Ghost Exorciser: The Oust Fake Heiress Strikes-Chapter 176: Hate And Love Relationship?
Her mother always kept a calm front and assured her that she didn’t know any grudge when, in reality, she couldn’t let go of the bitterness she was holding.
The conflict of not being able to hate her child and blaming her child for the death of her lover made Betty’s mother choose the safest and easiest option.
One which, once chosen, would result in Betty’s mother being free of the oppressive life.
When Sebastian got to know about Betty’s mother’s death, he was devastated. Ironic as it may seem, instead of blaming himself or the family who had forced Betty’s mother to commit suicide, he blamed Betty for everything.
To torture her, the mistress whom he didn’t even like much, and the daughter of the mistress, who clearly wasn’t related to him, he brought them into the mansion and even married them.
Oftentimes, Betty thought that Sebastian was using her as a shield to get together with his first love.
It soothed her to a certain extent that she wasn’t the one responsible for ruining her mother’s life.
Her father was selfish and hence forced her mother to die. Her father wanted her mother to die so he could marry that mistress.
But one day, she stumbled upon the harsh truth. He never loved the mistress and was just together with her... because he just wanted to torture the murderer of his mother.
From that day, Betty knew one thing... she didn’t just lose her mother when her mother died... it was her father too.
Never once was she given the chance to feel what fatherly love feels like... and honestly... her father’s way of loving made her disgusted with the concept of loving a man to the point her sexual orientation was heavily influenced.
A woman’s pain may not necessarily be caused by a man, but the reason is always the same: men.
"Betty, your mother is asking you something. Answer her!" Sebastian’s harsh voice broke Betty’s daze, and she replied in an even voice,
"It wasn’t me. She is misunderstanding."
Slap!
The familiar stinging pain made Betty grit her teeth. However, she endured. If she left now... she won’t be able to take the revenge she has been dreaming of till now.
Her revenge was simple. Take everything away from Sebastian. She would make him feel what it means to be oppressed.
"You are lying again? Just with whom are you hanging out? Why are you adopting so many bad habits?"
"I am not picking up any bad habits."
A sharp scoff sliced through the room. Harper’s.
"Oh? Not picking up habits? Then why are you hanging out more with that Layla girl? I have heard that you even let her touch you in private areas? Sebastian, I think she is picking up bad habits from her mother!" Harper’s words hit Sebastian’s sore spot.
Betty’s nails dug so deeply into her palms that she felt skin tear.
Harper didn’t stop. She raised her trembling hand to her mouth, feigning shock, feigning delicacy, and feigning saintliness.
"I’m only saying this for her sake," Harper continued softly. "She is at an age where confusion is natural... But letting another girl take advantage of Betty? Touching her in private areas? Just like her mother once did..."
"Enough." Sebastian’s voice cracked across the room like thunder.
Betty’s heart lurched.
Harper’s eyes glimmered, success shimmering under her lashes.
She stepped closer to Sebastian, lowering her voice into a whisper just loud enough for Betty to hear.
"I’m worried she’s repeating her mother’s... deviant tendencies. And we all know where that led."
Harper’s smile, gentle, sad, and pitying, was a mask stretched over pure malice.
"Sebastian," she murmured, "if we don’t correct her now, she might shame us again. She might shame Sophia. The household will talk. The elders will talk. People will say she is... indulging in forbidden conduct."
Sebastian was silent for a long while before he asked in a grim voice, "Is it true, Betty?"
Harper smirked in Betty’s direction; she even secretly turned on the phone recording function.
Betty remembered what had happened with Mary, the gardener, and did not want her lover to face the same fate; she clenched her fist and denied.
"No! That’s untrue. We have a platonic relationship! Don’t smear her name!" Betty kept her voice calm and composed.
"Oh? Then you won’t have any problem in getting engaged to Elias Jones, right?" Harper asked in a sharp voice, irritating Betty to no end.
’This bitch. She knows that Elias has violent tendencies and is paranoid. He is an orthodox person and disdains a person if they have or ever had an unconventional relationship with the same sex.’
Betty could almost make out Harper’s plan. She wanted to kill Betty and help her daughter sit in the position of heir.
Once Betty gets engaged with Elias, she will secretly or ’accidentally’ release those photos to him. In rage, Elias would kill Betty, and then... Sophia will have the chance to inherit everything.
Betty took a deep breath and replied, "Why should I? By rushing to agree to your condition, it would seem that I am indeed guilty."
"Or is it that... you fear that Elias would know about your relationship with Layla in the future and..." Harper began, but Betty chuckled coldly.
"Harper, if I didn’t know better, I would think that you want to kill me and make a way for Sophia." Betty’s biting words made Sebastian look at Betty with interest. 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢
Harper paled before she said with absolute conviction, "You... you are twisting my words! If you haven’t had any unconventional relationships, why fear getting engaged to Elias?"
"First, there are various possibilities. What if someone maliciously edits my photos and Elias kills me in rage? I won’t even have time to defend myself...."
"He won’t..." Harper began, but Betty cut her off.
"Second, why only Elias? Do you have some kind of private dealings with them, stepmother? Maybe something like... selling me to them?" Betty’s words made Harper stumble slightly.
