Guide to raise my cutie husbands-Chapter 1492: Harvesting the rice (2)
One of the women immediately ran out of the village to announce that the locust plague was coming. It did not matter if they believed her or not, she was only responsible for announcing the news to the villagers.
If they listened to them then it would benefit them, if they didn’t then it had nothing to do with their village as they had already relayed the news to them.
On the other side, the villagers of the Big River Village were already harvesting the rice that was grown in their paddies.
"It is so hot, I am afraid that we will have to work all night before we can harvest the rice," Aunt Wang sighed. She turned to look at Uncle Fu and said to him, "Go and bring some pancakes with meat in it. We will need the strength to work in the field for an entire night."
They did not have a lot of land but they purchased a few paddies of rice to make it easier for their family to have decent meals.
There was quite a lot of harvest that they needed to do.
Uncle Fu nodded and immediately rushed back home.
Many children brought dried jerky and dried ration along with water pouches for their parents who were working in the field.
"Hiss… My feet.. it is going to get covered with blisters," one of the women hissed as she looked down at the protruding bumps on the back of her foot.
"Quick, go and bring the rest of the new shoes. My feet are burning here, mother and sister must be hurting as well. I cannot harvest the rice in such a situation!"
While people were busy harvesting the rice, the elders who came to overlook the farmers harvesting the rice, couldn’t help but shake their heads.
One of them couldn’t help but remark, "I don’t think the rice will be sold this time." The rice wasn’t even ripe yet how could they even sell it?
The elders were worried and the guards who were standing on the towers that were built inside the village were just as worried. They did not know what to do in case someone attacked them while they were busy with the harvest, but even so, no one dared to lower their guards.
Their worries were one thing but protecting the village was another.
Slowly the sky started to turn dark, if this was before the mers and the mer sons would be sent back home as it was too dangerous for them to wander outside at such an hour.
But at this moment, the mer husbands were helping their wives in the fields while the mer sons played along with their friends without a worry.
The reason for this change was ——
The large walls that surrounded the village were made from concrete and bricks that Yu Dong had created in a hurry. Of course, she did not release these two things in public as she was certain it would attract the attention of Xian Xieren.
On top of the wall, thorns were scattered all over the place. There were also ditches and traps scattered all over the village, other than the villagers no one knew about them.
"I really feel safe. Much more than I used to do before, at least now we don’t have to worry about thieves and unknown women knocking on our doors," a mer stood up from the paddy and wiped his sweat as he looked over at the walls, his face covered with delight and relief.
"Of course with the protective wall, no one other than the member of the village can enter and in case someone unrelated enters they have to tell their names and press their thumbs on the small identity scroll that Madam Yu introduced," said another mer with a voice thick with emotions. "I am so glad that Madam Yu is trying so hard to keep us mers safe."
In the past, many mers lost their lives because of unknown women barging in the village and then trespassing in houses where mers lived alone.
Compared to that, they were in a much better condition.
"I heard that the Big Moutain village also wants to make a wall similar to this one but building this kind of sturdy wall takes a lot of money. The elders are not willing to spend such a sum of money on and Da Qiao cannot convince them," a mer with a swollen belly said as he sighed and handed the two mers cold water that he brought with him.
"It’s really a blessing that our village has someone like Madam Yu. If not for her taking out the money from her own pockets to make this wall we would be in the same situation as the Big Mountain Village."
"You are right," said the first mer with a smile on his face. "It is because of Madam Yu that we can harvest the rice alongside our wives or else we would have suffered a huge loss."
On the other side at the Yu family house, Yu Dong was crouching next to the mammies as she waved the sickle in her hands. Experience tales at novelbuddy
"Madam Yu, you can go and take a rest," one of the mammies said to Yu Dong when she saw how hard Yu Dong was working.
"I can’t," Yu Dong replied as she shook her head. She smiled at the mammies and said to them, "Don’t think too much, I am already making you all work hard by letting the mers rest."
"How can that be?" Mammy Lin waved her hand. "We are servants of the Yu family, it’s good enough that we are treated so well by you madam. How dare we complain about this little work?"
"That’s right, this is not hard work. We can do it alone," Mammy Chou chimed up after Mammy Lin finished speaking.
"Then I should help even more. As long as we can finish harvesting the rice in our rice paddies then we can help others. We don’t have time to waste." Yu Dong smiled as she continued working, seeing her work so hard the mammies were filled with newfound determination.
Of course, some were terrified out of their wits when they saw Yu Dong working so hard.
