Global Awakening: Infinite Gift Pack System-Chapter 144: The Floating Thing
A few moments ago, Kai and the others were busy stopping the frantic advance of the mutants...
As soon as they killed dozens of them, these mutants started pressing harder. It was as if they were blinded by rage after seeing their fellow mutants die without even being able to touch their targets.
Thankfully, Kai had prepared their traps really well.
While Atom remained free to support whichever side was weaker, Kai decided to go in front in case there was a need to use his Spirit Pulse to help his friends.
With his Specter Step, he was able to move around faster and kill more mutants after all.
He swiftly cut down any mutant that had slipped past the traps!
"Atom! Don’t hold back anymore! Kill as many as you can!" Kai shouted as the battle raged on. Mutants kept coming, crawling from every direction, their numbers seemingly endless.
The survivors fought really hard with their blades while Ralph and a few others relied on their revolvers... They had to be faster reloading them, but it was perfectly fine.
Whoosh~
Aurora ducked as a mutant swung at her, then drove her dagger into its throat.
"Careful!"
Jonas pulled her back just in time as another mutant jumped forward, only to be impaled on a metal pike.
Victor, on the other hand, roared as he swung his axe, splitting a mutant’s skull. "That’s another one!"
Marissa, though not a frontline fighter, moved quickly to support, dragging wounded survivors back and throwing her hatchets in hopes of ending their enemies’ lives.
Kai’s voice rang out again. "Hold steady! Don’t break formation!"
The survivors obeyed...
The traps continued to do their work, thinning the horde.
Pitfalls filled with writhing bodies, trip wires sent mutants sprawling, and the barricades held firm.
Still, the pressure was immense.
Sweat poured down their faces, as more and more mutants kept coming...
But the promise of Experience Points kept them going. Every kill meant growth, strength, survival.
However, as more mutants started appearing everywhere, they heard a buzzing sound in the air!
The survivors froze as they scanned the treetops, expecting the Dragoons or Swarmers...
However, the buzzing grew louder, rattling through the air like a swarm of monstrous insects.
Then, the shadows parted.
It wasn’t a swarm at all.
"Above us!" Kai shouted in shock.
A massive flying fortress drifted overhead...
Its engines were humming like thunder; it was blotting out the sky!
The sheer size of it made the ground tremble, and for a moment, the Mutants themselves seemed confused... Their shrieks even grew louder as they glanced upward!
The survivors felt dazed as they realized what was happening!
Wallace’s revolver almost slipped from his sweaty hands while Jonas nearly dropped his spear.
"W-what the hell is that thing?!"
"Are we about to be obliterated?"
"This is crazy... So unfair!"
"Wait... What’s that smell?"
Someone actually pissed their pants. The stench mixed horribly with the smell of gunpowder and mutant blood.
Aurora grimaced, but she couldn’t help laughing nervously. "Seriously? Right now?"
But there was no time to dwell on embarrassment. The Mutants were still charging, and the traps were still snapping shut.
Kai shouted...
"Focus! Don’t just stare at it! Kill the Mutants!"
The survivors snapped back to reality as they wielded their weapons once again.
Even those with soiled pants had to fight... Well, their faces were red with shame, but they swung their weapons.
Still, the fortress lingered in their minds. Its silhouette was unlike anything they had ever seen! It was a floating city of steel drifting silently across the sky.
Claire’s voice trembled as she sliced through a mutant’s throat.
"Are we really sent to the A.I. Rebellion Apocalypse? That thing we saw... it looked like something meant for Alien Invasion Apocalypse!"
Jonas stabbed a mutant through the chest while panting heavily. "Ah... I just remembered. I had three choices when I was thrown into this mess. I chose A.I. Rebellion over Alien Invasion and Zombie Outbreak. Now I’m starting to regret it..."
Victor grunted as he split another mutant’s skull. "If that fortress belongs to the A.I. Army, then we’re screwed. If it belongs to aliens, we’re double screwed."
Marissa, still catching her breath, muttered, "Maybe it’s just passing by. Maybe it didn’t even notice us."
Kai’s eyes squinted as he cut down another mutant. "Doesn’t matter. Whether it’s A.I. or alien, we’ll deal with it when the time comes. For now, finish the fight!"
The survivors roared in agreement. With this yell, their fear turned into adrenaline.
Just like that, they hacked, stabbed, and shot until the last of the mutants fell with their bodies piling against the barricades.
"We won!"
"I leveled up!"
"Wohooo! Me too! Check the Leaderboard!"
"I don’t care about the Leaderboard! Let’s hide now, please!"
"My blade’s chipped, but who cares? I still got five kills! I want more."
"Ugh, my pants are ruined... don’t laugh, I panicked when that fortress showed up!"
"Did anyone see that mutant I sliced? Clean cut, I swear!"
"Stop bragging, idiots! We’re all covered in blood and stink..."
"Thank you, Kai! Let’s run this again one more time?"
"No! Not yet! That flying city is still above us."
Soon, they all looked back at the huge flying vessel.
After a few minutes, this vessel was already fading into the distance. It didn’t bother them at all!
Just like that, silence fell over the battlefield with the survivors standing among the corpses of the mutants.
"Hahaha! It’s done..."
Wallace broke the silence with a nervous laugh.
"Well... at least the flying fortress didn’t shoot us. That’s... something, right?"
Aurora shook her head. "Something? That thing looked like it could wipe out a city in seconds."
"If that fortress really belongs to the A.I. Army, then that’s definitely from Anima Civilization instead of A.I. Aria, the rebel," Claire muttered. "This is important information."
Then, as the flying fortress left without even bothering them, everyone heaved a sigh of relief. It seemed that it didn’t care about weaklings at all.
’Wait... that direction.’ Kai was stunned as he recalled the map he had.
If he wasn’t mistaken, that flying fortress was heading in the direction leading to one of the few remaining Human Cities!
