Chapter 12: 201: The Maniac’s Laughter

Haru chose to train in different wings of the mansion, discreetly exploring every corner to map out the exact location of Isabela’s room. That way, he could anticipate the imminent attack as best as possible, positioning himself as the perfect savior.

On that day, 201, of his exhausting routine, Haru had just finished training with Isabela early. They had drawn up detailed battle plans and advanced a little further in sword techniques. He had warned her of imminent danger, planting the seed of mistrust so that, by saving her, he would gain her utmost and unwavering trust.

Now he was in the stable, but not sitting on the filthy floor. Instead, he sat on the ceiling, upside down, testing his limits. Suddenly, he let go and descended, landing perfectly on the ground.

"Did you see that, Maximus? This time, I lasted longer and used less mana. Enough to save Isabela when the time comes."

Maximus just stared at him...

Haru still couldn’t see his mana bar. But those days without precise numbers taught him something valuable: to measure his mana instinctively. He felt the flow, knew when it was full and when it was approaching emptiness, like a primal instinct awakening.

Stepping out into the cool evening air, Haru sat on the ground with his training sword crossed over his arms, waiting for night to fall. His thoughts wandered to Cedrick’s blows. He didn’t know if he was leveling up, the system didn’t confirm it, but he felt the progress. He was giving it his all, getting stronger every day. And while he waited, he trained mentally, simulating fierce combat against his invisible targets, sharpening his mind like a blade...

Haru opened his eyes. "Now!"

He thought, getting up and running fast... He went to the wing where clothes were hung out to dry. It was dark because night had fallen, but he had been there enough times to know where to step and go so as not to attract the attention of the guards who were patrolling...

Haru took an explosive leap, stepping on the wall with his feet close together. He ran vertically, gaining speed, and burst into Isabela’s room, shattering the glass window into sparkling fragments.

There was Cedrick, with Isabela unconscious over his shoulders, about to flee.

"This time you won’t escape..." thought Haru, throwing his sword with lethal precision, aiming for Cedrick’s head. The enemy leaned his body at the last moment, dodging by a hair’s breadth.

"You madman! What if you missed and hit Isabela?!" said Cedrick.

Haru smiled inwardly. He had done this many times before; failure was not an option.

Cedrick turned and ran down the hallway.

Haru didn’t even waste time opening drawers. He went straight to the laundry basket in the dark corner of the room, reaching in with confidence. "One, two, three, four panties..." He stuffed three into his pocket and held the fourth firmly, walking out into the hallway. Cedrick had already broken the window at the end and disappeared into the night.

"Unwashed panties... because they still hold Isabela’s vital essence. Fresh DNA, undiluted by water, perfect for quick and remote collection," thought Haru, feeling an electric tingling sensation run up his right arm, wrapped in bandages. 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮

The flow of energy ran through his entire body, like a river of awakening lava. He dashed, leaving flaming footprints on the floor... woosh!... and jumped through the broken window.

Cedrick’s henchman, hidden in the outer corner of the mansion, barely had time to react. Haru spun in the air, turning to face him, and clenched his right hand, which was holding the panties tightly.

"It’s impossible that in 201 days, I haven’t mastered ignition properly. I trained and used it every day before I ’died’. Mana is like a wild river flow, and creating fire is guiding it like a master taming turbulent waters."

Ignition: Fire Cannon!

Haru opened his hand, and a colossal ball of flames burst forth, consuming Isabela’s panties in an instant. The flaming sphere flew like a meteor, hitting the henchman squarely. The devastating explosion pulverized the man and part of the mansion wall, echoing like thunder and alerting all the guards around.

Cedrick, at a safe distance, paused for a moment, turning toward the flaming chaos. His eyes widened as he recognized the figure at the center of the inferno. "That... is the slave?!"

From above Haru came falling like a flaming trail, the other figure, Cedrick’s allied wizard, interposed himself in front, raising a glowing green barrier. But a beam of wild fire passed through, ignoring the defense. Haru, with his hands outstretched, went straight for Cedrick, who jumped aside at the last second.

Haru continued to rush forward, colliding with a nearby tree because he didn’t know how to stop his momentum properly. The tree fell from the impact. Smoke from the extinguished fire filled the air.

"Hehehehe..." Haru laughed as he got up, shoving his hands in his pockets and holding the second and third panties, one in each fist, like talismans.

Cedrick, irritated, turned to the wizard: "Take care of him! I’m leaving with the girl." He reached into his pocket, searching for the teleportation crystal... but nothing.

The wizard also fumbled through his own pockets, his eyes widening. "What!?"

Haru opened his right hand, revealing the two glowing crystals in his palm. "Are you looking for these?" he sneered with a sadistic smile. The stones began to crackle, and flames engulfed his hand, burning the crystals to ashes. "Scared, huh?"

"He used the momentum from his previous attack to propel himself... and, in the midst of the chaos, he brushed past us, ripping our pockets and stealing the crystals without us noticing. That slave... he’s annoying, but smart!"

Cedrick left Isabela against a nearby tree. He drew his sword.

The wizard beside him opened the ancient grimoire, the pages turning by themselves as magical runes began to glow.

Haru began to laugh like a maniac, his wild eyes reflecting the residual flames. "You... have no idea how much I died here! Hahahahaha!"

With an explosive dash, he lunged forward, his clenched fist aimed directly at the wizard’s face.
