Chapter 458: Chapter 328: The Black Tower

Wang Zhifan did not adopt Jack’s suggestion. After thinking it through, he decided to visit those most famous and dangerous places first, even though Jack had already told him that some of these places were considered private property by some big figures.

So, after some preparation, Wang Zhifan summoned the Red Deer Horse and set off on his journey alone, while Jack stayed in the initial town, continuing to find ways to gather intelligence about the Demon King. This kind of task could be said to be the safest and most leisurely task Jack, as a Warrior, had ever done.

At this moment, Wang Zhifan was riding on the Red Deer Horse, flying through the sky with it. He was holding the parchment map recommended by Jack, occasionally flipping through and comparing it, efficiently heading to his first destination, the Black Tower.

Because the journey was entirely at a high altitude, Wang Zhifan did not encounter any obstacles. Even some monsters hunting in the air were far from being a threat to him, all defeated by him effortlessly, until he slowed down after noticing a towering Black Tower emerging on the ground ahead.

"According to the legends collected by Jack, the Demon King might be hidden inside this tower, possibly living at the top of the tower."

Recalling the information he knew, Wang Zhifan urged the Red Deer Horse to fly upwards, approaching the top of the looming tower.

This giant tower indeed had a top, located several hundred meters above the clouds. It was an unremarkable black spire, but as Wang Zhifan gradually approached it, he began to sense some dangerous feedback, as if forcing closer could result in something very unpleasant happening.

"As expected, as the legend says, one must enter the tower from its ground entrance; trying to fly up and enter the tower would only bring harm to oneself."

With a slight attempt, Wang Zhifan gave up on this method. Although he was confident he could withstand the dangers brought by the tower and considered forcibly entering using some skills, he was concerned about the subsequent reactions provoked by the tower, deciding to follow the set rules.

"Now, the issue that needs to be solved is those who guard the tower below. Dealing with some people would be much easier for me, but it’s not necessarily to use force."

Contemplating, Wang Zhifan directed the Red Deer Horse back towards and landed in the vicinity of the high tower before he proceeded alone towards the tower’s entrance.

As a famous adventure location in this world, the Black Tower was not easily accessible by just anyone. Some local powers did not want others to share in it, so for decades, manpower had been arranged to keep watch over the tower’s entrance, allowing only those granted permission by powerful backing forces to enter. This method, though selfish, reportedly significantly reduced the mortality rate of adventurers in this area.

Wang Zhifan did not disguise himself for this trip. He was wearing his full equipment, carrying an unscathed longsword and proceeding steadily forward, discovering some commotion at the entrance before he arrived, where two groups were facing off at the tower’s base.

One side appeared to be a team of tall and powerful steel-armored Knights, dressed in uniform colored outfits complemented with some archers and Mages, firmly guarding the brass doors of the Black Tower.

The other group seemed rather mismatched, likely a mercenary group of about twenty people. Although their equipment and configuration were not outstanding, they did not falter in momentum when facing the blocking soldiers.

"Let us in immediately! The Black Tower is the Celestial God’s creation! You have no right to occupy it!"

A rough-looking Warrior mercenary shouted towards the steel-armored Knights.

"No! We won’t let anyone in without the Duke’s warrant! If you come closer, we will attack! Don’t blame us for not warning if there are casualties!"

One of the guard Knights also shouted.

"Despicable! The Black Tower should swallow you all!"

"You’re all dogs of the aristocrats! Guarding treasures like the tower yet not daring to enter!"

...

The mercenaries continued to curse, their words harsh, but no one dared to step closer, clearly aware of their own abilities and unwilling to be made an example by the guards in front.

Wang Zhifan walked steadily behind the mercenaries, using his impressive height to gaze over them towards the tower’s massive doors, noticing that the heavy brass doors were slightly ajar, seemingly welcoming visitors to explore, except the aristocratic guards in front thwarted those hopeful intruders. 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞

"Who are you? Do you also want to enter the Black Tower?"

A relatively rear-positioned mercenary was the first to notice the approaching Wang Zhifan. She was a young, black-haired woman wearing a tight-fitting brown leather armor and boots, holding a short bow with a dagger fastened at her waist, her arched black eyebrows showing some wariness.

"Yes, let me handle those guys."

Wang Zhifan nonchalantly moved past her, responding indifferently.

Though he didn’t speak loudly, his words instantly piqued the interest of more nearby people. The mercenaries turned back to see his tall, imposing figure with equipment that didn’t seem ordinary, and they tacitly allowed him to pass through their ranks to the front, closest to the guards ahead.

To their surprise, after reaching the front, Wang Zhifan did not engage in the negotiation he mentioned but instead continued onwards as if not seeing the guards, offending the steel-armored Knights at the front.

"Stop! No one is allowed to enter without the Duke’s warrant!"
