Getting spoiled in a woman dominating world-Chapter 86: One eye?
Chapter 86: One eye?
Brandon leaned forward slightly "Alright... here," he said, tapping a line toward the middle of the page.
"This one. ’The chains of balance shall loosen. The Three Pillars shall tremble.’ What are the Three Pillars?"
Valiene leaned closer, close enough that he could feel the warmth of her presence and the light brush of her sleeve against his arm.
Her gaze narrowed slightly "I am not very sure either... But I think The Three Pillars are symbolic representations of the Church’s foundation: Doctrine, Bloodline, and Divinity."
"They represent the laws, the chosen vessels, and the spiritual force of Rhéanne. If they tremble, it suggests a disruption across every level of what holds our world together."
Brandon let out a low exhale, "So me existing... already started shaking those?"
Hm? Hearing this, she thought for a second "Wait... Lord Herald, now that you say it. Your awakening already cracked the first Pillar—Doctrine."
"Because you’re not supposed to exist. A man with ether? A male Herald? It breaks the laws written in flame and echoed for a thousand years."
He stared at the line again, then tossed the parchment lightly on the stack in front of him, slouching back against the couch. "Fuck that..."
Valiene turned toward him, one leg folding slightly beneath her as she shifted her posture "How can you give up already, My Lord."
With a sigh, she spoke "But... I do understand. It’s a headache to decipher these overnight, especially when theologians and Supreme Pontiffs have spent generations trying to and still failed."
Brandon glimpsed at her and saw that she is less formal now and is speaking with him casually "You’re different when you’re not in that hall."
Surprise flickered in her eyes as she muttered "What do you mean?"
"I.. don’t know how to say it. You feel more real and human when you speak so casually like this."
Valiene blinked, clearly caught off-guard.
She opened her mouth, then closed it again, visibly unsure how to respond.
"I didn’t mean that as an insult," Brandon added quickly.
"I mean, it’s not your fault; the church probably taught you to be that way. All I’m saying is, I like this version of you more."
She just looked at him for a moment, and then she lowered her gaze.
He turned his body slightly toward her, their knees almost touching "You said you studied all this since you were a child. Did you ever... I don’t know, want something else?"
Valiene’s lips curved faintly "Wanting and choosing are luxuries I was never taught to entertain."
Brandon tilted his head. "That’s not an answer."
She blinked for a second and let out a sigh before speaking "Yes. I used to wonder what it would be like to live outside the Sanctum."
"To walk through the city without a veil. To read books that weren’t about law or divine prophecy. To... talk to people without titles."
Brandon smiled faintly. "That’s not such a wild dream."
"No," she agreed.
"But for me, it was."
The room fell quiet again.
The faint hum of the heater and the rustle of parchment pages were the only sounds echoing in the air.
He looked into her blue eye "I am quite curious... why do you keep your right eye covered?"
Hearing this question, she was flustered for a moment before she replied "I am blind in my right eye..."
"It was fine until I turned twenty. But when I awakened... my genesis mark appeared over my right eye. Ever since then, it’s been nonfunctional."
Huh? Brandon was amazed to hear this, as he has seen the genesis mark on thigh, back and even for him, on his chest.
Coughing slightly, he asked "Can I see the mark?"
With careful fingers, she reached up and untied the silk band wrapped around her head.
As the cloth fell away, Brandon saw her right eye... a milky white iris with faint threads of silver tracing out from the pupil in delicate fractal patterns.
At the center of the iris, her genesis mark shimmered faintly with pale violet light.
Brandon’s eyes widened slightly as it felt amazing to look at.
"It looks... beautiful."
Her lashes lowered shyly at the praise. But just as she went to lower the eyepatch again...
Huh? Valiene was shocked... because she can see Brandon with her right eye.
What?
When she said she became blind, she didn’t completely become blind; she lost the ability to perceive colors and all she could see were white lines, tracing the shape of things.
But amidst the white lines, only he is colorful.
The couch, the papers, everything is white line... but only he is colorful.
W-What?
Brandon saw the shock in her face and was confused "What happened?"
Valiene lifted her hand slowly, as if touching something invisible in the air "When I said I went blind... I didn’t mean complete darkness."
"I lost the ability to perceive the world in color. All I can see is outlines. Like glowing white lines... tracing the shape of things. The couch. The walls. You..."
"But you are in color. I can see you even with my right eye."
Her voice trembled "Everything else is faded. But you... you’re vivid. Radiant. Like you’re burning inside the lines of the world."
Brandon didn’t know what to say.
Valiene stared at him as if seeing a miracle.
Her hand hovered near his shoulder, not quite touching but trembling faintly.
"I’ve never... seen anyone like this before," she whispered.
As if the eye that lost the world had been waiting for him to appear.
And now... it finally saw.
With a sigh, Brandon spoke "Maybe you can see because my ether energy is different and I am an anomally..."
She lowered her gaze "Maybe..."
Brandon looked at her because, without the thing covering her face, she looks even more beautiful.
"Valiene," he said after a pause. "Do you want to put it back on?"
She hesitated as her fingers brushed the black silk lying beside her, but then slowly shook her head.
"No, I want to see you like this... for a little longer."
Brandon’s gaze softened and he gently picked up another scroll, holding it up between them. "Alright. One more verse before we call it a night."
Valiene nodded, inching just a little closer, her thigh grazing his as she leaned over to look. "Which one?"
His voice lowered slightly, "When the Path of Flame opens, the wing shall burn."
"You said earlier this might mean sacrifice. What’s the ’wing’?"
Valiene’s gaze lingered on the verse, then lifted to meet his eyes. "No one agrees on that. Some say it refers to the Aberrants. Others... think it means someone close to the Herald. A companion. Someone who will be consumed by the fire the Herald awakens."
Brandon’s gaze squinted "Someone who’ll be sacrificed... because of me?"
With a sigh, she lowered her head "Forgive me, I am not sure of it."
Hearing this, Brandon placed the page back on the table and leaned back on the couch "Hmm... let’s call it a day."
Valiene nodded her head and began to arrange the stuff scattered on the table.
She then reached down to pick up the black silk eye and held it loosely in her fingers as she began to rise from the couch.
She tied the blindfold back over her eye easily and glanced down at him "Then I am taking my leave, my Lord."
Brandon nodded his head and she took the stuff before walking to the door.
She reached the door, opened it gently, and turned her head slightly, just enough for her voice to carry behind her.
"I know you are leaving tomorrow morning and if you want me to assist you when you return, you can always reach for me, My Lord."
Brandon nodded once. "Alright..."
