Sure enough, as the mammies stepped outside the house, they noticed that the locusts were gone. There were a bunch of nets that held unmoving locusts inside of them while the ground was packed with burnt locusts.

Wherever one looked they could see the ground densely packed with the locusts that had fallen on the ground.

"It seems like half of them was burned, right?" One of the mers who stepped out of the house remarked. Just now everyone was scared silly because of the large size and number of the locusts. Fortunately, the rice had been harvested and placed inside the main house.

Otherwise, they would have to pay Yu Dong for the loss as the rice they were growing belonged to Yu Dong.

They were only allowed to keep a share of it.

If the rice crop was ruined then the villagers shuddered to think about what would have happened to them.

"Look at this, even the last grass blade growing on the field was eaten, this bunch of locusts were really powerful," said Uncle Fu as he looked at the bare land that was stretched in front of them. It was as if they were living in a barren village.

If not for the fact that the villagers remembered how the village looked they would have definitely mistaken it for being a barren land.

"Not just the grass, take a look at the mountains, even the trees are gnawed bare. Not a single leaf is left behind," another villager said with a horrified expression on his face.

"Oh…it is such a pity. My family land still had half a mu of rice left to be harvested but it's all gnawed clean," the old woman sighed. She looked at the field that was eaten until not even a single stalk of rice was left. If not for the fact that her daughter was working in the town, this half of mu of rice would have been harvested as well.

"The production of grain was better this year than the last one, so the losses wouldn't be that bad. Anyway, the locusts only gnawed half of the mu of rice from your paddies. There is someone who lost their entire harvest," a woman spoke as she turned and looked at Old Madam Rong who was lying in the middle of the rice paddies and crying.

The woman seemed to have lost her mind as she grabbed the mud in the paddies and cried.

"Tsk, she deserves it. You have no idea when the locusts arrived in the village, this woman grabbed my wife who was cutting and harvesting the rice in her field. She refused to let my wife escape, if not for my daughter who came running and pushed Old Madam Rong away, my wife would have been bitten bloody!" One of the mers in the village spat on the ground.

"Really? They are really shameless. The villagers helped them harvest more than half of the rice, and yet this family has not an ounce of gratitude for us."

"Gratitude? I will be thankful if they don't cause trouble for us. You don't know when my wife ran away with the rest, they actually called us heartless! Who is heartless? It wasn't like we did not tell them that we were going to harvest rice. They made the decision themselves and now that they have to suffer the consequences, they are acting as if they were wronged."

"Isn't that right? When they saw that no one was helping them, they ran to Rong Yi's house and threatened with filial piety. Old Madam Rong was the loudest, she kept yelling at Rong Yi."

"What? Such a thing happened?" Uncle Fu was startled. He turned to look at Old Madam Rong and remarked with a frown, "That woman is really too much. Has she forgotten how she pushed Rong Yi away from her?"

"If not? In the past, the entire house relied on Rong Yi and Xiao Shiqi to harvest their grains for them. There are more than six sons-in-law in that family but refuse to work. If anything they asked Little Shiqi to work in their stead. Now that they were forced to work in the fields, they complained all the time. I was listening from my house."

Rong Yi was the one who worked and earned the money for the Rong family while Shiqi took care of the household affairs. It could be said that the two of them were the ones who worked while the entire Rong family slept and ate.

"The entire village harvested rice while others stayed at home and slept. And when the locusts arrived they wanted people who worked for an entire night without rest to harvest rice for them! Bah! Truly doesn't understand the meaning of shame."

Yu Dong who stepped out of the house, heard the words of the villagers. She turned to look at Old Madam Rong who was crying while lying on the paddy of rice and sighed. She then turned away her gaze and looked at the villagers.

A few of them looked shaken but other than that, they were completely fine. Seeing that the villagers were alright, Yu Dong heaved a sigh of relief. It was a good thing that they were not hurt, if they were to get infected it would be really troublesome as she had no medicine to deal with locust bites.

There was one ointment but it was for mutated insect bites. She had no idea how it would react when applied to a normal person.

"Everyone collects the locusts that fell on the ground. We are going to make fertiliser from them," Yu Dong had been thinking of speeding up the growth rate of the fruits and cocoa plants. But she couldn't get a good reason to explain the sudden boost in the growth of the trees but if she was to come up with a fertilizer that no one had seen or heard of before…maybe she would be able to pull it off?
