Chapter 589: A True Gem

"Yongrui! It’s really you?" Master Nian was shocked when he saw Qi Yongrui. Though the guards kept telling him about some Qi Yongrui, he could never imagine the Qi Yongrui they were talking about was actually the mer who had lived and stayed in the orphanage where he grew up as well, before being adopted by that poor family.

In the past, when he was taken away before the good-looking Qi Yongrui, Master Nian (Ye Jinglan) had been filled with a hint of smugness in his heart. But now, as he looked at Qi Yongrui, who was dressed in brands from head to toe, he couldn’t help but be filled with a hint of anger and jealousy.

How come this mer was so lucky? Not only did he get adopted by a rich family, but it seemed like he got married to a really rich woman as well. His eyes moved to the big diamond ring on Qi Yongrui’s hand as the latter sat in the wheelchair with his hands in his lap.

And that was the only comfort that Master Nian could get at the moment. At least he could stand tall in front of Qi Yongrui while the other person had turned into a cripple.

’Maybe his wife is an abuser? She must be the one who broke his legs and caused him to become a cripple?’ thought Ye Jinglan. As he hated Qi Yongrui doing better than him, he started to make random guesses, which soothed the jealousy and anger in his heart.

He then spoke to Qi Yongrui, "It has been so many years! When was the last time the two of us ran into one another?" As he spoke, he reached out to hold Qi Yongrui’s hand and shook it.

Qi Yongrui simply hummed as he looked at Master Nian with a frown on his face. It was true that he knew Ye Jinglan, who was now known as Master Nian, but the truth was that even though Master Nian’s image was really good in the eyes of the orphanage’s directors, he never thought that the mer was a good person.

He pulled his hand away from Master Nian and said to him, "These children...are they yours?"

"Oh, yes... yes!" Master Nian nodded as he smiled with a hint of flattery and embarrassment. "I am sorry about showing this little joke to you. My daughter... well, she asked me to buy some meat for her, but you can see I don’t even have money to buy clothes and can only wear these frayed clothes. How can I get money to buy her meat? So she ran out in a fit of temper."

As he finished speaking, he wiped the corners of his eyes and sniffed at the proper time to make others feel pity for him.

When Qi Yongrui heard his response, his frown deepened, but when he thought about how these were not his children and there was nothing that he could do about the current situation, he simply nodded.

He then turned to look at Long Zhong, who nodded and then handed the envelope that he was holding in his hand to Master Nian. he said to him, "What happened today could be counted as our fault, even though the child ran into the car—we should have been paying attention. However, such an accident was still unavoidable."

"But we are willing to accept our mistake, and this is our compensation for the child’s mental and physical damage."

As soon as he finished speaking, Master Nian snatched the envelope from his hands and then said with a smile, "Oh. There was no need for you to compensate me for something so small, but since you are willing to help us widower and orphans out, then who am I to refuse?"

Long Zhong was speechless when he saw the actions of the mer. He turned to look at Qi Yongrui, who shook his head, as he knew that this was the true nature of Master Nian. He wanted to say something along the lines that he shouldn’t waste the money on something other than taking proper care of the children, but then he thought against it and stopped himself.

And even if he wanted to, Qi Yongrui didn’t have the time; the second he opened his mouth, his ringtone stopped him, and as he answered the call, he had to rush out of the hospital’s ward as he was late for the meeting with the client.

Master Nian watched him leave and whistled, "That’s some hard work." He then turned his attention to the envelope that he was holding in his hands and opened it. When he saw more than eighty thousand yuan, he let out a whoop of excitement.

Damn, he didn’t know that getting hit by a car was this lucky. This brat was really fortunate that she ran into Qi Yongrui’s car. Look at this; he actually got eighty thousand yuan from a little bump. If the girl had broken an arm or two, then maybe he would have gotten a million?

At that point, he couldn’t help but slap Nian Zhi harshly a few more times.

"Useless thing! Even wasted this good opportunity. You should have broken your hand or leg. If that had happened, then this cheque would have been worth more than a million. Useless mutt!"

Nian Zhi had just woken up and was disoriented when she was slapped on the face. At first, she could not understand what was going on, but when she did, her face turned ugly. This money was exchanged for her life, and yet this mer thought that it wasn’t enough?

The poor girl had no idea that this good stepfather of hers had started to plan something even more sinister as his bottom line went a whole new low.

On the other side, Luo Huian was lying on the couch with a rather lazy look on her face. Seeing her languidly wasting her time, Xiao Hei was simply disgusted. In the past, she was filled with enough energy to look for people she could help, but these days, she was wasting away her time.

"Can you not do something useful for once?" snapped Xiao Hei when he saw that the woman was simply bent on wasting her life away. "You are still an old immortal at soul, who had cultivated for years! Not to mention, you have the talent to do so. How could you just waste your time and energy like this?"

"It’s not that I am wasting my energy. I am taking a well-deserved break," Luo Huian retorted as she flipped the magazine. "You might not notice it, but I am collecting points even faster after I opened the restaurant. Since I have worked so hard, what’s wrong with resting a little?"

She was telling the truth. After the restaurant opened, the gloom aura among the people had reduced quite a lot, as Luo Huian, instead of using her own skills, started to pour her energy into the spiritual water from the realm of elves. Because of this, the points that she needed to collect had doubled up and she didn’t even need to go out and do any work.

"Luo Huian—" freёnovelkiss.com

BANG!

Before Xiao Hei could speak, the door of the penthouse where Luo Huian was at the moment was pushed open, and in came Madam Han and Bai Shiliu. The two of them were smiling ear to ear as they rushed to where Luo Huian was sitting.

"What? What is it?" Luo Huian asked with a frown as she sat upright but before she could get down from the couch, the two women reached out and carried her in their arms.

Luo Huian: "..."

Dangling in the air like a toddler who had done something wrong, Luo Huian looked down at Bai Shiliu, who was holding her in the air. She blinked her eyes and growled, "I will kill you." Her cat-like eyes filled with rage when she thought about how this woman was trying to humiliate her.

"Now, now... don’t be angry." Bai Shiliu said to Luo Huian as she helped her down on the floor. She then said to her, "We were just a bit excited, as you have helped us a lot."

"By doing what?"

"How generous and kind..." clapped Madam Han as she wiped her eyes on a handkerchief. "I never thought that you were this modest, Miss Huian. Sure enough, the sister of a tigeress could never be a hyena."

Luo the hyena Huian: "...."

"Are you trying to pick a fight with me?" She asked, feeling like they were insulting her for no reason.

"Of course not! We just came here to tell you that we have won the bid for the dungeon that you asked us to buy, and it’s just like you said. It is indeed filled with ivy crystals. I believe that with this, the budget problems of the guild will soon be over! You are truly a gem, Miss Huian. How did you even find that the dungeon was of Ivy Crystal?"
