Chapter 67. Akin to a Missile, a Massacre! (1)

Lu Yuan couldn't care less about the impact of his actions. To him, there was simply no threat whatsoever. Even if Longevity Genetics sent out all its elite figures, the result wouldn't change.

In addition, he wasn't planning on killing just a group of people. If he wanted to make his actions feel meaningful to his enemies, he had to make them feel pain.

Since he was going to cause trouble anyway, why not make it big?!

"Blood will be spilled? Whose? I guess you're still ignorant of your own situation." Wang Tao's eyes sharpened. "Since you're not going to obediently hand over that divine sword, then you better not blame me for being impolite."

When his words fell, he and the old man retreated slightly. He then brought his right hand down. In the distant forest, figures appeared from the shadows.

"Oh no, this is bad! They're going to attack!"

"We've got to leave now! Otherwise, we're going to get caught in the crossfire!"

"Those are modern weapons! The Longevity Genetics actually deployed them!"

The bystanders were shocked at the sight. Then, without any hesitation, they decisively left, abandoning all thought of watching from the sidelines. They couldn't allow themselves to get caught in the crossfire.

They were Awakened, but there was no way they could withstand the firepower of modern weaponry. Moreover, Longevity Genetics was clearly determined to kill Lu Yuan and seize his sword.

"Attack!" Wang Tao exclaimed, giving the order.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

Gunshots erupted as bullets flew straight toward Lu Yuan; there were so many bullets that it looked as if there was a torrential rain of them. The bullets were fired from high-caliber rifles, and the bullets themselves could easily pierce steel plates. They were extremely powerful; even powerful Awakened would turn pale at the sight of them and would surely suffer grievous injuries.

Yet Lu Yuan still stood in place, his expression relaxed, showing no intention of moving. He wanted to see just how far his current physique had reached—whether he could already ignore some heavy weapons.

"Not enough! That's still not enough! More power!" Wang Tao roared once more. He believed that one ought to deliver a fatal blow upon one's enemies upon making the decision to attack.

Since the arrow had already left the bow, there was no turning back. He ordered his people to raise the ante.

The helicopters in the sky opened fire with machine guns while grenade launchers below were aimed at Lu Yuan. Deafening explosions reverberated, and smoke filled the air, creating a terrifying sight.

A blazing light pervaded the scene as the massive explosions made even the nearby mountains tremble slightly. Flames swept everything away in horrifying heat waves.

Lu Yuan was thoroughly engulfed. In the blink of an eye, he was inundated by bullets, shells, and grenades.

"This is just too much; are they trying to level a mountain?!"

"Too vicious... they're too vicious! Must they really do this against just one Awakened?"

"I guess he doesn't want to give his enemy any time to react or leave him with any way out!"

"It's over. Lu Yuan is dead."

"Despite having such a powerful sword, he's still human—made of flesh and blood!"

Shocked murmurs spread through the distant crowd. The sheer force of the attack was on the scale of a battle far too much for any single Awakened to endure.

This display of viciousness from Longevity Genetics struck fear into the crowd. An assault of this magnitude? Not even the Five Supremes themselves could walk away from it.

The extraordinary power of the Awakened had its limits. Awakened simply couldn't match the power of modern weaponry. This was an undeniable truth, and everyone agreed to it.

And so, everyone watched, certain of the outcome. Lu Yuan was dead. The attack had been too sudden and too fast. He never had a chance to react.

"Stop!" Wang Tao exclaimed. It had been a minute since the bombardment began. He smiled as he gazed at the rolling smoke. He had been preparing for this bombardment over the past several days, and now, it seemed that his efforts had paid off in spades. Under such heavy bombardment, even his elder brother would most likely die if he were caught off guard.

"Second Young Master, it's a success," the old man smiled, walking over to Wang Tao. However, neither of them moved forward and simply waited for the smoke to dissipate.

Soon, the old man's face froze. He sensed a human's aura present within that smoke. Wang Tao felt the same, and his heart skipped a beat.

"Are you done?" A calm voice echoed. The smoke then cleared up, revealing Lu Yuan standing in place completely unharmed. He looked calm, and his clothes were spotless, even though a deep and wide crater had appeared beneath his feet.

The bombardment had also scorched the ground around him.

However, Lu Yuan himself remained unharmed and unaffected. Lu Yuan judged that even modern weapons of mass destruction couldn't harm him in the slightest. Even without the Primordial Qi Robe, the outcome would still be the same.

"N-no way... h-how is this even possible?" Wang Tao was shocked, his hands trembling slightly. Under such powerful bombardment, Lu Yuan looked as if nothing had happened. The old man and the onlookers were dumbfounded as well; they all found it unbelievable.

"I'm done playing," Lu Yuan said, looking at Wang Tao.

"Second Young Master, run!" the old man shouted, coming back to his senses before anyone else. He then turned to the others and roared, "Attack him again!"

He was an ancient martial arts inheritor, specializing in fist techniques. He charged out with his fists glowing; his entire being radiated a powerful aura as he displayed the strength of a Foundation Realm VII expert.

Behind him, a torrential rain of bullets and shells surged forward. Despite the terrifying sight, Lu Yuan's brows didn't even furrow. When the bullets struck him, sparks flew before they were forcefully sent flying away.

Meanwhile, the old man charged over and swung his fists toward Lu Yuan's vital points. Lu Yuan's expression remained unchanged, but power rumbled through him as he raised his hand and gave the old man a light slap.

Smack!

The old man exploded into a bloody mist. He was unable to withstand even one strike. His blood splattered on the scorched ground, watering and dyeing it in a crimson hue. The old man had literally... disintegrated.

"Ah!"

The crowd was shaken at the sight. They knew the old man was strong, so how come he died in just one strike?

"Everyone, move! Kill him!"

No way, no way, no way! How come he's so strong? Wang Tao was utterly terrified. Without any hesitation, he issued orders to attack while retreating. He then took out his phone and requested reinforcements.

The ace team from Longevity Genetics rushed out from the forest, while the helicopters above made a beeline for the battlefield. They deployed all of their weapons, bombarding Lu Yuan with an even fiercer salvo than earlier.

"Want to leave?" Lu Yuan said, "Nope, you're staying!"

Lu Yuan's legs bent slightly, and then he pushed off the ground.

BOOM!

The ground beneath his feet cracked open and shattered. He surged forward, landing before Wang Tao. Waves of pressure emanated from him, making Wang Tao feel as if he were staring at a real dragon.

Lu Yuan's eyes appeared calm yet were filled with cold indifference.

"What are you trying to do?! I'm from the Wang Family of Longevity Genetics! My elder brother is the Southern Sovereign, and he's in Chang'an right now! I've already informed him of what's happening here! Y-y-you can't kill me!" Wang Tao screamed.

He was truly terrified. He hadn't expected Lu Yuan to be so powerful without drawing that sword. He also had never expected—even in his wildest dreams—that Lu Yuan could withstand such a fierce bombardment.

Wang Tao trembled uncontrollably, and his face turned as pale as a sheet in the face of Lu Yuan's aura. In his desperation, he fell back on his only remaining shield—his background and his connection to the Southern Sovereign, one of the Five Supremes.

Lu Yuan was silent. He gripped Wang Tao's cheeks with one hand and slammed his face into the ground.
