542 Polluted

Although Lysandra was more skilled with her swords, her Quick Learner Talent allowed her to become one of the most versatile members of Shane's Raid Party.

Shane couldn't help but smile seeing how everyone in his team moved as if they had done this cooperation for some time.

Nia, on the other hand, continued with her support and stopped the momentum of the Zombies with her Thorn Barrier.

It may not have killed any Zombie but this action helped everyone on the frontline to ease their pressure.

This time, Shane curiously glanced at Jafal, the Ethereal Construct.

Based on his understanding of the Constructs, they should have a tough physique and be great in physical combat. But in Jafal's case, he would use his telepathic powers to distort the creatures' perception, causing them to misjudge their jumps and crash into rubble.

It felt as if he was using some sort of Illusion and it would definitely be useful in combat.

The others didn't have to act against the Zombies but still, Zephyrion raised his hand as he started chanting…

Crash~

Skeletal hands burst from the ground, grabbing one Jumper mid-air and crushing its spine.

"That's not bad…"

Shane nodded as he confirmed that Zephyrion's casting time wasn't actually slow.

It was about 6 to 8 seconds and it shouldn't be that bad since they have strong frontliners in their team. At the very least, he was better than the necromancers of the Wild Shelters before.

After a few more moments, the Jumper Zombies were defeated and Shane allowed them to just loot the Zombies they killed.

They could barely provide experience points with his high level so he just gave them to his team.

***

As they continued on their way, another Zombie stopped their path.

This happened two miles away from the horde of Jumper Zombies. Shane and the others looked at the lone figure standing in the middle of the d road.

It looked human with a deformed head like a siren... However, unlike the Siren Zombie they know, it had long black hair, and it was even wearing a bloodstained dress.

"Don't get closer…" he warned. "That's probably a Variant of Siren Zombie."

This was also the conclusion made by Cloud. Although the only sign they could identify was the siren shape of its head, Shane could already tell that this was definitely a stronger version of normal Siren Zombie.

To be exact, he wouldn't even be surprised if it turned out that it was the Siren Zombie King… or maybe Queen.

Nonetheless, everyone followed Shane's instruction as they halted from their steps.

They were also aware that the moment they stepped too close, it should release an ear-piercing scream that could shatter eardrums and attract hundreds of undead. It was one of the known traits of Siren Zombies.

They don't just use sound attacks but could also call for backup.

Tundra grinned and turned to Shane. "I got this."

Seeing his confidence, Shane decided to see what Tundra would do.

"Alright…" Tundra said as he picked up a stone…

Well, he could plant a bomb on this stone and throw it to the Siren Zombie before detonating it. However, a normal explosion wouldn't stop the Zombie from screaming.

That was where Tundra's new item came.

To be exact, it was the item that Tundra obtained after killing the Zombie Lord, Dreadmaw the Unchained!

[ Unchained's Emblem: A mystical insignia that enhances the Survivor's Talent. ]

The enhancement of his talent wasn't what he expected. He initially thought that his bomb's cost would lessen, or the explosion would get stronger, or perhaps, both of his hands could finally plant bombs at the same time.

However, it was different.

Tundra had actually obtained three more types of Bombs!

One of them was the Silenced Concussive Bomb.

After planting a few of them, he threw a stone with five planted Silenced Concussive Bomb toward the creature.

The Siren's mouth opened to scream after seeing the incoming projectile… However, this projectile had been thrown by a Survivor with more than a hundred Strength Points!

Before it could scream, an explosion sent it flying backward, severing its head from its shoulders!

[ You have eliminated a Loner Siren Zombie. ]

[ Congratulations! You are the first to eliminate a Loner Siren Zombie, a high-tier zombie! ] [ Hint: Only the first elimination of each Mid-Tier and High-Tier zombie can provide special rewards! ]

[ You have obtained the following rewards: Spirit Breakthrough Potion x2, Experience Boost Potions x2, Zombie Cores x50 ]

"Ahhh…" Tundra was shocked as he didn't expect that he would be able to kill the Zombie that easily… Well, his throw was simply too accurate and the Loner Siren doesn't have a strong defense to begin with. It heavily relied on its sound attacks to eliminate its target.

