Ruan Chanchan, however, didn’t pay any attention to the reaction of the mer. Instead, she turned all her attention to the meat that was cooking in the pot. She continued to stir the meat until the fibres had softened. Once the meat had softened, the first thing she did was to scoop it out, take a bone knife and then fillet through the nice and soft meat.

Xiang Mei nodded, and Ruan Chanchan smiled at him. She scooped out some curry from the vat and then ladled it into a small bowl that she carried with her, and then handed the bowl to the mer. "You can have some."

Xiang Mei gingerly took the bowl from Ruan Chanchan as if he were holding a bowl of treasure. He took a bite of the curry, and his eyes lit up. The creamy, slightly sweet and rich curry had all the right flavours that captured the ocean taste. But what made him even more surprised was that there was not a single trace of fishiness in the curry; it was as if it had been washed clean!

Sizzle.

He was still lost in the sweet delish in front of him when he heard the sound of sizzling. He raised his head and looked in the direction from which the sizzling sound was coming. It was then that he saw Ruan Chanchan putting the maelshark meat on the slab and turning it around. One had to know that while maelshark meat was really nutritious, it was smelly and it didn’t taste good even in the slightest. But at that moment, the smell that was wafting from the meat was really good!

How was that even possible!?

"Miss Ruan...how do you know so much? " said Xiang Mei. All along, everyone in the tribe kept mocking the Big Bear Tribe, saying that they were too poor and didn’t have many skills. Once the meal was prepared, she served herself a generous amount of rice with curry before topping it with the grilled meat.

She thought that the pot had broken, and that was where the hissing sound was coming from, but even after she wasted a good three minutes, she didn’t find any crack in the pot, which made her frown. She was about to pick up the thing and see where it had broken when she heard Xiang Mei sneeze.

It was then she realised that the hissing sound was not coming from the pot but was coming from the little mer behind her!

Sighing, she slowly turned to look at the mer who had been shedding tears for no reason. She asked him, "Why are you crying? Was the food not good?"

The mer shook his head. He said to Ruan Chanchan, "It is just too good. I have never eaten something so good before. I wonder how Miss Ruan even came up with such a good thing."

Of course, Ruan Chanchan couldn’t tell the mer the truth. So she simply shrugged and said, "Well, you can say that it is my innate skill." After all, telling the mer that she came from another world was not up on her roster.
