God of Technology: Creating the Internet in Another World-Chapter 398: This Yield Is Terrifying
In the Goddess of Magic’s divine realm.
Ren was watching the livestream scene with great interest.
Back in his previous life, people were constantly bombarded with new technology, breaking records all the time, with all kinds of amazing inventions popping up. Because of that, people were really receptive to new things that might show up in their daily lives.
But in this world, unchanging is the eternal theme.
Thousands and thousands of years of no change, plus the fact that almost all information is restricted, meant people are really bad at accepting new things.
They even tend to resist them.
Even if something new appears, it gets labeled as heretical.
Good thing this world has plenty of gods and plenty of churches, and the various churches influence each other to some degree. Otherwise, any little change and both the thing and the person who made it would probably get burned at the stake.
But even that just means the people creating these new things won’t get killed off right away. If you actually want to spread them, that’s still incredibly difficult.
And changing the staple grain? That’s the hardest of the hard.
You could say that without Ren, without the Church of Technology, you wouldn’t find a single person on the entire continent who wanted to make changes.
Even the Goddess of Agriculture wouldn’t think to do something like that!
Now, with really powerful new grain varieties, backed by the Church of Agriculture and the Church of Technology, with this huge swath of the Southern Territory to plant in, everything at least had a good start.
But it was just a good start!
How do you get more people to believe these new grain varieties have huge yields?
That was still a problem.
Even the Church of Agriculture couldn’t influence most people’s planting decisions.
Ren knew this, of course. He figured they’d either take it slow and steady, or go all-in on propaganda on the Magic Net, working with the Church of Agriculture to brainwash people like crazy.
If possible, getting other gods to tell their believers about it too—that might speed things up.
"This Viscount Roster’s pretty clever."
Ren couldn’t help but be impressed. "He’s using other events to get lots of people’s attention all in one place, then has them look at this issue from a third-party perspective, making it just one of thousands of things that happen along the way through this ’passing by’ mindset."
"Subtly, this makes people feel like the whole thing is more reliable."
"Then add in Roster’s own reputation, plus the Church of Agriculture’s authority, and boom—the word’s completely out there."
"Having a believer like this is definitely good for us," the Goddess of Magic said with a smile. "Once this is all over, he should be able to focus most of his energy on Magic Conductors, right?"
Compared to regular Magic Conductors, this new grain variety had required a huge amount of effort. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺
Recently, Viscount Roster had been putting most of his energy into these crops, which meant a lot of other projects were moving slower than expected.
"I actually think that no matter how much time we spend on grain, it’s worth it. Golden Spike Grain yields four times what regular wheat does. That means the same farmland can feed four times as many people, which means the same land gives us four times the faith."
Ren didn’t seem bothered at all. "Stack that with all kinds of agricultural magic-powered machinery, clear some more farmland, plant a bigger area, and you can easily support several times more people."
"Yeah, and that’s exactly why right now there are at least hundreds of gods watching this livestream. Let’s hope everything goes smoothly for them, otherwise..." The Goddess of Magic didn’t finish her sentence and instead focused her attention on the wheat that was being harvested.
Viscount Roster had no idea that gods made up a full one percent of his livestream viewers.
The people at the scene had no idea either!
If they did, they’d probably be scared out of their minds.
The agricultural specialists from the Church of Agriculture harvested way faster than regular peasants or serfs. Golden Spike Grain wheat heads were being cut down quickly and sent to the scales by the roadside.
They’d barely made a dent in the Golden Spike Grain field when the person in charge of weighing suddenly cried out, "100 pounds!"
As soon as he said that, everyone went crazy.
They’d just barely started, the Golden Spike Grain field had just gotten scratched, and it was already 100 pounds?
If they harvested the whole thing, wouldn’t it easily break a thousand pounds?
"300 pounds!"
Before they could even process that, they heard another shout.
Three hundred pounds already!
Right now, most land produces only three or four hundred pounds of wheat.
The stuff serfs grow is usually around three hundred-some pounds.
And they’d only harvested how much?
Originally, a lot of people thought this field just looked impressive but couldn’t actually produce much more, and might even be harder to grow because of its showy appearance!
But now? They hadn’t even finished harvesting half the area and they’d already hit three hundred pounds!
How much would a whole acre produce?
"Five hundred pounds!"
Just a few thoughts later, after weighing again, they’d already reached five hundred pounds!
That was already more than most land produces.
Some of the highest quality land might occasionally hit 500 pounds per acre.
But only if the climate’s just right and the rainfall’s perfect.
And this was just from this small section!
This Golden Spike Grain really isn’t all show!
The vibe in the livestream had completely changed, and Viscount Roster’s expression started to relax.
The thing he’d been most worried about hadn’t happened.
As long as this kept up, he’d have successfully lit the first fire!
And next to him, the Archbishop of Agriculture started trembling all over.
God knows how much pressure he’d been under!
He was the Archbishop of Agriculture for the Dawn Southern Territory.
A lot of the new things the Goddess of Agriculture had bestowed were his responsibility.
The whole Southern Territory seemed to be changing.
And Golden Spike Grain was the most important of all.
This year, the entire Southern Territory was growing this staple crop.
If something went wrong with Golden Spike Grain, wouldn’t the entire Southern Territory’s agricultural faith be in trouble!
Because of the whole Church of War thing earlier, he’d already lost a lot of believers.
God knows how much pressure he’d been under!
Now, everything was finally working out, and he couldn’t help but get a little teary!
Just as he was about to say something in praise, the person weighing called out loudly, "1,000 pounds!"
One thousand pounds!
Looked like they’d only harvested about half.
Maybe just a little over half!
The legend that it could produce 1,600 pounds per acre probably wasn’t just talk.
The Archbishop of Agriculture’s lips trembled slightly, but he couldn’t get a single word out.
What he’d wanted to say got stuck, and he just stared blankly at everything in front of him!
