Half-Hearted: Mr. Sinclair, Stop the Act!-Chapter 214: Confrontation and Defense (Revised Edition)
After a while, the door to the emergency internal medicine rescue room opened, and the tall figure who had exchanged a few seconds of distant eye contact with Sienna Monroe, whom the nurse called "Professor Fuller," walked out.
Luke Wynn’s gaze remained on her, his clear and gentle voice not matching the solemn and austere atmosphere of the emergency department at all.
"Are you Claire Grant’s family?"
"No..."
Sienna Monroe shook her head and was about to explain.
"Claire Grant’s family is still on their way. If there’s anything, you can tell us first." Sebastian Prescott naturally took over the conversation.
The doctor’s gaze shifted slightly, looking at him and asking, "Who are you to Claire Grant?"
In a calm voice, Sebastian said, "Friends."
"How much do you know about her congenital heart disease and leukemia?"
"Leukemia?"
Sebastian was slightly taken aback, looking bewildered.
He knew about the congenital heart disease, but leukemia...
He had never heard of it.
How could there be leukemia?
Could it be...
Suddenly, he recalled over five years ago, when Claire Grant insisted on breaking off the engagement between the two families and then went abroad alone.
This thought made him frown instantly.
Hearing the doctor’s voice, he immediately gathered his thoughts and smoothly answered several questions the doctor asked about the congenital heart disease.
Sienna Monroe listened silently beside him, subconsciously glancing at Sebastian. 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶
Other than leukemia, he seemed to know Claire Grant’s other medical conditions quite well.
Later, the doctor also explained to them the cause of Claire Grant’s current episode, the measures taken, as well as the issues regarding her gastrointestinal discomfort.
These were all professional medical terms.
Most of these Sienna didn’t quite understand, so she didn’t interject.
After the doctor left, Sebastian summarized the key point for her, "Don’t worry, Claire Grant’s not in any life-threatening danger, though her heart condition does require some conservative treatment at the hospital for a while."
Sienna relaxed a little after hearing that.
It’s good that there is no life-threatening danger.
In that case, the rest of the matters aren’t her concern, and a few days later when her condition stabilizes, she can visit her again through the art gallery.
Just as she was about to leave, she suddenly saw a hurried figure coming over from afar.
Even from a dozen meters away, she could see the woman’s striking appearance, and the closer she got, it became clear that her fine brows and eyes bore a five-to-six-tenths resemblance to Claire Grant.
Despite the rush and mess, it wasn’t hard to see the elegance in her gestures and the nobility adorned by her luxurious outfit.
Without having to think twice, she could guess that this woman was probably the older sister of Claire Grant that Sebastian had mentioned earlier.
The Second Miss Grant.
"Sebastian, where’s Claire? How is she?"
Claire’s sister Serena Grant had already stopped in front of Sebastian, worry all over her fair, pretty face.
Sebastian greeted her coolly and succinctly explained Claire’s current condition.
Knowing that Claire Grant was not in any life-threatening danger, Serena felt a little relieved.
She glanced at the door of the rescue room, "Is she still not out?"
Sebastian shook his head.
"Claire’s condition has been stable for years, how did she suddenly relapse? I’ll call mom and dad to avoid them worrying on the way."
Serena frowned, her face slightly distressed, just as she pulled out her phone to call, her gaze inadvertently fell on Sienna Monroe beside them.
She recognized her at once.
Even prettier than the photos in the reports.
She sure has the looks to be a seductress.
She lifted her eyebrows with innate arrogance, looking down upon her, "So you’re Sienna Monroe? What are you doing here?"
Sienna did not miss the contempt and scrutiny in her eyes.
Even though both the Monroe and Grant families were renowned scholarly families in the Imperial City, they had no connections.
And there would be no entanglements in the future.
Therefore, she didn’t bother to introduce herself and just nodded slightly as a gesture.
She casually explained, "I brought Miss Grant to the hospital. Since she’s fine, I’ll take my leave now."
With that, she nodded at Sebastian and turned to leave.
But her arm was suddenly grabbed.
The grip was not light.
Sienna frowned, turned back, and saw it was Serena Grant holding her, with some anger in her expression, speaking with accusation right away.
"You brought Claire to the hospital? Did she suddenly fall ill because of you? What did you do to her? Did you deliberately try to harm her?"
To talk about it, besides Claire, this was the first official encounter Sienna had with the Grant Family.
The renowned scholarly Grant Family of the Imperial City, she did not expect them to behave this way.
It truly refreshed her perception.
She freed her arm, countered unceremoniously, "Second Miss Grant so confidently accuses me of intentionally harming Claire, do you have any evidence? If not, making baseless conspiracy claims,
what? Do you feel that defamation doesn’t add enough color to the Grant Family’s reputation?"
Serena paused mid-sentence, facing Sienna’s candid gaze, her anger grew even more.
"You... sharp-tongued! If it wasn’t for you, how could Claire suddenly fall ill? How could it be such a coincidence..."
"Enough!"
Sebastian couldn’t seem to listen anymore, interrupting her sharply with a clear, thin anger, and stepped forward to shield Sienna behind him.
He looked at Serena with extreme coldness, his tone carrying an edge, "She was just kind enough to bring Claire to the hospital, if Second Miss Grant doesn’t want to thank her, then accusing her indiscriminately, do you think she shouldn’t have done it?"
Serena was stunned, she didn’t expect Sebastian to speak to her that way.
Sebastian was always cold, but he was remarkably polite.
Even after the engagement with Claire was annulled, his attitude toward the Grant Family didn’t change.
He had never been so firm and harsh before.
He didn’t even call her "Serena," just simply addressed as "Second Miss Grant."
She stood there blankly looking at the stern, unfriendly face in front of her, then at the beautiful face of Sienna Monroe shielded by him.
Too shocked to speak, "Sebastian, you... how can you stand by..."
"Since Second Miss Grant, the family member, is here, we have no obligation to stay any longer. We’ll take our leave now."
Sebastian knew Serena’s personality too well, he ignored her astonishment, maintained the last bit of courtesy, and nodded slightly.
And led Sienna away.
Sienna glanced at Sebastian’s rather stern profile, pursed her lips, barely sparing a cool glance at Serena’s flushed, angry face before following Sebastian’s steps.
