Chapter 256: Who Allowed You To Do That (II)

Hearing his response, Shao Xia smiled at the mer pleasantly. She patted him on the shoulders and said to him, "Very good, Hei Ya. Make sure that you follow me; I promise that you will have a good life. I have already told Xiaoyan to take you as her mate. She will definitely agree to bring you to his cave. Have some kids with her and work hard to give birth to countless totem warriors." Shao Xia’s voice was very light, as if she was talking about what she was going to eat today.

"Really? Thank you, thank you..." Hei Ya’s smile was worse than crying. He knew that Xiao Yan was working under Shao Xia’s team and she was a strong totem warrior but at the same time she was also a strong follower of Shao Xia and listened to whatever she said to her. But everyone knew that Xiao Yan liked someone else and had no intention of taking him as her mate.

By making her take him as her mate, Shao Xia wasn’t doing him a favour but instead she was trapping him into a trap that he couldn’t sneak out from.

Shao Xia smiled at Hei Ya, who smiled back but his smile was worse than crying.

Ruan Chanchan had no idea that she had been in and out of trouble so many times. She was currently walking up and down the slope while watching a few tribe members making a statue out of mud and dried straw. This was a promise that Ruan Chanchan had made to the river guardian and she was in no mood to not fulfil it. What if she went to the river and the river guardian got upset with her because of the lack of offerings or the delay? It was better to just fulfil the promise that she had made with him.

For the sake of letting this statue stick together, she even spent three hours grinding the rice flour and turned it sticky such that the statue won’t fall apart.

I better tell the river guardian that I will make a better statue of him when I unlock a new level or else...he will start picking faults with me.

Aunt Zhu, who was stirring the rice sludge, questioned in a low voice, "Is this okay, Ruan Chanchan?"

Ruan Chanchan looked at the slightly deformed statue and nodded. "It’s okay. Let it dry."

Anyway, no one could blame her for this. This statue was made with limites supplies and it should be good enough for the river guardian.

With their limited supplies, what else could the river guardian even want? It was better than nothing, right?

With a soft smile on her lips, she turned to look at Aunt Zhu and said to her, "You really did a good job."

Her little praise made Aunt Zhu smile like a shy little girl. She waved her hand and said to Ruan Chanchan, "There is no need for you to praise me so much. This was nothing." Though she said that, she was smiling ear to ear.

Ruan Chanchan simply smiled back at the woman; she knew very well how a small praise could bring a smile to the lips of someone. She then thanked the rest of the tribe members, who came to help them in making the statue of the river guardian.

The tribe members looked at Ruan Chanchan, who was thanking them. They were all filled with gratitude and overwhelmed with tears in their eyes. "It’s nothing. Don’t thank us, Chanchan." They were just useless members of the tribe and they had nothing to do in the tribe. Now they could do some tasks which were not difficult and earn their keep. This alone was good enough for them.

Because of their incompetence, every time they wanted to eat, they had to hide in the corner and wait for the tribe members to throw their leftovers to one side. And they would eat what the tribe members left behind. In winter, they suffer from hunger and cold. Sometimes when the other members of the tribe saw them eating the leftovers, they would roll their eyes and mock them. Never once were they praised or treated with respect. Because of this, these people were filled with nothing but despair.

They all thought that they were worth nothing and they didn’t even deserve the bare minimum respect.

This was the first time someone had treated them with respect and that too with such kindness.

Ruan Chanchan’s attitude had long won their hearts.

"Of course not. You are very good, and you have been helping me a lot. You deserve this thanks." Ruan Chanchan shook her head. She knew that these tribes’ members had done a good job. While making this statue, all she needed to do was to move her mouth, and other than that, she didn’t need to do anything. Many things she couldn’t do were solved by them.

Ruan Chanchan only had to walk the talk but they were the ones who had the hardest time doing it, but the credit was still there.

"Then what should we do now? What are we supposed to do with this statue?" Chief Xie looked at the miniature statue of the river guardian and shivered from head to toe. These people were crazy. They actually fought with this thing? Were they crazy or was she the crazy one? She had no idea.

Maybe I am the crazy one. Even my own son was not scared of this guardian... so why am I feeling scared?

Chief Xie shook her head and turned to look at Ruan Chanchan and heaved a sigh of relief when her gaze fell on the woman who looked like she was walking out after taking a shower in the moonlight.

"We will set up an empty cave as the temple of the river guardian and provide him with offerings every day. That should be enough to keep him happy—"

CRASH!

"Who allowed you to do that?"
