Giant Dragon Lord: Starting from Daily Intelligence-Chapter 139 - 133: Unexpected Encounter - A New Pegasus Herd
Pushing open the ajar door, Raylo found Master Barnaby hunched over a pile of sheepskin scrolls, his hair as messy as a bird’s nest wrecked by a storm.
"Ahem," Raylo coughed lightly.
Master Barnaby shot his head up. Seeing it was Raylo, he adjusted the monocle that had nearly slipped from his eye.
"Lord, what brings you here?"
Raylo smiled and got straight to the point.
"I’ve come to bring you some news, Master. I think you’ll find it interesting."
"Oh? What news is so important that it requires the Lord to come in person?"
Master Barnaby was clearly distracted, his gaze drifting back to a newly concocted experimental Potion on his desk.
"While hunting deep in the Black Stone Mountain Range a few days ago, Baofeng discovered a hidden cave."
Raylo said slowly, observing Barnaby’s reaction.
"According to what Baofeng sensed, the cave has... the presence of a Giant Dragon. It seems to be a Young Dragon’s nest."
"What?!"
Master Barnaby’s eyes instantly blazed with a shocking light. He shot up from his chair with an agility that was nothing like that of a middle-aged Mage.
"A Young Dragon’s Nest?"
’Could it be the nest built by that Mutated Silver Dragon after it migrated deep into the Black Stone Mountain Range?’
Seeing his reaction, Raylo laughed to himself.
’The old man is still obsessed with that Mutated Silver Dragon.’
"That’s what I was thinking too, which is why I came to find you as soon as I heard the news, Master."
Raylo decided to play along.
"The location is quite remote, and the mountain depths are teeming with Magical Beasts. I was planning to investigate it myself. If you’re interested, Master, why not join me?"
"Go? Of course I’ll go!"
A moment later, two massive figures shot up into the sky above Black Stone Castle and sped northward.
Storm Griffin King Baofeng spread his enormous, yellowish-brown Iron Feathers. Each flap kicked up a powerful gale, and his speed was like lightning.
Master Barnaby’s Two-legged Flying Dragon, while a bit slower than Baofeng who commanded the Wind Element, seemed to have excellent stamina, keeping pace just behind and to the side of the griffin.
High above, the wind howled fiercely.
"Young Raylo, about how far away is this Dragon’s Nest you mentioned?" Master Barnaby’s voice carried on the wind.
"At Baofeng’s pace, it should take about five or six hours," Raylo replied.
The two fell silent, focusing on the journey.
The outline of the Black Stone Mountain Range loomed ever larger. The unbroken chain of peaks resembled the spine of a Giant Beast, vast and ancient.
After flying for roughly five hundred kilometers, they were deep within the mountains of the Black Stone Mountain Range.
Below them, forests were dense and canyons were deep, and they could occasionally spot signs of powerful Magical Beasts.
Just then, Raylo’s gaze sharpened, and he signaled for Baofeng to slow down slightly.
"Master, look over there!"
He pointed toward an open river valley ahead and to their left.
Master Barnaby looked in the direction he was pointing. Far below, a fierce hunt seemed to be taking place in the sky.
As they drew closer, the scene came into focus.
Above the mountains, an adult Highly Poisonous Flying Dragon was savagely attacking a herd of terrified white Pegasi.
The herd had clearly been ambushed. Their formation was in disarray, and a few stragglers on the fringe were in mortal danger from the Highly Poisonous Flying Dragon’s claws and Sharp Teeth, letting out panicked whinnies.
"It’s a herd of Pegasi! There are so many of them!"
A sharp glint flashed in Raylo’s eyes.
If he could get his hands on this herd, Black Stone Territory would no longer be just piddling around with twenty or thirty Pegasi, but could form a true Pegasus Knight Order!
Furthermore, by expanding the territory’s herd, he could also start thinking about breeding the Pegasi.
"Young Raylo, what a pleasant surprise!"
