Guide To Train My Beast Husbands-Chapter 240: Hollowed Oak
Xie Daiyu didn’t even turn. With a snap of his fingers, he shifted.
In the blink of an eye, fur erupted across his skin as his body started to expand into his bear form once again. He looked larger than before, muscles rolling beneath his thick hide. He caught the python’s strike mid-lunge, and with his feet twisting to the left, he struck the python, clamping his jaws down on its neck with brutal precision.
The ground went silent.
"Woah... he is bigger than before?" Ruan Chanchan stared at the bear in front of her, and her eyes widened in surprise, as she had not expected him to suddenly turn bigger than he usually was.
"It’s not a surprise," explained Yuan Ni with a hint of admiration, even though he felt envious of the mer. "A totem guardian manifests a bigger and stronger form under emotional distress."
Ruan Chanchan, the emotional distress: "..."
Xie Daiyu, who was still biting the python, growled.
Yuan ni coughed. "And unadulterated rage."
Aunt Ye charged a second later.
The elder bear slammed into the python’s coils, roaring as glowing totems flared across her body. Between her brute force and the protective instincts of a mother to protect her tribe’s children, the river guardian was shaken. Aunt Ye pushed him back while Xie Daiyu placed more of his weight on the python.
"Daiyu, to the left! LEFT! Take him to the left," said Ruan Chanchan while pointing to the weakest side of the cliff. "You can use the loose soil—"
Xie Daiyu shifted at once. He slammed the python onto the ground with an earth-shattering thud. As soon as the body of the python hit the ground, the soil loosened even more, and the rocks came tumbling down, making the entire ground tremble as if there was an earthquake.
As the dust settled, silence stretched through the clearing.
Then–
Xie Daiyu shifted back. He turned and looked at Ruan Chanchan before walking straight to her.
When everyone saw him making his way towards Ruan Chanchan, they all sucked in their breaths. Xie Daiyu stopped inches from her. And before Ruan Chanchan could understand what the mer was trying to do, he raised his hand and flicked her forehead.
FLICK.
The sound echoed in the silent clearing, and Ruan Chanchan stumbled back.
"OW!"
"Do you even know?" he said quietly. "How reckless was this?"
Ruan Chanchan rubbed the spot that he had flicked and muttered angrily, "I just solved the problem of the tribe not getting water in the summer."
"By almost dying."
"Focus on almost. I didn’t die. Did I?"
His jaw tightened when he heard Ruan Chanchan’s responses. He had to admit that this woman was either too brave or too much of an idiot. Who would wake up a river guardian and say that she successfully made sure that their tribe would get water?
Aunt Ye shifted back into human form and cracked her neck from left to right. She sighed and said, "Girl," she said in a tired voice. "You have both excellent survival instincts and a suicidal planning mind. I have to say that this is a terrible combination."
Ruan Chanchan beamed. "Then thank you?"
The river guardian lowered its head and turned to look at the puny woman in front of it.
’I will let this stream flow down the terrain,’ it rumbled.
Ruan Chanchan’s eyes lit up. "Are you for real?"
For now.
The guardian snorted. Remember to make my statues and establish them in your tribe. If I do not start receiving offerings, then I will make sure that the stream stops, and you shall feel my wrath.
The river guardian then shifted and returned to the river.
The water pillars sank down, and the river went calm.
Ruan Zeqiu collapsed onto the rock. "Sister, you need to start living peacefully. Or else I will need to plan an early retirement."
Xie Daiyu finally felt his composure crack. He turned to look at Ruan Chanchan, and in return, she stepped back. Raising her hands in the air, she said to the mer, "I know that you are upset, but you shouldn’t do anything that you shouldn’t. I mean—I am not—"
Before she could finish speaking, the mer reached out and pulled her into his chest.
Hard.
She froze—however, a few seconds later, Ruan Chanchan felt her body melt into the arms of the mers. She softly asked, "What’s the matter? Are you alright?"
His voice was low as he replied, "Don’t scare me like that." 𝐟𝗿𝐞𝚎𝚠𝐞𝚋𝕟𝐨𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝕔𝕠𝚖
Ruan Chanchan smiled against his shoulder. "Didn’t you come to save me?"
"Always," he said.
Aunt Ye cleared her throat loudly. "Alright, you two. We need to be careful; the python might have been buried under the rocks. There is always a chance that the python might come out of there."
As soon as she finished speaking, the shadow moved beneath the coils.
The ground rumbled, and everyone whipped their heads to look at Aunt Ye.
Ruan Chanchan stepped back and turned to look at the woman who had ruined the situation by opening the crow’s mouth.
As the water started to rise again, the python’s body started twitching. And something else started to crawl out from the fractured earth beneath it. Ruan Chanchan swallowed.
"...why does it feel like we are going to end up passing through game levels?" Ruan Chanchan looked at the crack, which seemed to be getting bigger with each passing second and turned to look at Xiao Xi. "As soon as we finished beating one boss, the other one popped right away."
Xie Daiyu’s arms tightened around her, and he stepped back along with her.
As the boulders started to shift, the sky started to darken further, and then the ground split open.
