Chapter 108: Chapter 108: Threes Company and No Way Out

Nearly a day and a night had passed when Fang Jie emerged from the Lord Mansion.

He had just woken up, having slept the previous day on a timed schedule. Upon waking, food and various goods were already prepared for him. With so many subordinates, Fang Jie never lacked resources.

After tidying up, Fang Jie began to eat while reviewing the reports that had been sent earlier.

The reports indicated that the central army, after advancing for a distance, had begun to slow down. Fang Hao continued to lead them forward, while Cosette and Dorola led two other groups to accelerate on both flanks.

A day later, the formation had essentially taken shape. Of course, this was just a rough outline.

The entire Undead Army, like a gray-white cover, was being drawn over the central area. Once in position, Rock Oasis would be surrounded on three sides, creating a "three sides surround with one side open" posture.

Whether or not this posture would be useful was unknown to Fang Jie. After all, they had brought an overwhelming number of people this time—more than eight million on their side.

On the side of the Desert Snake-men, their numbers were not few, roughly on par with this military force.

However, not all the Desert Snake-men were able to fight. Excluding the youngest and the old who were nearly immobile, the remaining combatants numbered over five million.

This was Fang Hao’s estimate; whether it was accurate they did not know.

But they did have an advantage—in the variety of their forces. Unlike their opponents, who had almost only one type of soldier: Desert Lizardmen.

In addition to warriors, the Desert Snake-men had assassin types, though they were essentially useless.

In such a battlefield, assassins were less useful than warriors.

As for whether Desert Snake-men had Mages or Priests, that information had not yet been ascertained.

After eating, Fang Jie took his Guard Team and flew toward the front lines on a Mechanical Flying Eagle. On such a distance, the Flying Eagle could make the trip in less than an hour, possibly even faster.

On another front, the Snake-man Leader’s face was grim as he observed the assembled subordinates.

TThey had a large number, but they were a mixed and disorderly group.

"Quiet down! We must understand that though the Undead are more numerous, they are inherently weak. Although we are fewer in number, we are stronger than they are."

"But their numbers are still overwhelming," someone protested—war meant death, and no one was foolish.

They came from different regions and none wanted to rush in to die. The key issue was sacrificing oneself to protect others who were strangers was simply not worth it.

"Silence, do you not understand? If we stand together, the desert will still belong to us. Otherwise, we will be like lost dogs, forced to flee everywhere."

"We can still run in that direction, right? There are no Undead there," another voiced out.

"Idiot, it’s just a trick of the Undead. Do you really think there is nothing in that direction? Besides, we have nowhere else to go. This is the desert, and underneath our feet lies the only large Oasis. If we lose it, what will so many people eat? The Undead will chase us to death."

"And what’s the use of escaping to the Blue Sand Empire? To become Slaves?"

Elsewhere, Gray Scale was silently leading his troops towards the only direction not yet surrounded.

"Gray Scale, what are you doing? Are you planning to defy the Leader’s orders?"

Gray Scale shook his head: "To fight here is to wait for death; it’s better to escape."

"Aren’t you afraid of falling into an Undead ambush?" the man continued.

"Ambush? Don’t joke. In a battle of this scale, would a few ambushers make any difference? And if their numbers were large, would we not notice? The only possibility is that there are no ambushers on that side."

The Undead likely wanted them to flee, so they could chase and finish them.

The Leader was right about one thing, departing from Rock Oasis without supply support, they could not hope to withstand the Undead. So, the thing to do was to leave first, in order to survive.

"But our strength isn’t weaker than those Undead."

"Yes, our collective strength is not weak, but this is still a rabble," Gray Scale frankly said, observing the others who were only thinking about themselves and their tribes. Without true unity, there was only one outcome: death.

The Undead, on the other hand, wouldn’t face such an issue. Undead creatures had always been one of the most obedient races.

"I am going now. If you stop me, do not blame me for not being polite."

Those behind Gray Scale also prepared themselves for battle.

The Desert Snake-man blocking the way thought for a moment and then shook his head, "Alright, go then. I hope your choice is not a mistake." What else could he do at this point? He was unable to stop them.

If it caused a commotion, given their current state, it might even trigger a chain reaction.

That day, when it was discovered that Gray Scale had fled with some people, the Snake-man Leader remained extraordinarily calm.

"There hasn’t been a leak, has there?" the Leader first confirmed, then continued, "Since there is no leak, then spread the word that they have merely gone out to carry out a mission."

The subordinate hurried away, as the pressure in front of the Leader was tremendous.

Fortunately, Gray Scale had not taken many people with him, otherwise, it would have been impossible to cover it up.

The situation was clear to the Snake-people and the Leader better than to anyone else, but what could he do? If he were not the Leader, forced to appear before everyone every day, he himself would want to flee.

Yet the thought of being displaced and possibly becoming a Slave was unbearable to the Snake-man Leader. freeweɓnovel~cѳm

He would rather die in battle than fight the Undead to the very end.

"What’s the situation now?" On another front, Fang Jie had arrived at the frontline aboard his Mechanical Flying Eagle. And the army on the frontline was already in position, facing the endless foe—the Desert Snake-man army.

"The enemy has dispersed into defensive areas according to their tribes. There are also several large formations; if they are not from the large tribes, they must have scattered," Fang Hao pointed out, identifying what he could.

"It’s a bit strange that none of them have fled through the gap."

This was contrary to Fang Jie’s own knowledge and experience. Could it be that these Desert Snake-men were not afraid of death?
