Giant Dragon Lord: Starting from Daily Intelligence-Chapter 99 - 98: New Griffin King - Baofeng
The Golden Feathered Griffin clearly felt the immense pressure, and its movements faltered for a moment.
It had never expected this outsider of its own kind to possess such immense power.
Baofeng seized the opportunity. With a sudden burst of speed, his massive body shot like a cannonball toward the Golden Feathered Griffin’s flank.
BANG!
The Golden Feathered Griffin couldn’t dodge in time and took the hit head-on. It let out a shrill cry as it lost its balance, plummeting downward like a kite with a severed string.
Pressing his advantage, Baofeng beat his wings and dove, his sharp talons glinting as he aimed straight for the Golden Feathered Griffin’s head!
However, just as Baofeng’s claws were about to make contact, the Golden Feathered Griffin executed an incredible mid-air tumble, narrowly avoiding the fatal blow. At the same time, it opened its great maw and pecked straight at Baofeng’s face!
Baofeng’s reaction was just as swift. He tilted his head, and the Iron Beak grazed past his cheek, shearing off a few cyan feathers and leaving behind a shallow, bloody gash.
’That was close!’ Raylo thought. ’This Golden Feathered Griffin’s combat intelligence is not to be underestimated.’
The battle grew more intense, and more brutal.
The number of wounds on Baofeng’s body mounted. Feathers had been torn off in several places, revealing the tough skin beneath, which oozed traces of blood.
His steel-like feathers were now a disheveled mess, lacking their former majestic splendor.
But his aura only grew stronger. A fierce fighting spirit burned in his golden eyes, and each attack was more ferocious than the last.
He seemed to be using this battle to unleash the immense Power he had nowhere else to put after his promotion to Tier Four, and in doing so, he was growing more accustomed to it.
The Golden Feathered Griffin, on the other hand, was in far worse shape.
Its golden feathers had dimmed considerably, and several patches were stained red with blood. One of its wings seemed to be badly injured, its movements sluggish.
Its panting grew heavier and heavier. Its stamina was clearly depleted, and it was struggling to continue.
It couldn’t understand why this outsider of its kind was so powerful, as if it had an endless well of energy.
After another violent collision, Baofeng used his superior momentum to once again send the Golden Feathered Griffin flying.
At the same time, he spread his wings, conjuring a gale that blasted toward the Golden Feathered Griffin’s face.
This time, the Golden Feathered Griffin couldn’t immediately stabilize itself.
Baofeng seized the chance, pursuing it like a shadow. Showing no mercy, his sharp talons raked viciously at the Golden Feathered Griffin’s back!
SHLICK!
The sound of claws sinking into flesh was sickeningly clear.
SKREEE!
The Golden Feathered Griffin let out a horrific, piercing screech. Its massive body trembled violently, no longer able to stay airborne, and it plummeted toward the top of the tallest stone pillar below.
CRASH!
Dust plumed into the air, and rock fragments scattered.
Baofeng followed close behind, landing steadily on the pillar’s peak. He planted one of his gleaming talons heavily on the Golden Feathered Griffin’s neck, pinning it firmly to the ground, unable to move.
The victor was decided!
Baofeng raised his head proudly. Though his body bore many wounds, with blood dripping from his feathers, his posture was that of a triumphant king.
He spread his wings and let out a sky-shattering cry!
SKREEE!
The sound, filled with the joy of victory and a sovereign’s authority, echoed across the entire Stone Forest, lingering for a long time.
In the Stone Forest, the twelve Storm Griffins that had been watching the battle nervously fell silent for a moment. Then, all at once, they let out a series of low, respectful cries.
They slowly beat their wings and flew toward the pillar where Baofeng stood. They circled it, their postures humble, as if submitting to their new king.
Raylo stood on a distant peak, watching this scene, completely dumbfounded.
’It’s... over? Just like that?’
’The problem I racked my brain over, planning for a long, drawn-out war of attrition, was just solved by Baofeng with one exhilarating, straightforward battle?’
He looked at Baofeng’s majestic figure, feeling the triumphant aura radiating from him, and for a moment he didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.
’What was that all about?’
’I guess plans really can’t keep up with changes.’
Atop the Stone Forest, the wind howled.
The image of Baofeng, standing on the body of the former king and looking down upon the flock, was deeply seared into Raylo’s mind.
The pride and Power of a sky-lord, even from a distance, were still enough to stir the soul.
After a while, Baofeng seemed to have finally savored the glory of his victory. Having confirmed that the Golden Feathered Griffin had completely lost the will to fight, he finally released his claws.
He hadn’t dealt a killing blow, merely wounded his opponent severely.
The Law of survival for Magical Beasts was cruel, but not entirely without mercy.
The Golden Feathered Griffin struggled to its feet. Its once-sharp eyes were now filled with dimness and defeat.
It lowered its head, let out a soft whine, and dragged its injured wing as it staggered into a dark crevice at the base of the pillar, cutting an incredibly desolate figure.
The other twelve Storm Griffins continued to circle Baofeng, their cries now holding less excitement and more submission and awe.
Clearly, the overwhelming power Baofeng had displayed had completely conquered them.
SKREEE!
Baofeng let out another clear cry, as if issuing a command.
The Storm Griffins immediately stopped circling and landed on nearby pillars, silently watching their new king.
Having done all this, Baofeng finally turned and looked toward the peak where Raylo was.
His figure, somewhat battered yet incredibly proud, was especially clear under the moonlight.
The next moment, he spread his wings and flew back toward Raylo, carrying with him the stench of battle and still-wet blood.
SKREEE!
The massive figure landed in front of Raylo, the strong winds from his descent making Raylo’s clothes flap noisily.
Baofeng folded his wings and moved close to Raylo, affectionately rubbing his enormous head against Raylo’s shoulder. A low "purrrrr" rumbled in his throat. His golden eyes glinted with pride and anticipation; he looked exactly like a child who had just won a fight and was eager to show off to his parents and ask for a reward.
Raylo looked at the many wounds, large and small, on Baofeng’s body. In some places, feathers were missing, revealing grayish-blue skin. In others, the flesh was mangled, especially around his neck and the edges of his wings, where the injuries were quite severe.
Many of his steel-like feathers were broken, making him look rather pathetic.
However, these scars did not diminish his imposing presence. Instead, they added an air of battle-hardened ferocity and valor.
"You big lug..."
Raylo was torn between heartache and amusement.
AWOO!
Moonlight jumped onto Raylo’s shoulder and gently patted Baofeng’s shoulder, expressing its approval.
Baofeng’s eyes instantly lit up. His tail feathers twitched smugly, and he let out a happy little chirp.
