Hated By The Alpha-Chapter 149: Visiting home
"No, no, he’s not my husband, he’s just a-"
"Hello, Cupcake, denying me in front of another man?" Leon walked over to Audrey and kissed her cheek, smirking at her.
Audrey subtly shook her head at him; this wasn’t the time for their pretense.
She used to be grateful for his act when he helped her ward off unwanted men, but she didn’t need the act right now, not with her Lake.
Audrey manages to give him an awkward smile, feeling Lake’s penetrative gaze on her as Leon has his arm over their shoulder.
"I’m sorry, Leon, can we have our meeting later, I need to take Mikhail back home and-"
"Easy, I’ll tag along," Leon replied with a shrug.
Lake was standing by the side, observing Audrey and the man; he recognized the man from the pictures of Audrey on the Internet; he was almost present in all her pictures; what was their relationship?
A frown was on his face, he didn’t know why he seemed uncomfortable with their relationship.
"Oh, alright," Audrey agreed, not because she really wanted Leon to visit her house, but because she just wanted him to get away from Lake’s penetrative eyes.
Green suddenly appeared and walked toward Audrey. "Boss, the hotel rooms are ready," She informed.
Audrey sighed in relief.
Finally, Lake would stop giving her those tingling stares.
She cleared her throat and turned to Lake with a smile. "Mr. Aloha, I’m sorry for any inconvenience, I’ve booked you-"
"I’ve got it, Audrey; I can take him there; just take the kid home," Leon came and stood between them.
Lake immediately decided that he didn’t like Leon.
"Hi, sir, I’ll be taking you to your hotel," Leon offered Lake a handshake.
Lake coldly stared at Leon’s hand and ignored it.
He walked over to Audrey and said, "I changed my mind." He was acting on Regal’s instruction.
He didn’t know why his wolf suddenly told him to become Audrey’s business partner.
But whatever the reason was, he felt more at ease with the choice.
Audrey furrowed her brows and stepped away from Lake. She hoped he wasn’t trying to do what she was thinking about.
"Um, what you mean, Mr. Aloha?" She questioned, grabbing Mikhail’s hand as she tried to step away from him.
Lake raised a brow at her then looked back at Leon. If that man was able to become her business partner, then he didn’t see why he couldn’t. Even though he couldn’t find any logic in his reasoning, he just wanted to find a reason to be closer to her; maybe he might even end up discovering why she decided to copy him and why she used his name for her company.
"The business Baker wanted to propose to you, I want to talk about it," He said seriously.
Audrey gaped at him. He couldn’t be serious. Why was he suddenly offering to do business with her? Even if she wanted to, it was Baker she had thought she’d be referred to, and not him, never him!
Accepting his offer would mean having to see him more often and that was just so risky. What if he remembered?
"Ah, you... I’ll contact Baker for that later; why not just go back and rest in the hotel for now? Then later, Baker will fill you in about whatever we discussed?" She smiled up at him.
Lake frowned. She was trying to keep him away.
He looked over at Leon again, seeing him interacting with Mikhail.
He could almost swear he heard his wolf whimper at the sight, and his wolf never whimpered. He saw how Leon bent to Mikhail’s level whispering something to him and making the boy laugh loudly. That sight greatly bothered him.
"Is this how you do business? You fling off people who might become your potential customers?" He walked toward her, cornering her to the wall, but before her back met the wall, Mikhail saw the man looking at his mother with mean eyes and quickly ran over to them, raising hands between them.
"Stay away from my mother!" He warned Lake, narrowing his eyes at him.
Lake paused, looking down at the little boy; again, he felt that there was something he was missing to piece together as he stared at the boy’s face.
"Mikhail, no, don’t be rude, he’s not a stranger, he’s mummy’s business partner," Audrey gently held her son’s arm and drew him to her side.
She felt bad seeing Lake look at the boy with a semblance of confusion. She believed he might be having multiple emotions and feelings running through his mind and body as he stared at the Kid, and she wanted nothing but to let him know that the kid was his, but that would be selfish on her end; she could not hurt him just because she wanted a complete family.
