Chapter 768: Chapter 768: Loving Parents

They kept walking down the quiet road, only the soft sound of the wind following them.

"She was a young woman back then," he began.

"The witch of a small mountain village. People there didn’t hate her or anything. Some were scared, sure, but others just thought she was odd. She had magic, but she never hurt anyone.

"One day, a man came from the city. He said he was traveling, but he stayed longer than he needed to.

He started visiting the witch every day. The two of them fell in love. At least... that’s what she believed."

Yu Holea frowned. "And it wasn’t real?"

Sun Weitao shook his head. "She thought it was. He told her things like, ’One day, I’ll marry you,’ and, ’Let’s run away to the city together.’ She trusted him with all her heart.

"But then... they got caught. A few villagers saw them together in the forest. They told the village head."

Yu Holea narrowed her eyes. "Let me guess. The village didn’t like that."

"No," he said. "But the worst part was the man’s friend. He came from the city too, and when he found out, he got scared. He told the villagers that the witch had bewitched his friend. Said she used dark magic to trap him in love.

"The city man didn’t deny it either. He got scared of being blamed, so he lied. He said, ’I don’t know how I ended up with her. She... she must’ve hypnotized me or something.’"

Yu Holea’s mouth dropped open a little. "He just threw her away like that?"

Sun Weitao nodded sadly. "She was shocked. She asked him, ’How could you betray me?’ But he didn’t even look at her. He just said, ’It was all your wishful thinking.’"

Yu Holea clenched her fists.

"After that," Sun Weitao said, his voice dropping lower, "the villagers got angry. They tied her up. Beat her. Called her a monster. That night... ten or eleven men broke into her home."

Yu Holea stopped walking.

She didn’t say anything, but her face went pale.

"...They did things," Sun Weitao said quietly, eyes dark. "Things no one should ever go through."

Yu Holea’s throat felt tight. She could barely breathe from how heavy her chest felt.

"And after that?" she asked in a whisper.

"She snapped," he said. "She used her powers. She burned the crops. Froze the rivers. Called storms from the sky. Animals ran from the village. People started dying."

Yu Holea’s hands shook a little.

"So the friend," Sun Weitao continued, "the one who started everything... he went to a sorceress. She was famous and powerful. He begged her to stop the witch."

"When the sorceress came, the village was already a ghost town. She believed the friend’s story. The witch had turned evil and cursed everyone.

"She found the witch—weak, injured, and crying—but didn’t give her a chance to explain.

"She killed her."

Yu Holea bit her lip hard, looking away.

Sun Weitao looked up at the sky.

"The witch tried to tell her the truth in her last breath. That everything she did was because she was hurt. That she only wanted justice.

"But the sorceress didn’t listen."

He paused.

"...After she died, the witch’s soul was full of hatred. She used a forbidden spell. Gave up her afterlife to come back."

Yu Holea shivered. "What happened next?"

"She came back more powerful than before," he said. "She destroyed the village. Every single person. But when she looked for the city man and his friend, they were gone. They had already escaped."

Yu Holea stared ahead, her voice small.

"Did she ever find them?"

Sun Weitao shook his head.

"No one knows. But the witch’s head still holds her anger. That’s the head I found. It was glowing like it still had a soul."

Yu Holea was silent for a long time.

"...She didn’t deserve any of that," she said finally.

The witch was the prime example that villains are not born but made.

"Anyways...eh? Why am I feeling lighter?" Sun Weitao muttered.

Yu Holea looked at Sun Weitao. His body seemed to glow a little, like moonlight was wrapping around him. He looked confused, but not scared.

"Maybe," she said softly, "your last wish wasn’t about solving the witch’s case. Maybe... you just wanted someone to know the truth. To tell her story."

Sun Weitao blinked. "You think that’s it?"

Yu Holea nodded slowly.

"Sometimes, being remembered is enough. If someone hears your story, if they care... then it matters. Maybe that’s all your soul needed."

