And this generosity could thus be seen as a small compensation.
Shivering slightly in the cold while rubbing his hands against each other, David looked from one carriage to the other. 'Horses are a rare species, having faced near extinction from decades of wars. So it's not surprise that they treat them as valuable materials.'
Being an early bird, today was no different. Even though he would have preferred if he could have gotten some more sleep. Yesterday, he didn't train till midnight but in exchange, he called his sister
to the side and made her memorise a whole bunch of instructions.
Some of them had been pure common sense. At one point, David had felt as if he was lecturing and pestering a little child with thousands of instructions. But to his surprise, the nameless girl had listened through it all with a serious face and hadn't complained at all.
So here he was, waiting for others so that he could board the carriage. Earlier he had tried to reason with a nearby Master to let him sit in one of the carriages, which would have been a lot better than standing out in the cold.
But all he received was a dry answer, "Denied. The drivers aren't here and are being served breakfast at the dorms. And what if you do some kind of damage while you are all alone inside the carriages? Those horses cost upto a fortune. So no, I absolutely can't trust a few specific students in this case."
David didn't need to be told twice who this specific students
were. It was them, members of Claw Zamian.
But of course, he wasn't going to argue over something like that, let alone with a Master.
A while later, he noticed a bunch of trainees heading his way. Talking in excited voices, they passed him, obviously looking for someone to ask permission to enter the carriages.
David stepped back a little, entering the safety of the thick walls and watched in amusement as the same Master who had denied him entry was now welcoming the others in a tone befitting a mentor.
He even looked around and exclaimed with a slight frown, "Where did that nameless slave go to? These Zamian members are so indisciplined." He sighed, as if already lamenting for their future.
The trainees, who were all from different claws, reacted by nodding their heads. One of them informed the Master, "We noticed him before. He was standing right here. Seems he went away; such a small patience."
David felt a bitterness inside him. Knowing others judged their group was one thing but seeing someone actually make mocking comments about them was a different experience. He couldn't just not let the words affect him inside.
Suddenly, he felt a hand clasp his shoulder bone and pull him to the side. Alerted, David looked behind him.
Master Zamian stood with a solemn face as he asked, "Why are you eavesdropping on them? That's not polite."
"I just happened to be nearby..." David muttered an excuse, which wasn't entirely false either. But more than that, he kept his voice measured.
Afterall, he was talking to a man who followed the policy of appeasement to a great extent. And definitely liked to keep a hierarchy in his claw.
Although David himself wasn't at equal terms with such policies of Zamian, at the same time he couldn't deny the effect it had on him till now.
"Just happened to be lurking huh?" Then with a glance at the walls as if he was seeing through it, he said. "You know you are really unlucky. To be born in such a lower bloodline and to serve the very empire that had declared your bloodline cheap... it's such a cruel work of fate."
David felt his face scrunch up in confusion. He couldn't see where Master Zamian was leading to with his conversation.
Not being able to hold his curiosity, David asked. "Why say such obvious things?"
Zamian looked at him with a melancholic smile. "Would you be happy if I told you are the hardest working student I have ever had under me?"
"That would be a great compliment." David agreed.
Zamian opened his mouth to say something but then closed it with a slow shake of his head. He patted David's shoulders as he advised, "Follow the same path you are on...Maybe one day, you shall save everyone from my claw."
Hearing such an ambiguous sentence puzzled David to no end. Was Zamian asking him to be strong enough to take care of his clawmates? It was the only conclusion he was able to come to.
Zamian meanwhile, started walking back to the Isikolo. "I won't be able to see you all leave. So on my behalf, wish them luck. And most importantly, come back alive. I need to eliminate someone amongst you sooner or later, but I would prefer I do it later. Not sooner." His voice lowered to soft murmurings as he disappeared from view.
'What was all that about?' The more he watched the guy, the more confused and uncertain David grew.
However, the main question that haunted him at that moment was: "What are Zamian's intentions?"

The day turned out to be slightly cloudy, hiding the sun behind the thick covers of the darkening clouds.
"Move faster, we don't have all day. The exam starts tomorrow, so they all need to settle in the estates by tonight."
David had finally been able to climb the carriage that would be heading towards House Lorraine along with a plenty other locations.
He was lucky enough to get a sit by one of the doors, from where he could gaze outside for the entire journey, isolating himself from the rest of the people inside.
The space inside looked like it could accommodate twelve people easily. But somehow, fifteen people were already seated inside. And from what David could see, there were plenty of others still waiting outside.
Obviously, Jack Bell and Drew had already settled inside the carriage he was in.
Jack had given him a small wave of his hand in acknowledgement and since Drew had never talked with David, there had been no greetings from him. And neither did David make an attempt to introduce himself to Drew with others present.
At that moment, he caught a glimpse of the nameless girl being led to her carriage. Their eyes met for a passing moment as David mustered the sweetest smile possible.
Seeing that, the girl's lips curved in delight and her eyes lightened up. She waved both her hands in farewell before following her carriage driver.
Internally, David laughed a little. He would be lying if he said he wouldn't be missing her at all. Being with her from the time he had transmigrated, he has naturally grown attached to her.
And on top of that, she called him her elder brother. Which only sweetened their relationship.
Suddenly, his eyes dimmed lightly. A certain figure from back on Earth appeared in his mind.
'I wonder how she is doing...'