Master Barnaby’s perspective was clearly different from Raylo’s.
"That Highly Poisonous Flying Dragon seems to be alone. Let’s team up and capture it. We can use it for our Tier Four, Sub-Dragon species Dragon Descendant Knight."
"Hahaha, who knows? We might even be able to cultivate a Dragon Descendant Knight with the innate ability to fly."
Master Barnaby’s own mount was a Two-legged Flying Dragon, but he had raised it for many years and would never use it as expendable material for an experiment.
In Master Barnaby’s eyes, this Highly Poisonous Flying Dragon was the perfect test subject, delivered right to their doorstep.
"Master, let’s team up to drive off that Highly Poisonous Flying Dragon, and then try to herd this flock of Pegasi toward Black Stone Territory."
"This herd of Pegasi is of great use to me. We can figure out the experimental materials for the Tier Four Dragon Descendant Knight later."
Raylo made his decision.
He decided to prioritize expanding the ranks of his Pegasus Knights.
"Fine, Young Raylo. We’ll do it your way!"
Master Barnaby patted his Two-legged Flying Dragon’s neck, agreeing to Raylo’s plan.
"Baofeng, go!"
Raylo commanded with a low shout.
"SCREEE!"
The Storm Griffin King let out a high, piercing cry. His yellowish-brown form became a bolt of golden lightning as he abruptly accelerated, diving ferociously toward the black Two-legged Flying Dragon!
The Highly Poisonous Flying Dragon was focused on its hunt when it was startled by the sudden approach of an overwhelmingly powerful presence.
It twisted its head and saw a Storm Griffin King, far larger than itself, charging with the force of a thunderbolt. Behind it, another Two-legged Flying Dragon of the same tier watched with predatory intent.
A flicker of fear crossed the Highly Poisonous Flying Dragon’s eyes. It knew it was no match for two Tier Four Magical Beasts. With an indignant hiss, it resentfully abandoned the prey within its grasp, turned, and fled wretchedly into the distance.
Baofeng didn’t give chase, merely circling once in the air to assert his dominance.
The terrified herd of Pegasi was thrown into chaos, but with the predator gone, they gradually began to slow down.
"Master, let’s flank them and herd them toward Black Stone Territory!" Raylo shouted.
"Right!"
Master Barnaby replied, steering his Two-legged Flying Dragon to flank the other side of the Pegasus herd.
One man on a Griffin, the other on a Two-legged Flying Dragon, they began to carefully herd the still-shaken Pegasi.
At first, the herd flew about in a panic, but under the deliberate guidance of Baofeng and Master Barnaby’s mount, they gradually formed up and began flying south, toward Black Stone Territory.
「Several hours later.」
The afterglow of the setting sun had dyed the horizon a magnificent orange-red.
Thanks to the coordinated efforts of Raylo and Master Barnaby, the enormous herd of white Pegasi was finally driven near the border of Black Stone Territory.
The Pegasi were clearly exhausted from the long flight. No longer as panic-stricken as before, they simply clustered together instinctively, flying slowly as they were guided.
"We’re almost there, Master. Black Stone Territory is just ahead," Raylo said to Master Barnaby, pointing at the familiar forested mountains below.
Right on cue, Baofeng let out a few low cries, as if proclaiming his claim to the territory.
Just then, a Pegasus Knight on border patrol noticed the unusual sight.
He first spotted his Lord’s Storm Griffin King, but then his gaze was captured by the massive herd of white Pegasi, his eyes filling with shock and elation.
He hastily urged his Pegasus mount over.
"Lord!"
Raylo gave a slight nod.
"This is urgent. Return to Black Stone Castle immediately. Inform Captain Ed to bring all available Pegasus Knights, along with enough lassos and equipment. Tell them to hurry here with all speed. Remember, quickly!"
"Yes, Lord!"
The Knight dared not delay. After a resounding reply, he immediately turned his mount and sped toward Black Stone Castle as fast as he could, his figure soon vanishing over the distant horizon.
