Chapter 479: Chapter 338: Sword Nurturing, Maiden (Part 2)

"Monsters should have souls, at least some of them certainly do. Given the number of monsters in this dungeon, if I put in some effort, I might be able to level up this weapon a few times. By then, I might be able to use it against the Demon King."

As he was pondering this, he realized that the Sinful Greatsword had already started absorbing some sort of mysterious material. The source of this mysterious material was the nearby corpses behind him, primarily the massive number of monsters he, along with the cowboy hat gunman and various NPCs, had just killed. Even the old Mage who had been blasted to bits by the Demon King’s power seemed to have contributed a little bit, but just a little.

"The range at which this sword absorbs is quite large; it makes things convenient for my operations."

Wang Zhifan then quickly moved away from the previous spot, stepping into the boundless darkness. He planned to kill a large number of monsters to facilitate the growth of the Sinful Greatsword, frequently using the Ice Source Power’s wide-range instant kill to enhance efficiency.

Thus, time passed slowly. Wang Zhifan, while controlling a clone to escort those NPCs back to the surface and maintaining a good relationship with them, his true self conducted a silent massacre in the dungeon, making groups of monsters disappear. It was only when encountering some particularly special existences that he would pause.

At this moment, a figure worthy of being called special appeared within his sensory range. He had already discovered the other, but she hadn’t noticed him.

She seemed to be a young woman with a graceful figure, possessing a delicate, beautiful face and a slender stature. But from her dark purple skin, pointed ears, slightly crimson pupils, and the ability to see in the dark without hindrance, it was clear she wasn’t human.

"Why are there corpses everywhere today... Has the human army swept through here..."

Ithrace felt very puzzled. She had come up from the depths of the dungeon for routine exploration and to hunt down those weak humans daring to approach their territory, yet she hadn’t found a single human. Meanwhile, there seemed to be hundreds or thousands of monster corpses scattered across this underground desolation, which was highly unusual.

Feeling the danger, she subconsciously lowered her body, slowed her steps further, and tightly gripped the dark stone dagger in her hand, guarding against any human operatives skilled in stealth who might ambush her.

But all her preparations were destined to be in vain because Wang Zhifan had long discovered her from afar and decided to engage her in some friendly communication.

Suddenly, Ithrace heard a few footsteps from behind. With rich experience, she didn’t immediately turn to observe but instead performed a quick and nimble forward side roll to avoid being ambushed by attacks from behind.

Then relying on her race’s dark vision, she saw the approaching figure in the darkness. He seemed to be an odd human, tall, with a conical disk above his head. The edge of the disk had a band covering his face more securely than those human mages who liked to hide their faces in hoods.

"When did this guy appear... I didn’t see him at all just now... It seems I’m likely not his match, better escape quickly!"

Ithrace, after merely glancing at Wang Zhifan, instinctively wanted to flee. For a being like her, proficient in agility and assassination, an enemy who could approach without her noticing was scarier than one who could defeat her head-on; it was a sign of her professional skill being overwhelmingly surpassed.

However, just as the thought of running arose, she found she suddenly couldn’t move, frozen from head to toe except for her eyes, as though encased in ice.

"Hello, resident of the dungeon, I would like to ask you a few questions... If you agree, blink your eyes; otherwise, I’ll kill you and go find the next one."

In the darkness, Wang Zhifan, wearing a bamboo hat, walked up to Ithrace and began to inquire.

His senses told him this was a humanoid race, one with some mysterious power, likely possessing the potential for communication, which is why he didn’t immediately kill her to feed the Sinful Greatsword.

In a more precise sensory image than vision, Wang Zhifan soon saw the dungeon girl in front blinking, and she blinked several times, clearly indicating her strong will to survive.

"Very good, you can speak now."

Seeing the peculiar-looking girl agreed, Wang Zhifan immediately released part of her restraint, though he noticed she didn’t start speaking right away. Instead, she met his gaze with a forcibly calm look, her pupils hiding a powerful fear, seemingly waiting for him to ask questions.

Wang Zhifan then proceeded to speak first:

"First question, I want to know, how much do you know about the Demon King? Has it returned to the dungeon yet?"

This was part of his routine intelligence gathering; he didn’t expect her to disclose any world-shattering secrets, but cross-referencing multiple accounts was essential.

"The Demon King... is the lord of the dungeon... our supreme ruler... The clan says it will return soon to lead the subterranean races to attack the surface, to annihilate the evil... humanity..."

The girl with the exquisite face and dark purple skin replied, sounding a bit stammering and nervous.

"Heh... don’t pretend, I know you’re not that scared, just be natural."

Wang Zhifan chuckled after hearing her, even though she couldn’t see him across the hat brim.

"Second question, are there any renowned treasures in this dungeon? Or do your race and other races have any special treasures? You can lie or not answer, but I will definitely seek others to verify."

This question was Wang Zhifan’s impromptu idea. He had heard about the quality equipment produced here on the way to the dungeon, but he hadn’t seen anything that caught his eye, thus he continued pressing deeper in search of the most valuable treasures, preferably high-level gear that could be taken out of the instance.

Yet, upon hearing his question, the alien girl seemed taken aback, appearing hard-pressed to organize a response, only managing to speak after two or three seconds:

"The treasures of the dungeon were originally scattered throughout, but most have been taken by humans, placed in human treasuries on the surface... The treasure of our subterranean races have long been seized by the Demon King, haven’t heard of anyone having special treasures, at least not to my knowledge..."

"And what race and status do you belong to?" 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖

Hearing her pitiful words, Wang Zhifan continued his questioning; he indeed hadn’t encountered a similar existence before.

"I belong to the Night Elves, with the status of a Hunter."

Ithrace responded immediately.

"Then guide me in the direction of your territorial lands, or even other races’ lands will do, as I wish to visit them. Don’t worry, it’s just a visit."

His voice turned somewhat placid, with no detectable hint of menace, yet the alien girl tightly pressed her lips, refusing to answer the question, apparently intent on keeping her mouth shut.

"I said it’s merely a visit, are you unwilling to give a guest directions? Looks like I’ll need to employ some special means to get the answers..."

Wang Zhifan stated as he prepared to use the power of the Blank Belt to render the girl into an idiot.

But the girl seemed to catch the coldness in his eyes and hurriedly responded before he could act:

"Dear guest, if you genuinely wish only to visit... I can lead you there..."

A steely resolve flickered in the girl’s eyes, clearly indicating a plan had formed.

But Wang Zhifan didn’t mind whatever she had planned; against absolute power and methods, small tricks were meaningless. He nodded immediately, released her constraint, and let her lead the way ahead.

"Let’s go, pick up the pace; I don’t have much time."

Finally, Wang Zhifan urged her, accompanying her deeper into the dungeon.

However, had someone with sufficiently powerful perception been observing, they would have discovered it wasn’t his true self accompanying Ithrace, but a clone. His main body remained busy killing monsters and nurturing the weapon.
