God-Tier Extraction Talent: Reincarnated in a Game-like World!-Chapter 84: Escort Mission
Chapter 84: Escort Mission
"What’s that?"
"Why is it so heavily protected?"
"What could be inside?"
Gabriel slowly pushed through the crowd and came to the front, his eyes finally falling on what everyone was looking at.
To his surprise, it wasn’t a person.
Rather, it was an oddly-shaped armored crate being protected by powerful adventurers like Brunt.
"Do you think it’s a demon sealed inside?"
"Nah, if it were, they’d have called the Church, not Brunt."
Gabriel quietly listened as more whispers spread like wildfire.
The protection around the crate was reinforced with glowing glyphs, and no one was allowed within a ten-meter radius.
Just like the others, Gabriel became curious about what could be inside and why the adventurers guarding it seemed to be on high alert.
’That crate doesn’t look like it’s made for cargo. More like... a prison?’
While everyone was staring at the crate in the courtyard with a mixture of curiosity and fear, Scarlet, the Vice President, soon appeared.
Her sharp, cold, light-blue eyes swept through the crowd as she said coldly, "Everyone, return to whatever you’re doing. The crate—or what’s inside—is none of your concern."
"Vice President, can’t you at least tell us if it’s dangerous?" a bold adventurer asked.
Scarlet shot that person a glare. "Yes. That’s exactly why you should stay away."
When they heard this, some of the adventurers murmured but eventually dispersed, returning to what they were doing.
Still, throughout that day, every nook and cranny was buzzing with talk of the armored crate.
Like the others, Gabriel also proceeded to carry out his original goal, which was to find a quest.
This was his plan for the rest of the week until the players arrived.
’If it was possible, I’d have started the guild before they arrive. However, with so little time left, I doubt I’ll be able to do that,’ he sighed.
"Gabriel."
Suddenly, a voice echoed behind him, and he glanced in the direction to find Scarlet approaching.
"Follow me," she said, walking past him.
He raised an eyebrow, slightly confused as to why she was summoning him after all—they’d just been training together a short while ago.
Some time later, Scarlet led Gabriel to the white room where he had taken his first mission.
When he got there, a few familiar faces were already present.
Cassie and Sophie.
"Hi Gabriel, nice to meet you again," Sophie waved, a smile on her face.
Beside her, of course, was Cassie, who had a faint smile on her face as well, but considering how she had acted towards Gabriel before, her smile seemed forced.
Gabriel simply nodded back, and after a couple of casual exchanges, all attention returned to Scarlet.
"I won’t waste our time and head straight to the point," Scarlet said, a serious look on her face. "The armored crate below contains a very important individual."
"How important?" Sophie asked, folding her arms skeptically.
"That’s highly classified," Scarlet replied. "Your mission is to escort the crate and its contents to the Halden Settlement, deep within the wilderness. This is an S-Rank mission—expect your lives to be in danger."
Gabriel narrowed his eyes slightly. A mage, a warrior, and a support-type—he quickly realized the setup. Scarlet wanted a balanced team.
She didn’t want to take any chances by entrusting the mission to only one person, which meant that the individual inside the armored crate was very important.
’Is it a powerful prisoner with lots of allies? Or a royal?’ he frowned.
Meanwhile, Scarlet continued, "You are to leave by midnight. A special transport vehicle will be provided, but once you’re outside city limits, you’re on your own."
Both Sophie and Cassie’s expressions turned serious. However, Gabriel remained neutral.
"Why so secretive?" he asked calmly.
"Because multiple factions are after what’s inside," Scarlet replied without hesitation. "This includes small guilds... and possibly, the Five Major Guilds as well."
"The Five Major Guilds?" Sophie gasped in shock.
"You mean to tell me the top guilds are chasing a crate? What the hell’s in there?" Cassie frowned, suddenly realizing why this mission was classified as S-Rank.
"Any other questions?" Scarlet asked.
When none of them replied, she handed Gabriel a sealed letter.
"Give this to the contact waiting at Halden. Do not open it."
"Good," Scarlet said. "You have a few hours left, so go prepare."
Later that day, after telling Anna about the mission, Gabriel went to meet up with the others.
Upon arriving at the scene, he noticed that both Cassie and Scarlet were already waiting there.
Beside them was a train-like vehicle, with a middle-aged man whom Gabriel suspected to be the driver.
"Alright, I guess you must be the last person," the driver said when he arrived.
"I’ve already introduced myself to the others. My name is Victor," the man added, stretching out his arm for a handshake.
"Gabriel," he responded, accepting the handshake.
"The crate is already inside," Sophie said. "I’ve also purchased food pills, dozens of healing potions, and mana elixirs in case we encounter trouble."
"That’s very thoughtful of you," Gabriel praised. Within her veil, Sophie’s cheeks flushed red.
Her only saving grace was the veil—if not, everyone would have seen her most embarrassing side.
"Well, I needed to prepare," she coughed, avoiding Gabriel’s gaze.
Cassie stared at the scene, resisting the urge to roll her eyes.
"We don’t have all day. Shouldn’t we be moving now?"
"Sure, you’re right," Victor nodded as he climbed into the front cabin of the transport vehicle. "Everyone, buckle in. Once we leave the city, there’s no turning back."
One by one, they boarded the train-like vehicle.
Gabriel sat at the rear, his gaze fixed on the armored crate secured in the central compartment.
Some time later, the vehicle slowly drove toward the front gate of the city, unaware that over a hundred meters from them, five individuals were carefully observing their movements.
"Good, they’ve started to move," the first man said with a small smile on his face. ƒгeewebnovёl_com
"Boss, when do we attack?" another asked in a respectful voice.
"Not yet," the first man replied, his eyes glinting. "Let them pass through the city gate, deeper into the wilderness. Then Crimson Star will attack. No matter what, we must bring him to our guild!"