Sun Weitao stared at her for a long moment. Then, his face changed. It was calm, peaceful. Like he was starting to understand.

"So... that’s why I feel lighter," he said, almost to himself. "I think I might be... leaving. I might enter the reincarnation cycle soon."

He turned to her, looking a little shy now.

"Hey... um, can I ask you something?"

Yu Holea gave him a soft smile. "Of course."

He looked down at his ghostly feet, then back up at her with hope in his eyes.

"In my next life... do you think I could have parents? Real parents? Ones who love me? I’ve always wanted that.

In this life, I was always alone. I just... I want to know what that feels like."

Yu Holea felt something shift around her heart. Something warm, but heavy.

She closed her eyes and reached out with her mind, touching the future, brushing the edge of fate.

When she opened her eyes again, her smile had turned gentle.

"Yes," she whispered.

"In your next life, you’ll be born into a poor family... but they’ll love you with all their hearts. You’ll feel warmth and kindness from the moment you’re born.

You’ll know what it’s like to be hugged by a mom, scolded by a dad, and cared for every day."

Sun Weitao’s eyes grew shiny, like he might cry.

"Really?" he asked, voice shaking.

"Really," Yu Holea nodded.

"You’ll be smart, too. You’ll work hard and change your life. One day, you’ll get a job with a billionaire, and your salary will be in millions. And your love life? Beautiful. You’ll be happy, and you’ll be loved."

She paused.

"All because of the good things you did in this life. Because you gave to others when you had so little for yourself."

Sun Weitao’s lips quivered. Slowly, his smile grew.

"...I’ll finally be loved," he whispered, mostly to himself.

He closed his eyes, a peaceful breath leaving him, like a weight had lifted off his soul. Bit by bit, he started to glow brighter.

His body turned soft and transparent, like fog catching the morning sun.

"Thank you," he said with one last smile.

Then, he slowly faded, disappearing into the wind like dust on the waves.

Yu Holea stood still for a long time, watching the spot where he vanished. The beach was quiet again.

The moon hung high above, and the stars twinkled like nothing had changed.

But something had.

Yu Holea felt a little heavy inside. Not sad, exactly—just full. Like her heart had swallowed the memory of a kind soul and wouldn’t forget it.

She whispered into the wind, "Good luck, Sun Weitao. Be happy this time."

A gentle hand wrapped around Yu Holea’s waist.

She looked up to see Qiao Jun standing beside her. His eyes were warm, soft like candlelight.

"You’ve done enough for tonight," he whispered. "You should rest now."

Yu Holea nodded slowly. The heaviness in her chest finally floated away, like mist leaving the shore. She leaned against him for a moment, just breathing in the calm of the night.

"Jun..."

"Hm?"

"The moon is beautiful tonight." She said softly while staring at the moon.

There was a pause for a brief moment before Qiao Jun’s voice sounded,

"The moon is beautiful tonight."

.............

The next morning, sunlight poured into the villa like golden syrup. Yu Holea stood in the living room, her hands tightly clenched.

"Can we all gather at the dining table?" she asked, her voice steady, but her heart beating fast.

One by one, the Yu family came. Mrs. Yu, with kind eyes. Yu Sicong, serious as always. Yu Shuchang, calm and quiet. Yu Sile, yawning and grumbling about being too early for drama. And at the head, Grandpa Yu, silent with his cane resting beside him.

When everyone sat, Yu Holea stood up slowly.

"I have something to tell you all," she began.

Everyone looked at her, waiting.

"Yu Mei told me something," she said. "She said... I’m not Mr. Yu’s daughter."

The room went very still. Even the clock on the wall seemed to tick louder.

"She told me... that Mr. Yu tricked Mom into sleeping with his twin brother. And I was born from that."

The silence stretched longer.

Then Yu Sicong frowned.

"Holea, you shouldn’t believe things so easily, especially from people like Yu Mei. We’ve never heard of any twin brother. Father has always said he was an only child."
