Golden-Eyed Reaper: Transmigrated As The Forgotten One-Chapter 11: An Endless Void.
Chapter 11 - An Endless Void.
They reached the somewhat large hut where Noir was resting previously, she looked at Noir as they entered the hut, "You, what is your name?" she asked.
"I don't know.." his voice filled with sarcasm, a faint smile on his face.
She shot him a glance and proceeded to sit on the chair inside the hut, "I am Iris."
"Don't remember asking but sure."
....Iris didn't ignite another conversation after this.
After some time, Evelyn's mother entered the room only to find Noir munching on fruits while Iris attempted at sleeping while sitting on a chair.
She felt an urge to laugh but resisted, "Is everything okay now? I heard you had to handle the whole situation and 'somehow' survived from the verge of death?"
"It's fine, what about Evelyn? Is she okay? She seemed terrified earlier." he spoke casually as he bit on another fruit.
"It was a mental-strain even for her after all she's never seen something as cruel as 'that' before." Sarah spoke with a sad face.
"I see, hopefully she recovers soon."
"I wish for the same. She's a bright soul—it won't be long before she returns to her usual self," she added. "Excuse me, I have a lot to handle regarding the deaths, but I wanted to check on you first, so I postponed everything."
"Sure." Noir answered as he continued munching on the fruits.
...
'Consuming fruits really does help one recover faster.'
While acting like he was ignoring Iris, Noir continued his endless wanderings and thought-processes, 'What could potentially be the reason for her to be able to know my previous name?'
A sharp voice pierced through his thoughts, "Hey!"
Noir raised a brow, shrugging. "Thought you disappeared."
"What??" her blue eyes narrowed.
"The way you performed the superior way of 'the act of sleeping on a chair' I almost mistook 'you' for the 'chair'." Noir chuckled as he banged his hand on the bed.
"...Did I perhaps hurt you unknowingly someday?" she sighed.
"By almost killing me as well as by knowing something that no one else knows about me? Yes." He gestured with his hands.
"Knowing that you are a childish person, makes me your enemy? Didn't know." Iris spoke as she ignored the previous claim and tried mimicking Noir's way of speaking.
He shrugged, "No, I was talking about-" he added with a smile, "My name."
...
During that day, since everyone was busy whether it be work regarding the deaths or trauma due to unfruitful sight, in conclusion it was a day off.
Noir and Iris started having 'conversations' or at least that's what they called those, frequently.
'I don't have much time left before the Ryu invasion yet here I am, wasting my time with this monster of a lady."
Iris stared at him, "You are thinking something bad about me, aren't you?"
"Absolutely not." Noir spoke as he waved a 'no' with both his hands.
...
Time passed like fleeting dust, Evelyn recovered soon, in the meantime the hunters of the village were busy training as well as learning strategies from Noir.
Marcus was training with his fellow mates as well, all of their bodies were engulfed in sweat.
Sounds of huffs echoed as the hunters trained.
Meanwhile, Noir was advising the top-tier hunters as to what to do if things take a turn for the worse.
4 hunters were gathered near Noir for his advice.
"The moment you fight one up close, you're already dead. Even if you manage to stab it, its aura will corrode your weapon and your flesh. Stay at a range. Use spears, use traps, use anything that keeps you away." Noir spoke as he gestured with his hands.
The hunters were listening as if their life depended on it, which was true indeed.
One of the hunters stepped a bit forward, "What if things go south?"
"Speak of negativeness.." Noir sighed. He proceeded to smile faintly, "But it indeed is a good question." he tapped on the table in front of him, "If things go south, don't fight to the death—retreat and regroup." he further added with a casual tone, "Every fighter lost before the final battle is a wasted resource."
Though Noir had initially expected all the hunters to not be obedient towards him but who had expected that 'merely' defeating an hybrid would skyrocket his reputation?
'It's not a bad thing though.'
...
Soon it was breaktime and everyone was taking rest or busy eating, Noir himself was very 'tired' due to 'speaking' or perhaps 'advising' them a lot.
Munching on the fruits served at his table, 'If I ignore the fact that I might even die during the Ryu invasion, then.. Life isn't that bad.'
Slowly yet fulfillingly Noir ate the fruits.
Letting out a sigh, 'This much should suffice.'
"When are we going to begin 'my' training?" Evelyn added, "You said you would help me control whatever hidden-gem I have." her voice laced with sarcasm.
They say living with diamonds turns one into diamond too, it's definitely not the rotten potato saying.
"Uhh, yes. So tell me, how do you use it?"
"How do I use it?" she repeated. "Well I just say the word 'heal' and it works."
"Haha~ no." Noir added. "Spells nor abilities work like that, even if subconsciously, you still use it through a 'means'. The word 'heal' cannot be the spell." Noir gestured, "To begin with, spells cannot be understood by the chanter, so the 'heal' that you are talking about, is just a mere card for the actual 'means'."
"I don't know how I do it subconsciously."
Noir spoke, his voice firm, "You do know." he added, "Because if you didn't then you won't be able to perform it subconsciously either."
The form repeated itself a few times, beginning with "I don't know" and ending with Noir saying "I've said it all again."
...
Evelyn spoke, "I think I get what you are trying to imply."
"Huh? Did you? FINALLY!" Noir somewhat broke out of character for the first time.
She raised an eyebrow and continued, "Everytime I say 'heal' it doesn't really heals. I mean technically I said 'heal' even now, but did anything happen?"
Noir's expression turned from excited to bored, "No, nothing happened."
"I realized that I am only able to heal other-"
"Your power isn't of healing but rather replacing." Noir interrupted.
Her expression indicated that while she did suspect it, she didn't expect it to be true.
"I see."
Both of them talked continued the talk until Eveyln understood what she couldn't so far.
"A 'means' through which I am able to replace would be.. 'Will' perhaps?" she added, "As I don't really think there's any other way."
"How about trying to replace this fruit with... that fruit." Noir spoke as he pointed towards a purple fruit followed by a green fruit.
Evelyn nodded, stretching out her hand toward the green fruit. Her eyes focused, her breathing steady.
Nothing happened.
A frown formed on her face. "Maybe I need more concentration—"
Before she could finish, the green fruit in her hand twisted unnaturally, its surface warping as if reality itself rejected its existence. Then— it vanished.
The room fell silent.
Noir's eyes narrowed. The purple fruit remained untouched.

His voice dropped to a whisper.
"...You indeed replaced it, but with what?"
Evelyn's breath hitched. "An endless void." she added, "I just saw an endless void."
A cold chill ran through Noir's spine. He didn't have an answer. But something told him–
Whatever it was replaced with, wasn't something in his reach.