If it was able to scream just now, the situation might be different and they might have to work together to fight it.

"I think I'm in love with you," Kaelira the Vulpain said flatly as she realized how powerful that was. It was definitely an attack that was more powerful than Otto's fireball.

After all, Otto still had to chant to cast a powerful fire spell while Tundra could easily plant bombs on whatever he touched.

Tundra winked. "Get in line."

His confidence had certainly improved after becoming strong once again.

"Alright… Go ahead and loot it." Shane said.

"Yes, Clan Leader… Right, I actually got the first kill reward for that Loner Siren Zombie as well." Tundra said.

Shane nodded at him as he already expected that much. Soon, Tundra looted the Zombie and unfortunately, he didn't obtain anything good aside from vials of potions. ***

After about three hours of journey, when they were about to reach the citadel, the group suddenly smelled something bad.

It was like rotting meat, but worse.

"Toxic Zombie?" Shane muttered as he used his Perception and Cloud's inspection to find the source of the bad smell.

However, it didn't take long before they saw a group of Zombies approaching their group.

They had the physique of a Tyrant Zombie, but its body was emitting some green miasma like that of Toxic Zombies.

Six of these creatures appeared. And they seemed to be some sort of miniature bosses…

"Another Variant Type Zombie… Tyrant and Toxic Zombie Combination? Toxic Tyrant? Ugh… Let's be careful… Probably no one had killed this thing before." Shane said.

"Get ready!" Lysandra warned as one of the Zombies roared and it seemed to be a sign for the others as they all charged forward!

'That must be the leader.'

Everyone had the same thought. They all wanted to kill the leader first and in this case, the one who roared seemed to be the target they had to kill immediately.

"Now this is a fight!" Kain shouted as his body shifted and transformed into werewolf form.

Clang!

He decided to advance and take charge of the frontal assault!

In just a few moments, his claws were already colliding with the Toxic Tyrant Zombie!

"Help our werewolf…" Shane said. Although he knew that Kain should be resistant to poison, he was still worried that he might get poisoned after inhaling a lot of those green miasma.

"On it…"

Sona then raised her staff and an ice formed in the air before she unleashed a storm of frozen spikes, impaling two Toxic Tyrants in place.

"Nice work…" Otto praised her for a moment before he cast a spell of of his own… The chanting took another five seconds or so before he was able to channel a pillar of fire, melting one of the creatures alive.

Vernon, Kale, and Lysandra also assisted the group while Shane and the others decided to conserve their strength just in case another horde arrived.

"Don't…" Shane reminded Tundra who seemed to be planning to throw a bomb.

"Hahaha… I'm just preparing." Tundra immediately said. He knew very well not to attack when his allies were fighting at close range.

[ You have eliminated a Polluted Tyrant Zombie. ]

[ You have eliminated a Polluted Tyrant Zombie. ]

It seemed that they weren't the first to eliminate these Zombies.

"So it's a Polluted Tyrant, huh…" Shane nodded.

Soon, the last Polluted Tyrant stumbled, as its body was riddled with wounds.

Lysandra then lined up her rifle's scope.

One clean shot between the eyes—BOOM.

The Tyrant collapsed.

As they wiped off the blood on their bodies, Shane and the others moved forward for a few steps and soon, they were able to see the Citadel they were aiming for.

Indeed, just beyond the hill where they defeated the Polluted Tyrant, everyone could finally see the Maggotfall Citadel.

Even without using high-level detections or binoculars, they could see Its massive stone walls that were covered in undead insects or some giant maggot-infested creatures moving along its surface.

"This looks really dangerous, Sir Shane…" Tundra muttered after seeing numerous black dots hovering around the Citadel.

There was no doubt that the Swarm Sovereign deserved its title!
