Goddess's Yuri harem: Chosing the Empress is hard-Chapter 139: Being Watched- Part 1
Chapter 139: 139: Being Watched- Part 1
"Seraphina, how is the goddess doing? She did not find out anything about what we are planning?"
The demon looked at her clan’s elder with hooded eyes. Seraphina bit her lip to stop herself from complaining but held her tongue back.
"I understand what you are worried about, Elder. But please, rest assured that nothing will happen. I will make sure Goddess Auriel remains busy while we carry out our plan. That is what our benefactor wanted from us as well."
Seraphina reminded the elders about what their ’benefactor’ had told her, and as soon as she did, the elders calmed down, and they even had a fond look on their faces.
"Ah yes, the benefactor! That benevolent lady did say that we needed to let the goddess do whatever she wanted. It’s fine then. You can do whatever it was that you were doing."
The older female sounded like a doting grandmother when she talked about the benefactor.
Just hearing about the other female made Seraphina grit her teeth, but she kept a calm expression on her face.
"I understand. I will make sure our benefactor gets what she wants."
Seraphina sheathed her hatred for their benefactor before she walked out. As soon as she did, she let her annoyance out and stomped her feet on the ground.
"That bitch! Lady Victoria, huh? Where did that bitch come from? And a messenger of our lord? What a joke! I don’t buy anything she is saying. If only I could expose her..."
Seraphina let out a curse before she remembered where she was and quickly coughed to hide her embarrassment.
A few young demons saw her curse, but they avoided her out of respect for her.
The elders might have liked Lady Victoria and bought the crap she said about being a ’friend,’ but Seraphina could feel something sinister lurking under her gentle mask.
"Lina... where are you, Lina?"
Seraphina yelled, calling for her human slave. She did not like to wait long, and Lina knew that as well.
But no matter how much she yelled, Lina did not come to her. And for a second time, panic surged inside Seraphina’s mind.
"Hey, stop yelling! If you are looking for your slave, then she accompanied your guest back home. Don’t you think you should head back as well instead of yelling around?"
An old lady yelled back at Seraphina, and her words made Seraphina’s face go red.
’Fuck! Of course! I asked Lina to accompany the goddess back. Of course, she cannot hear me.’
It was a well-known fact that a demon’s power usually fizzled in front of gods.
Bringing Auriel here had been a hassle. A lot of preparation had been needed in advance to dampen her powers and not make her suspicious.
Thankfully, it had been all worth it, and the goddess cannot use her powers fully.
That being said, a goddess was still a goddess, and cutting her off completely was not even an option.
"Ugh, what a headache! Why did I have to accidentally become important in this village? I wish I could go back to being a no-named person. That way, I won’t have these many responsibilities to take care of. I could also spend a lot of free time with Lina..."
Seraphina complained, but there was no one around to address her worries and complaints.
And even if there were, they would have told Seraphina that it was her fault.
’Sigh! Time to head home now.’
The demon hurried back home and opened the door. The first person she saw as she entered was Lina.
"Where is the goddess?"
Seraphina asked in a tired voice as she collapsed on her couch. She barely noticed the shift in Lina’s eyes at that question before blankness took over once more.
"Goddess Auriel is asleep in her room. Would the master like me to go and wake her up?"
Lina asked, just as any good slave would. For human slaves, their master’s comfort was the biggest concern. So even if Lina did not want to, she was bound to ask these questions.
Before the human could go and alert the goddess about Seraphina, Seraphina waved her hand around to tell her that there was no need.
"Stop it! There is no need for you to do that right now. Just come and keep me company tonight. I don’t feel like I’m in a good mood, so I would like you to just stay with me for now."
Seraphina spoke as she opened her arms. It was an invitation for Lina to get with her.
There was no hesitation in the human’s actions as she leaned closer to Seraphina and melted into her arms.
"You’re doing good. Just stay here for now and allow me to sleep. I will think about other troublesome things later."
Seraphina lay on the bed with Lina nestled against her, the warmth of the human’s body seeping into her own.
It was comforting—more than she would ever admit aloud. Lina’s presence always managed to ease the tension that coiled within her, and for the first time in what felt like weeks, she allowed herself to relax completely.
Her fingers absentmindedly ran through Lina’s soft hair as she let out a deep sigh.
The weight of responsibility, the plans she had to carry out, and the goddess currently residing in her village—all of it momentarily faded into the background.
Seraphina drifted into a deep, dreamless sleep, her body finally succumbing to the exhaustion she had been ignoring for days.
She wasn’t sure how much time had passed when a strange feeling crept into her consciousness.
It was subtle at first, like a whisper at the edge of her mind, but the longer she remained asleep, the stronger it became.
Someone was watching her.
Seraphina stirred slightly, trying to shake the sensation away, but it clung to her like a persistent shadow. Her instincts screamed at her to wake up, but she stubbornly attempted to ignore it.
