Handler XX: Stock Maestro-Chapter 24: Greet the Stars for me
Chapter 24: Greet the Stars for me
"If you’re seeing this, I’m dead" Seren Rotschen exhaled, dropping his head.
Trent paused the video, eyes widened. Why does bad things just keep happening to me? Fuck.
He exhaled, tapping the mousepad to continue.
"You shouldn’t be watching this— it’s that dangerous, Son"
Son? Sorry dude, your kids sold off the place as soon as they could. How pitiful.
"... Even though you’re not my Son"
What?
"Just kidding..." Seren laughed adjusting the camera.
This fucking old man... Just get to the point.
"Whoever you are, still watching this... It means you’re ready to face the consequences"
He wiped his mouth with a cloth as he coughed. "I warned you" his face turned serious.
Trent gulped as he watched the recording— secrets of various politicians and government officials, secret meetings between powerful people and even operations of the NIA.
What was this crazy old Man thinking recording something like this?
"... That’s all" Seren concluded, coughing.
"Congratulations, You’ve become more dangerous— If you mean to be" he looked straight at the camera.
"And a target when you are"
"May the star force be with you"
The video cut and disappeared from the file immediately— completely.
Trent searched for it but couldn’t find it. Like it was never there.
How is that possible?
He unplugged the drive and called Theo out.
"You look worried... Is my Boss having an issue?" Theo glanced at him as he carried the laptop.
"Seren Rotschen— how much do you know about him?" Trent turned to him.
"Professor Rotschen?"
"Senator..."
"He was a professor before he became a senator— very brilliant man. He’s even won a Clementine award for his contribution to technology"
"Clementine award? What’s that?"
Theo exhaled, raising a brow, "It’s the highest award recognized by the whole world— and he’s won it"
"Why did such a genius enter politics?" Trent sighed, holding the drive tightly.
"I don’t know... You should ask Ange, he’s her role model"
"Guess I will" Trent exhaled
"Draft a contract you think is fine and send it to me— amount stays the same... I’ve been busy lately"
"Really?" Theo’s eyes lit up, "You don’t want a legal team to check it?"
"They’ll check it— I’ll tell the secretary to meet you soon" Trent replied as he walked off.
"Secretary?" Theo looked at him, surprised.
_____________
"Fucking Rotschen..." Trent muttered as he hailed a taxi. If he was such a genius, while go into politics?
He entered as a taxi parked at his front, "Sheraton Hotel"
"20" the driver replied sharply.
A good nap would cool his mind down from the sudden reveal. What a fucked up life— not even being able to enjoy his money.
He stepped out of the taxi as it parked, handing the driver the money.
What’s happening?— he sighted Marie, standing outside with some workers as he walked closer.
"What’s going on?" He whispered into her ear.
"Shit..." She flinched, turning back to him— fists set to strike
"Really, Man?..."
Some of the workers standing besides her giggled as they watched.
"I’m sorry, scaredy cat" Trent chuckled.
"What’s going on?"
"A rude customer— brought out a knife to threaten the staffs. Terna’s not around, so she said to help"
"What about the Manager?"
She pointed at a staff receiving treatment, "He was pushed and hurt his head... Poor lad"
Trent laughed softly, "I didn’t know you cared so much. Perhaps you just don’t care for YOUR husband"
"Perhaps I care enough to stab MY husband and treat him myself" she replied with a grin.
"You’re never getting married with this attitude" Trent said, with a deep sigh
"Too bad— I already am"
Trent looked at her— the sight of her seemed to lift the burden off his shoulders.
"Yeah?... Which dumb fuck agreed to that?" He chuckled as they walked towards the room
"Ah. Kim said we can move in tomorrow" she turned to him.
"What will you do about the butler and maid?"
"What do you think?"
"Let’s test them out— place is too big to manage"
"Alright. It’d be my pleasure to stay with you, Mrs."
"Drop it" she chuckled.
____________
"Hello, Boss..."
"S–Serta..." he turned to Marie as they walked to the room.
Marie glanced at him and walked past, "have fun"
"Ugh..." He groaned, "Right now is not a good time, Scarlet"
"Why? Got a problem with the wife?" Scarlet chuckled.
