Guide To Train My Beast Husbands-Chapter 219: We need to run.
"Mother!"
Xie Daiyu burst inside the cave; his face was etched with worry as he strode right into the small chamber where his mother was lying. When he saw the gashes on her back, Xie Daiyu felt his heart lurch to his throat. It wasn’t like he hadn’t seen his mother get injured before. It had happened many times in the past. But this was the first time he had seen his mother in such a perilous condition.
His mother knew that the entire tribe relied on her, and so, she had never taken a risk that would put her life at risk. But they never expected that someone would actually attack her in their tribe.
"Daiyu?" Chief Xie turned to look at Xie Daiyu when she heard his son’s voice. She raised her head slightly and peered up at Xie Daiyu. "What are you doing here?" She then turned to look at her husband and said to him in a reproachful voice, "Did I not say that you shouldn’t tell anything to Daiyu? Why did you tell him?"
Father Xie glared at his wife and said to her, "How can I not tell him? Do you even know how scared I was when I heard that you were attacked?" Father Xie could still feel his heartbeat escalate whenever he thought of how one of the totem warriors came running with his wife in her arms. Chief Xie had no idea what he went through when he saw his wife covered in blood and injuries.
Ruan Chanchan also walked over. She saw the long gashes on Chief Xie’s back and front and frowned. She never expected Chief Xie’s wounds to be so serious. When she heard that Chief Xie had been attacked, she expected some minor injuries, but she never expected that the woman had been attacked so badly that she would make a man mangled by a grizzly bear look cute.
"What happened?" Xie Daiyu demanded. His fingers were clenched tightly as he turned to look at the totem warrior who brought his mother back to the territory of the tribe.
The woman looked terrified upon being glared at by Xie Daiyu. The pressure alone made the woman shiver in fright. She wanted to take a step back and run out of the cave, but she knew that it was simply impossible. She turned to look at the people around her as if waiting for them to come and save her, but when no one stepped forward, she knew that no one was going to save her.
The woman sucked in a breath and then lowered her head before saying, "I don’t know. I just heard someone scream —and I was worried that someone was getting attacked by the death hunters, so I went to take a look. Who would have expected that I would find Chief Xie lying on the ground with blood pooled around her?"
"You didn’t see anyone?" Xie Daiyu persisted. He was determined to get an answer from her; someone dared to attack his mother in their territory. How could they let them go?
Especially him.
The woman swallowed hard. She had a feeling that the second she said that she didn’t, Xie Daiyu would kill her.
"I—"
"Alright," Mother Ye placed her hand on Xie Daiyu’s forearm when she sensed that the mer was on the verge of losing his temper at the woman. "Why are you losing your temper? If someone dared to attack the chief, do you think they would wait around for someone to catch them?"
Xie Daiyu let out a growl, but Mother Ye stayed put. She didn’t even flinch and watched the mer calmly. Her grip on the mer’s forearm tightened, and Mother Ye explained in a low voice, "Think clearly, Daiyu. If someone attacked the chief, they knew that the tribe would chase after the attacker. Do you want to do exactly what they want?"
"They attacked my mother—"
"Daiyu!"
When Ruan Chanchan saw Xie Daiyu losing his temper, she raised her voice and called the mer. Her voice was loud and firm, which snapped Xie Daiyu out of his daze. He turned to look at her with a bewildered and affronted look on his face, but Ruan Chanchan stayed calm. She said to him, "Listen to what the elders are telling you. Since they want you to stay in the territory, you should stay in the territory."
"I—"
"Listen to me," said Ruan Chanchan to the mer. She could understand what Xie Daiyu was going through, but at the same time, she knew that what Mother Ye and the rest were saying was also correct. If they were to chase after the attacker, there was a very good chance that their tribe would be attacked. It was better to swallow this harsh pill than lose the entire country. A small loss was always better than a bigger one.
Xie Daiyu stared at Ruan Chanchan for a good two minutes. Seeing him like this, many of the people in the tribe stiffened, as they were worried that he would attack Ruan Chanchan in his anger, but to their surprise, Xie Daiyu lost his temper and deflated like a small ball buffon. The mer pursed his lips and then glanced at Ruan Chanchan. Usually, he would have indeed lost his temper, but for some reason, with Ruan Chanchan’s presence, his anger seemed to be simmering down.
He closed his eyes and then said to Ruan Chanchan, "Alright, I wouldn’t chase after them." Even though it killed him, Xie Daiyu still backed down under the command of his destined one.
When Ruan Chanchan heard his response, she heaved a sigh of relief. She was worried that he would lose his rationality due to his anger. Fortunately, the mer was still willing to listen to her and didn’t lose his mind.
Chief Xie was also relieved, and at the same time, she was glad that she didn’t stop Xie Daiyu from getting close to his destined one or else, who knows, maybe this brat would have really gone down to hunt those who attacked her.
"What happened?" Once Xie Daiyu calmed down enough, Mother Ye turned to look at her good friend. She asked in a soft voice, "Who attacked you? Did you see anyone?"
"I didn’t." Mother Ye winced softly because even moving her lips made her suffer. She lifted her eyes and looked at Mother Ye, who was frowning hard and said to her, "But I did smell the scent of the sea when that person attacked me."
As soon as she finished speaking, Mother Ye’s expression changed, and she punched the wall next to her. "Damn those snakes. They had already snatched our territory from us, but they are still not giving up. What else do they want? Don’t tell me that they will only stop when they have wiped us all out?" Mother Ye was upset and angry, while the elders were fearful.
They ran to this place because they wanted to avoid getting entangled with the black snake tribe. And yet, even after giving up on everything, those beasts were still chasing after them? They had to be kidding.
"We should start looking for another territory. If the black snake tribe attacks us again, at least we would have a place to stay," said one of the elders.
"He is right. What if we get attacked again? It’s better to leave—"
"Are you serious?" Ye Qian Qian, who had been standing silently till now, couldn’t stay quiet any longer. She raised her head and turned to look at the elders who were speaking. She pursed her lips and said angrily, "Those bastards are just trying to eradicate us because they fear that we will take our tribe back. No matter where we go, they will come down to hunt us. Don’t tell me that we will continue running all our lives instead of standing tall and fighting back?"
She paused and added, "Do you even know what everyone in the community is calling us? They call us cowards."
What Ye Qian Qian hated the most was being called a coward. And because their tribe lost their territory, everyone in the other tribes continued to call her a coward, and the rest of the tribe was no better off. When she thought about how the elders were filled with fear instead of rage that someone dared to barge within their territory and attack them, she felt disgusted. Were these people really the heroes of the tribe? Because if they were, then she was going to start doubting either the history of their tribe or the strength of their enemies.
"Ye Qian Qian, is this how you should be talking to us?"
When the elders heard her disrespectful tone, they frowned and one of them couldn’t help but berate Ye Qian Qian angrily.
"I am just stating facts." Ye Qian Qian deadpanned. She didn’t think that there was anything wrong with what she said. They were totem warriors. The protectors of the tribe and not some bloody cowards who would run away at every tribulation.
