Chapter 27 - Second Stage

"With all said and done let the battle stage begin."

A large holographic board materialized at the center of the ring, its luminous surface flickering to life.

Names and images of the first fighters to battle flashed across it, casting an ethereal glow over the arena.

"For the first Round, we have Lady Kaori vs Rick Shaw!" The principal announced.

Lady Kaori took hee place on the left side of the ring while Rick, her opponent took his place on the left side of the ring. Tension rose as Lady Kaori had a mischievous smile as she glanced at Rick.

Mason's eyes widened in disbelief as he stared down at Rick from the spectators seat, it was the same man Lady Kaori harassed earlier.

"Tch, damn it."

"It's that commoner who tried standing up to Lady Kaori."

"What? How in the world was he allowed to take the entrance exam? Aren't commners known for their incredibly low spiritual energy?"

"No, the question is how did he survive the previous stage?"

The whispers of the spectators consisting majorly of nobles filled the air.

"Before we begin, I believe it is proper to lay out the set rules. No killing is allowed, the moment your opponent is injured to the point he can't move you win. With that cleared out."

A barrier appeared at the four sides of the large ring to prevent the spectators from being caught up in the crossfire. "Let the battle begin!" Principal Selena's voice rang out, clear and commanding, signaling the commencement of the first match.

"You're that precarious low life from earlier." A smile crept up Lady Kaori's lips, the embarrassment she suffered because of Rick earlier ate her up from the inside.

"The shame of bowing before a commoner, the overpowering feeling of helplessness I felt... It's all your fault, you disgusting tad pole!"

Her energy ignited like a swirling purple firestorm, engulfing the entire ring in a dense, smoky haze. The air crackled with raw power, and the ground trembled beneath the weight of her presence.

It was as if the very atmosphere had been transformed into a living, breathing entity, pulsating with vibrant violet hues. The participants stood in stunned silence, feeling the oppressive force of her energy settle over them despite the barrier separating them.

"This energy.." Neo's whisper trembled in the charged air, his eyes widened with disbelief, as if the very essence of the arena had turned against him.

The energy radiating from Lady Kaori was nothing short of ferocious—an untamed force that crackled and surged with relentless fury.

[Hostile energy detected]

'What? Even the system interpreted it as hostile? Wait, does that mean that..' Mason's eyes was fixed upon the arena immediately, his teeth gritting in slight annoyance.

Lady Kaori had no intentions of leaving him unscathed.

Despite the fear tugging at his chest, Rick took a deep breath. "Let's have a good matc-"

BOOM!

With an explosive speed, Lady Kaori propelled herself at Rick who only saw her as a blur. In a swift instant, Lady Kaori held him by the throat tightly. Enraged at his choice of words.

"What did you say? Good match?"

She chuckled softly, tightening his grip on his neck as he struggled to breathe.

"Hmph!"

With a low grumble, Rick extended his arms sideways, and from the ring beneath them, several arrows materialized, their shafts gleaming ominously.

'Earth Spirit-Technique: Piercing Arrows!'

The fragments of the ring, now arrows descended swiftly at her, with a quick reaction, she released her grip on his neck and leaped backwards. But not after one of the arrows impaled her shoulder.

With a solid foothold on the ground, Rick gasped for air, standing ready for the battle at hand.

"Don't assume I am weak just because I am a commoner, or it will come back to bite you at the end." He declared with a slight smug, feeling a sense of self confidence after managing to inflict damage on her.

"He actually held his own against her." Mason muttered with a smile, it was a relief to see that Rick could stand his ground against the arrogant noble.

'It's all thanks to the extra training I put in.' Rick thought, after his encounter with Lady Kaori, he knew very well that she'd try something during the exams, but he certainly didn't expect to be her opponent officially.

"I see." Lady Kaori muttered, cloaking her right hand with a dark aura as she pulled out the arrow from her shoulder, squeezing it tightly as it disintegrated into thin air.

"You disgusting wench, first you disgrace me in front of my people, then you have the nerves to infect me with your inferior power."

The dark aura surrounded her right hand and assumed the shape of a sharp claw.

"There it is!"

"It's Lady Kaori's technique she uses to slay beasts and clear dungeons instantly!"

"Dark Shadow Claw."

It was then, Rick immediately realized the difference in power between him and Lady Kaori.

"You'll pay dearly for your sins street rat, let me show you the difference, between the power of a mere commoner and that of a noble. Let me show the power of an AA-ranked caster!"

She dashed forward at him, aiming her claws directly at his chest. Recognizing the danger in those claws, he placed his hands on the ground, utilizing one of his Spirit Techniques, [Elusive Dome].

A barrier created directly from the ring below encased him instantly, however the high concentration of Spiritual Energy in the [Dark Shadow Claw] penetrated the barrier and tore it to shreds in an instant. ƒree𝑤ebnσvel.com

Alarmed, he attempted the [Piercing Arrows] once again, however before he could channel her Spiritual Energy, the [Dark Shadow Claw] of Lady Kaori penetrated his stomach.

The whole crowd was left astonished, even Selena didn't expect this to happen.

"Stop!" The principal exclaimed in an attempt to stop the match.

"Rick!" Mason exclaimed, standing to his feet.

With a guttural groan, Rick spat blood as Lady Kaori held him suspended in the air.

The arena fell into a tense silence, above, the holographic board flickered, displaying the names of the next combatants, but all eyes remained fixed on the unfolding spectacle below.
