Giant Dragon Lord: Starting from Daily Intelligence-Chapter 129 - 123: A New Griffin Family
The mountain range was vast, making the search no easy task.
First, after reaching the Black Stone Mountain Range, Raylo followed the ridgeline eastward.
In the afternoon, a dozen or so small, black dots suddenly appeared in the sky ahead, moving at high speed.
As they drew closer, he could see they were a flock of raptors, their bodies flickering with faint sparks of electricity.
"Thunder Light Falcons!"
Raylo recognized this type of Magical Beast.
Thunder Light Falcons were Tier Three Flying Magical Beasts. They weren’t large—only slightly bigger than a common falcon—but they were incredibly fast and could cast simple Thunder Techniques, making them quite difficult to deal with.
An idea struck Raylo. He considered having Baofeng give chase to find their nest and see if there was any possibility of subduing them.
However, the Thunder Light Falcons were small and as fast as lightning. With a few flaps of their wings, they became streaks of light on the horizon.
Even Baofeng, the Storm Griffin King, could only watch them disappear, letting out a frustrated cry.
The other Storm Griffins were left far behind, with no hope of catching up.
Raylo sighed, left with no choice but to give up.
The Thunder Light Falcons were simply too fast. Catching them would be impossible without setting a trap.
On the second day, in an open valley area, Raylo stumbled upon a hunt.
The Two-legged Flying Dragon that often lurked around the edge of his territory was now viciously pouncing on an Earth Dragon.
He remembered this particular beast because, unlike others of its kind, it had a spot the size of a human head on its chest.
The Earth Dragon’s body was stout and covered in thick Scale Armor, but against the Two-legged Flying Dragon’s Iron Claws and Sharp Teeth, it was clearly no match. It soon fell with a mournful cry.
The Two-legged Flying Dragon let out a triumphant roar and began to enjoy its lunch.
Raylo didn’t disturb it, instead signaling for Baofeng to lower his altitude and circle nearby to observe.
’Since an Earth Dragon was hunted here, there must be a whole clan of them living nearby,’ he thought.
Sure enough, after a careful search, he discovered an Earth Dragon nest at the base of a hidden, chaotic stone slope. By a rough estimate, there were at least twenty of them.
Raylo was overjoyed. He carefully memorized the location, planning to send people to bring these Earth Dragons back later.
It was a pleasant surprise.
Moonlight clearly had no interest in these clumsy Earth Dragons. She just nudged Raylo’s hair with her paw, as if urging him to move on.
Persistence pays off.
On the afternoon of the third day, as Raylo and Baofeng flew over a rugged stone forest, he finally caught a glimpse of an unusual flicker of shadow.
The stone forest was filled with bizarre, jutting rock formations. Its complex terrain made it a natural hiding place.
Raylo signaled for Baofeng to descend and approach cautiously.
Pushing aside a dense thicket, the view suddenly opened up before him.
Beneath a massive, mushroom-shaped rock, a simple nest came into view.
It was a clutch of Griffins. Their bodies were a deep, dark gray, allowing them to blend perfectly into the shadows of the rocks.
They were slightly smaller than Storm Griffins, but their forms were more streamlined and their gazes sharper, exuding a cool, phantom-like aura.
"Shadow Griffins!"
Raylo’s heart skipped a beat, and his breathing grew hurried.
This was an extremely rare species of Griffin, known for its stealth and surprise attacks. Their value far exceeded that of ordinary Storm Griffins.
In the nest, there were four Shadow Griffins in total.
Two adult Griffins were warily preening their feathers, while two not-yet-fully-grown chicks nestled beside them. Their downy fuzz hadn’t completely shed, giving them a clumsy but endearing look. They were clearly unable to fly on their own yet.
This was a Griffin family raising its young.
The two adult Shadow Griffins had obviously noticed the arrival of Raylo and Baofeng. They immediately let out a low, warning hiss, spread their massive wings, and fixed their golden eyes on the intruders, brimming with hostility.
The feathers on their bodies bristled slightly, radiating a dangerous aura.
Sensing their hostility, Baofeng responded with a high-pitched cry of his own, his kingly presence on full display.
Raylo quickly calmed Baofeng, signaling for him not to act rashly.
Moonlight, who had been lying on Baofeng’s back, now opened her pale golden eyes. She sized up the two little Griffins with great interest, her tail swaying gently behind her.
She seemed more interested in the two fluffy little ones.
Raylo carefully observed the two wary adult Shadow Griffins and the chicks in their nest.
’Capturing them by force, even if successful, could lead to injuries or death for the Griffins, and the chicks might not even survive. That’s not what I want.’
He tilted his head slightly and gave a command to Baofeng beneath him.
Baofeng understood. He let out a low cry and led the other eleven Storm Griffins in an orderly retreat, finally landing on top of a relatively flat, massive stone pillar at the very edge of the Stone Forest.
The pillar was tall and offered a wide field of view, allowing them to monitor the Shadow Griffins’ nest while maintaining enough distance to avoid provoking them further.
As soon as the Storm Griffin Group landed, they folded their wings and stood quietly, awaiting the next command.
"Baofeng."
Raylo patted his mount’s sturdy neck.
"Remember how you subdued your companions last time? Go on. Make them understand who the true king of this sky is."
He decided to abandon his previous plan of a forceful encirclement.
With the two chicks present, the adult Shadow Griffins wouldn’t abandon their nest easily. This gave him an opportunity for a peaceful subjugation.
Using Baofeng’s Equal Tier advantage as the Storm Griffin King to intimidate and recruit them was undoubtedly the best option right now.
Baofeng raised his head, a flash of pride in his golden eyes.
He stretched his majestic wings and let out a clear, high-pitched cry, filled with the pride and confidence of a Griffin King.
In this region, he was the most powerful Griffin.
Just as Baofeng began to beat his wings, preparing to take off and fly toward the Shadow Griffins’ nest, Moonlight, who had been curled up quietly in Raylo’s arms, suddenly moved.
Moonlight leaped gracefully, her body tracing an elegant arc through the air, and landed perfectly on Baofeng’s broad head.
She adjusted her position, her four paws gripping firmly onto the feathers on Baofeng’s head. Her pale golden eyes were half-closed in a look of leisurely contentment.
Raylo was momentarily stunned, but then he relaxed.
He didn’t stop Moonlight’s sudden action.
’This little one is always doing something astonishing when you least expect it, and it often leads to surprisingly effective results.’
Since she was getting involved on her own, he would let her be.
Baofeng was already used to the sudden "accessory" on his head. He didn’t even dare to give a symbolic shake.
He gave a powerful flap of his wings, kicking up a strong gust of air, and his huge, agile body soared into the sky, heading toward the Shadow Griffins’ nest.
The other Storm Griffins remained where they were, watching quietly.
A moment later, Baofeng was hovering in the air above the Shadow Griffins’ nest, casting a massive shadow that enveloped the entire simple structure.