"...what’s this about? Better be blue"
"It’s blue alright... Little Marc got blue balls too"
"What? Get to the point"
"Poor Raymond killed himself— willed all his properties to a secret child. We can buy them off immediately if you say the word"
"What?" He asked, shocked, walking past his room door towards the end of the hallway.
"Yep..."
"Fuck..."
He thought silently for a while, "That’s the script, huh?"
"I think you mean thank you, Serta"
"You’re one crazy person" he exhaled, holding his head
"I love you too..." she chuckled.
"We’ll sort this out if it’s clean— can’t have issues. You’ll meet somebody later"
"You’re one mean Boss, you know?" She huffed, hanging up.
He turned back, walking into the room.
_________
"What was that?— better not say work" She glanced at him as he entered.
He exhaled as their eyes met,
"Don’t give me the confidential bullshit too— I know it’s your business but I’m just trying to be your partner here"
Partner, huh? Sounds nice... He sat down on the bed close to her
"The crook owner— he’s dead. Suicide"
She turned to him slowly, "You killed him?"
"Of course not— he killed himself"
"Cut the bullshit— it’s too smooth for a story"
"You think I killed him?" He glanced at her.
"Not you— SERTA" she replied with a grin. "She’s not a regular secretary"
Did she catch onto something? He turned his face away.
"She’s a mercenary— checked with Angela" he lied.
She looked at his face. "Alright..."
"Just take care"
"New mission initializing..." Ave’s voice cut in.
He flinched as he heard the voice. About damn time.
"You alright?" Marie asked as she stood up, surprised.
He smiled at her, shaking his head.
"Hotel Mersi. Meet target. 4 hours"
Time? And no special rewards? Fuck...
His phone rang as soon as he laid down. He groaned as he reached to check the caller— Anton.
"It’s a great day to be Chief isn’t it? Want me to bring more drinks"
"Is Marie there?" Anton whispered— his tone serious.
Trent sat up— swift and alert, looking over to the side of the bathroom freeweɓnøvel~com
"No— got a problem?" He whispered back.
"I’d prefer if she sat this one out" Anton exhaled.
"Her friend— a handler that graduated same time with her, Raya. She worked for Anton"
He went silent for a while and took a deep breath, "I want you to eliminate her..."
"You can send anybody else, Man— why me" Trent stood up and walked towards the door.
"The other agents will be screened again— I only trust you right now. And she’s meeting a contact at Hotel Mersi in 4 hours"
"Mersi?..."
"Yeah— Really fancy place. Fancy enough to broker a deal"
"... I’ll call you later" Trent ended the call as Marie stepped out of the bathroom.
She looked at him as he tucked his phone away. "Confidential?" She asked with a smirk.
"Work— I need to head out later" he smiled.
She chuckled as he dried her hair. What a dry lie. "It’s almost 3 pm... I feel sleepy" she yawned as she sat on the bed.
"Me too— a little afternoon nap won’t hurt, I guess"
"Yeah— just don’t roll over to me. I’ll punch you"
"I don’t roll" he laughed as he walked towards the bathroom, taking his jacket off.
"Right..." She scoffed, "and I don’t sleep talk"
"You wish..."

"How’s this Raya person like?"
"I’ll send you the picture— she’s dangerous. My sources say she’s alone but you’ve got to be careful"
He looked at his phone as the notification came in.
"... Seen. This guy’s the contact? And why don’t your sources take her out?" He stared at the picture.
"...Yeah. The reception will give you a cloned key card. Take care, kid" Anton sighed as he cut the call.
Was this above his power? Something doesn’t seem right. Trent stared at the screen, looking up as he pulled into the resort.
"Welcome" the valet walked up to him, catching the key.
Trent walked straight in and confirmed with the reception, before walking to the elevator.
He walked out of the elevator as he reached the Private rooms— took a deep breath and looked at the card.
He cocked his gun and walked forward— slowly and carefully.
As soon as he entered the room, Raya reached for her bag and he shot her hand, startling the guest she had.
"Target spotted" Ave confirmed.
"Hi..." He smiled, looking up at the Man. He kicked Raya’s bag away, pointing the gun.
"I chose the wrong side of the coin, huh?" She smiled
"Sadly..." He exhaled, tilting his head.
He hesitated as he held the trigger. This isn’t the time to be soft, Trent.
"Greet the stars for me"
Bang.
He heard the cocking of a gun and turned around sharply, gripping tightly on the gun.
"What are you doing here?"