"Is that true? Are you mummy’s business partner?" Mikhail asked Lake suspiciously.
Lake blinked, feeling his wolf getting softer just because the kid spoke to him. "Yes, you’re Mikhail?" He questioned.
Mikhail nodded, "Yes, what’s your name?"
Lake felt a small smile curving around his lips, "Lake, nice meeting you, Mikhail," He offered the boy a handshake.
Mikhail gingerly shook his hand, this time smiling at him.
"Okay, Lake, you’re no longer a stranger, you’re now mummy’s friend, just like Papa over there," Mikhail pointed at Leon.
Audrey cursed silently, why was her son trying to create a huge problem for her? She immediately felt Lake’s mood change, his Alpha aura pushing through and making Leon uncomfortable.
Leon was staring at Lake, he knew the guy didn’t like him, and he didn’t like him either, and he felt like Audrey wasn’t in a rush to push this one away, and he wondered why it was so.
"Yes, Mikhail, can I be your friend too?" Lake asked scooting down to face Mikhail.
Audrey’s heart melted at the father and son’s interaction; she really wished things had ended differently with Lake; she would have been together with him, and their son would have seen such a good father he had.
Mikhail nodded without wasting time, "Yes, I can finally have a handsome friend!" Mikhail raised his hand, asking Lake for a high-five.
The moment Lake high-fived Mikhail was the same time Baker was walking up the stairs with a file in his hand. He froze, seeing the stone-cold Alpha gently chatting with a kid.
For the four years, he’s known Lake, he’s never seen him gentle with anyone, not a kid, and even his fiancée.
"Alpha," Baker called cautiously behind Lake.
Lake turned to look at Baker, but he was strangely no longer in the mood for business, he wanted to spend time with his new friend, Mikhail.
"What is it, Baker?" He questioned, raising his brows.
"Um, it’s just the file you asked me to fetch from the car-’
"Take it back; I’m busy," He replied and turned back to Mikhail, shocking everyone as he lowered himself again in front of the boy and continued chatting with him.
Audrey almost let her tears fall, she looked over at Green and saw her looking at her with concern.
She gave her a reassuring smile, then walked forward and placed a hand on her son’s shoulder.
"Come on, Mikhail, it’s time to go home," She whispered to him.
"Great then, I can bring my new friend home and show him to granny; she always asks me to make friends, and today I want to show her that I did what she asked," Mikhail surprised everyone with his reply.
He eagerly turned to Lake and asked innocently, "Do you want to come over to my house?" He blinked cutely at him.
Lake could never see himself ever saying no to this kid, he nodded with a grin, "Sure, Mikhail, lead the way," He responded, sending Leon a smirk.
Audrey sighed, "Mr. Aloha, you don’t have to; he’s just a kid, and this is how they behave, I’m sure you had other things you wanted to do with your time, right?" Audrey was internally panicking, this whole incident was moving in the wrong direction.
She was still trying to find a way to refuse his business proposal, but her son went ahead and invited him to their home, making all her effort useless; how was she going to keep her distance if he came into her house? What would her mother think?
"I have nothing to do, Ms. Audrey; I’m sure you knew that, or is there a problem for a business partner to visit your home?" He asked, looking at Leon, then back at Audrey.
Audrey immediately understood that he was talking about Leon, who was a business partner, yet he visited her home.
"Ah, no, not at all. Let’s go then," She smiled.
"Yay!" Mikhail rejoiced, dragging Lake away toward the elevator.
Green immediately followed behind, not trusting the boy to behave with Lake.
Audrey looked apologetically at Leon, "I’m sorry, Leon, can we reschedule the whole meeting?" She asked.
Leon walked toward her and held her hand, "It’s okay, let’s go, I want to visit granny too," He smiled, leading her to another elevator.
Audrey wishes she could just disappear and escape this awkward situation that she is about to face.
May the moon goddess guide her...
