God-Tier Extraction Talent: Reincarnated in a Game-like World!-Chapter 77: Joining a Guild [3]
Chapter 77: Joining a Guild [3]
Step! Step!
Scarlet’s footsteps echoed as she walked into the Adventurer Guild building. The adventurers greeted her as she passed by, but they didn’t receive any response.
It was something they were used to and only did out of respect.
"What’s happening there?" Her eyes glinted as she noticed a crowd gathering at the gallery stands.
"Oh, right. Just like you requested, I set up the offer. Currently, our guild officials are testing the strength of the recruit," Lilly, beside her, responded in her professional tone.
A look of intrigue shone in Scarlet’s eyes. "Come, let’s go check it out," she said and started walking toward the gallery.
"Brunt is really testing that rookie? Isn’t this overkill?"
"Yeah, you’re right. That rookie is cooked. I wonder what he did to get Brunt to test him personally."
Usually, this practical test was conducted by a guild member whose strength was closer to the recruit’s level to make it fair.
It was the first time a Level 50 who had completed his first advancement would be facing a recruit—hence the gathered crowd.
"Guys, he said he would try to match the rookie’s strength. Let’s not make a big deal out of this."
Right at that moment, the adventurers sensed Scarlet’s presence and instinctively parted to the sides, not daring to continue their chatter.
However, she had already heard everything they said from a mile away. Her sharp gaze scanned the training ground, looking for the person they were talking about.
Suddenly, Lilly pointed with a shaky voice. "I-It’s him... what is he doing here?" freёnovelkiss.com
Scarlet quickly followed her gaze, and her eyes widened slightly at what she saw.
Standing below, preparing to face Brunt—one of the guild’s top adventurers—was someone she had never expected to see here.
Gabriel.
Although she quickly composed her expression, she couldn’t help but wonder what could have led him to apply to the Adventurer Guild.
He never struck her as someone who would want to work under others. But even if he did, why go after a public guild like this one—especially when better options like Crimson Star existed?
’Freedom,’ her eyes gleamed as she realized the reason for his choice.
"Lilly, stop the test!" she said in an urgent voice, surprising not only her assistant but the adventurers nearby.
"Huh? Stop the test? But why?"
"The vice leader probably saw that the rookie stood no chance. It’s for his own good, if you ask me."
Though the others misinterpreted Scarlet’s reason, Lilly didn’t.
’With Gabriel’s strength, Brunt’s life might be in danger,’ she thought, feeling a cold shiver as she recalled what had happened in the ancient ruins.
Instantly, she grabbed the railing, leapt off the gallery, and landed gracefully on the ground.
Meanwhile, Brunt cracked his knuckles, a wide grin on his face as Gabriel prepared to charge forward.
BANG!
With a powerful stomp, his body shot forward.
’Huh? That speed isn’t right.’ Brunt’s eyes widened when he saw how fast the newbie moved.
It felt unbelievable, and he couldn’t follow up properly.
In a desperate bid, Brunt quickly brought his arms up in an X-shape to block the incoming attack, eyes shut tight.
However, after several seconds passed, he still didn’t feel any impact. It was then he noticed someone standing between them.
Gabriel’s eyes shone with confusion when he saw the familiar feminine figure standing in front of him.
"You got lucky. If I hadn’t pulled back my fist at the last second, your head would’ve turned to paste by now," he said as he withdrew his punch.
"Did he just say paste?"
Because all attention had been on him, his harmless words reached the ears of everyone present.
"The arrogance... Who does this recruit even think he is?"
"He should be thanking Lilly for saving his ass!"
Scarlet remained silent, observing.
"Thank you," Lilly apologized.
That shocked everyone present.
Who was this guy?
The cold and proud Lilly—second only to the vice leader—actually apologized?
"Wait... did she just—?"
"No way."
"She thanked him?"
Suddenly someone pointed out, "Guys, I think I’ve seen him before. He once sparred with the vice leader."
"You’re right. That red hair and those intimidating blue eyes—how did I forget?" another facepalmed.
"I remember now. He was pretty promising back then... Was that why Lilly stopped Brunt from injuring him too much?"
Down below, a deep frown appeared on Brunt’s face as he slowly drew his arms back.
"Lilly, what’s the meaning of this?" he asked, voice somewhat controlled. "We were in the middle of something."
"I can see that. That’s why I interrupted the fight," she replied.
"But why? I thought it was guild standard protocol to test all recruits."
"It is," she said and looked up toward the gallery.
Brunt followed her gaze and spotted Scarlet’s emotionless expression.
"So, since the vice president is here... I guess it was her order." He smiled wryly and turned back to Lilly, who gave a faint nod.
"Is something the matter?" Gabriel asked.
She turned around and smiled politely. "The vice leader believes you are... qualified enough, and there’s no need to continue."
"Really? Qualified enough?"
"Bullshit. I’m sure Brunt would’ve folded him like a baby napkin."
"Hush. Keep your voice down—the vice president is close by."
"Is that so," Gabriel muttered, a trace of disappointment flashing across his eyes. He had wanted to test out the Devil Mirage technique he’d been relentlessly practicing on a human target.
"What a shame," he mumbled under his breath.
Brunt’s eyes twitched when he saw the youth’s disappointed look. Shouldn’t he be happy the fight was stopped in time?
His brow twitched harder. ’What a shame? This kid’s got guts...’
Thud!
Finally, Scarlet jumped off the gallery and approached them.
"Welcome to the guild," she said.
Gabriel smiled faintly. "Thank you..."
Afterward, she turned to her assistant. "Lilly, place him under temporary elite squad observation," she continued. "He’ll be assigned his first mission within the next couple of hours."
"Yes, Vice Leader." Lilly bowed quickly.
Gabriel tilted his head, slightly surprised at how fast things were progressing.
Without another word, Scarlet turned and began walking away.
Lilly looked flustered but quickly composed herself. "Please follow me. I’ll take you to the elite assignment room for briefing."
"Wait!" Brunt suddenly called out.
